Do you think riot games new MMO will kill WoW?

“Do you think ___ will kill Overwatch?”

In reality, the alternatives don’t kill off the big titles, these big titles are killed off by their own developers ruining them.

Overwatch is a ghost town, not because of an alt title. But due to lack of care for the game from its own developers and said developers saying nothing good will be done to it anymore, that all focus is on Overwatch 2.

WoW… will fall on its own sword too eventually.

yes pls just kill wow and its gonna be my best old memory. but day by day its getting worse.

Wow will die sooner or later. Like any product which reaches the end of its lifespan. Not sure why some are so obsessed about it? It will come sooner or later.
Death is a natural part of the circle. I know I will die someday as well. Yet I am not spending my every day thinking on when and how its going to happen…

it won’t die till electricity dies tbh. there are plenty of carbon copies of wow that, someone will make a private server of it. eventually it will reside in some larger gaming library (like steam) or something

It will die eventually even if its being kept “artifcially alive” by some old timers.
Sure there are old communities who are still fans of very old games and plays them together but its pretty much a closed community. Very rarely new peps join in. So unless somebody is planning to host a private TBC server in his 70-80s in his basement or something…then yeah. Wow will eventually fade out…

In our lifetimes it probably won’t, it’s always going to exist till some kind of mass online extinction happens. Because you are talking about data/memory here, and data doesn’t really have an expiry date like humans.

Indeed the data wont expire on its own but it needs a “vessel” so to speak. HDD, SDD,Flash…whatever you get the point. And somebody actually needs to maintain it.
So yeah. I can still consider WoW to be dead if its files are located in some old HDD which has been left to gather dust at some attic cause the owner was too lazy to properly dispose it.

WoW retail does not need a killer, it is already a frog in the slowing boiling pot for years. Only thing is how much gas Blizzard wants to add to it.

But well, they can just keep releasing “classic” expansions until certain point, then tell us “WoD resurrected/reimagined” is happening.

you do know warcraft 3 happened and was very big back in the days, not even sure how much bigger lols fanbase is compared to warcraft 3 fanbase back in the day.
and pretty sure amoung diablo, warcraft, overwatch, heros of the storm, starcraft and hearthstone, compared to riot games lol and valorant, blizzard come out with the bigger playerbase, but that is not really important as you could have 6billion playerbase and then make an mmo but if your playerbase dont care about mmo’s at all then you are going to have a rough time getting numbers.

but i love the current philosophie, know not everyone likes it but some do.
legion and bfa was a nightmare for the gear philosophie and should never had gear rain from the sky.

you know you can stop playing, it is an option.

Blizzard has been ripping WoW to pieces expansion after expansion. Started around MoP when they hired clueless idiots to make WoD.

Ashes of Creation is looking fantastic - still a way off yet though.

I am but i am not really sure about other people  .

If it happens I owe you 100 euros but i know it won’t happen so i don’t need to owe you xD.

Hmm Diablo Mmorpg could by interesting.

Yes.

I mean, it’s fair to say that by this point in time, the core WoW playerbase is so attached to the game and their characters that the notion of quitting isn’t really on the table. People can take breaks and play other games, but eventually they’ll bounce back to WoW.

I think lots of WoW players will check out Diablo II. Then many will go back to WoW. Some won’t.
And to a lesser degree it’ll be the same for Diablo Immortal.
And to a higher degree it it’ll be the same for Diablo IV.

But most of those ingrained WoW players will always gravitate back to WoW.

The only thing that will kill WoW is WoW itself.

Or perhaps… Dream haven in 5-10 years if they succeed.

Blizzard drowe over 10 million players away because they pruned classes, destoryed professions and ruined server communities and introduced time gated player power grinds and told us we dont like flying.

Game has never recovered from it and never will. Who is to blame? Players who wanted this? No. Blizzard who gave in.

And just for the record. Final Fantasy and Guildwars 2 have 20 million players right now. WoW has less than 2 million. And that is a fact. Why do they have such high numbers? BECAUSE CLASSES FEEL AMAZING TO PLAY.

Final Fantasy is looking more tempting as Shadowlands continues to meander. I played GW2 before its first expansion (before it made the base game free to play), but I didn’t like how in-game purchase obsessed it was.

It wont, only game that hard perspective in being a good alternative was Warhammer Online.

Anyway, I’d like other mmo’s to succeed just to give them competition and perhaps make this greedy company listen to their community more often.

Probably not.

I hope they turn out to be a strong competitor, just because Blizzard has been way too comfortable lately and they need to step up their game.

I’m interested and I’ll check for updates on this game but I seriously doubt it will be better than WoW.
