I’ve been away from WoW for a while and was just wondering if it’s a popular app, or if most people tend to avoid it. I’d install the apps themselves manually, but i’m unsure of how to update them later on, without losing my settings.
What do you think, is it worth the convenience to get the app, or does it have down-sides?

No.
I still use wowup.
If I have to grab something from curseforge, I do it manually.

What’s the reason, do you consider the overwolf app as malware? That’s why i’ve been having misgivings too, i don’t know if it’s a good program or not. I’ll check out wowup, i didn’t know of it, thank you.
Not the app itself. It however offers no security for the ads it serves, which could very well mean bad stuff ends up on your computer. I’ve been blocking ads, javascript and so on for a looong time by now, ever since I got a keylogger from an ad on wowhead.

No, I just update stuff manually. I’m using 10 addons max so it’s not too bad.

Zuuma, when it comes to manually updating an addon like Weakauras, where you may have spent quite a lot of time customising it, how do you do it, just super-impose the new addon folder over the old one? Would that do it whilst keeping your settings?
The settings are saved in the WTF folder, not the addons folder. Even if you delete the addon, you will retain the settings for it unless you delete them from the WTF folder.

Thanks guys, i don’t use many addons either, i think it’s 4 max, so i’ll just install the mods manually. i appreciate the input and help.

I use the Curseforge Alpha version app that is just standalone, no overwolf required.
Works well.

Yes, I do. It’s spyware and it injects itself into WoW’s memory space as well. It seems like Blizzard have managed not to make it go off at this interaction, just as it doesn’t with a few others, but all the same I would not install it.
I personally use WoWUp with wago.io now.

This is what I’ve been doing since Twitch stopped doing them. Back in days of yore I used WoW Matrix, not sure it still exists.
Although I’m quite lazy about it and haven’t updated mine in months. I only use a few though and they mostly still work. My GTFO is out of date though and doesn’t warn me about the ZM World Boss nastiness, so I die there quite often.
No, never did and never will do.
I only use WoWup if I can’t install an addon with It I wont install It at all.
Force me If I wanna use DBM…ok time to day goodbye to DBM.
