Do you pickpocket mobs during leveling?

I was wondering if anyone besides me actually do it as I see lots of rogues who just charge the mobs and shower them with sinister strikes, not even bothering to sneak or anything. I mean it always takes some time to get close to the mob when stealthed, to position yourself properly and stuff (kinda painful when you’re Combat). But it also makes you kinda feel more like actual rogue, not just wannabe fury warrior in leathers hehe. Also it’s kind of fun to pickpocket some hilarious items like empty wallets or weird toys.

Is it actually possible to make some serious cash at 60 by pickpocket farming high level mobs?

I’ve heard that you can earn 40-50g an hour doing it

Yes.

You should turn on auto-loot and bake pickpocket into your openers with macros as well, like
#showtooltip Cheap Shot
/cast Pick Pocket
/cast Cheap Shot

I generally don’t Pickpocket the thing I’m going to kill, due to chance it will resist (5% I believe, more if it’s higher level) and pull me out of stealth, then my chance to Ambush is gone.

But, I have been soloing dungeons for the sole purpose of pickpocket, to earn gold. Stockades is a good one for 24 - 30, you can do the whole thing in 10 minutes, then rinse and repeat. Then next up is Scarlet Monastery.

This.

My Cheap Shot / Garrote are set up with this. It definitely helps with the gold situation and gives you more lockboxes to level lockpicking.

Yep, but only because it’s fun. I haven’t worked out if it’s worth it. It’s also I’ve heard of that cheap shot / pick pocket macro. Might have to try that.

I’ve just recently started using the pick pocket ability in Classic, along with a macro. I’d personally say that it’s a nice “side” pay.

What kind of question is that?

If you’re not doing it, then you’re a friggin idiot.

I use the pickpocket macro too but most of the time i dont get loot.
Im thinking its because it happens to fast for the autoloot?
Anyone have this problem?

Has anybody actually tried Pick Pocketing without a macro? It says quite clearly that you cannot be moving whilst performing this action. Ergo, the macro will not work if you are also moving.

If you pause for a moment before pressing the macro, it will work every time.

You may also need to put a /stop casting after the /cast pick pocket - if you have a bad connection the lag may cause it to fail as the next ability can clip over it.

I doubt that. Private servers had more loot from pickpocketing compared to classic, I think people are using those numbers. But it would be nice if you could prove me wrong, then I would know what to farm!

Was BRD farm.

Could be right but from my experience private servers made getting gold way more difficult than it is in Classic

I looooove sneaking around pickpocket orcs, kobolds etc.

I always pickpocket before opening on mobs. You can also pickpocket mobs when they’re in combat, so before you go ham on your tank’s targets, pickpocket them all and give the tank a few seconds to build threat. Laugh all the way to the bank and enjoy your lockbox skillups.

I often have to kill the mob then loot it twice. Once for normal loot and again for pickpocket loot. It only happens when there is no loot to pickpocket and it’s just silver.

I was in a group with a Rogue who was pickpocketing mobs in a dungeon and they looted a box which contained a rare weapon.

Yes, why wouldn’t you? It’s a free stream of money for practically zero effort. You’d be an absolute fool not to.

The highest lockboxes can carry one of two unique epics, I believe.

Heavy lockboxes can have

Teebu’s Blazing Longsword
Alcor’s Sunrazor
Shadowblade

The one below Heavy (Sturdy) can have Gut Ripper

You can find teebu’s in lockboxes? That would be an awesome find

Yes, you can. Quite a low chance, like the other epics. But yes.
