So, I was doing the DK questline in the wrath classic (for the retail mount) and I was surprised to see my character actually speaking! I wasn’t sure if it’s really my char. And then I checked the chat, and yes, it was my character. I am a player since cata, and I’ve never seen my char talking (except for 1 legion quest when you play as the prince and rescue your char).
So, what is your opinion? We can say that my character is an important dude in this world. Saved Azeroth many times, was the commander in draenor, hold some legendary weapons, fought unimaginably strong enemies. Major characters talked to us countless times. Most of them know us by our names and faces.
On the other hand, like Gabe Newell said, “Silent heroes help players to associate the character with ourselves.”
Which one do you prefer?

Just make our characters say “Zug zug” whenever they say something in /s in the game.
Ever since I tried Fallout 4, I’d be happy for it. Your toon has their own personalized voicelines for every occasion.
Hum
If it’s the correct voiceover for each race then it’d be nice. Ideally the same voice actors, it carries some risk.

“Yo, I’ll tell you what I want, what I really, really want”
And that is the ability to use your own mic and whatever you say, everyone in your vicinity will hear.
MIND BLOWN? I KNOW!
Realistically this wouldn’t work because, troll fiesta.
But perhaps on RP servers?

I would love full voice over for my character. It is probably way too expensive.
I really wouldn’t want a voice-over. Just imagine if you really disliked the voice … you’d never see your character the same way again.

In GW2 (so far) the clear, strong voice of my female Norn character is nice to hear. Their cut scenes position characters to the side to reduce voice animation (I think).
Wows frontal speech animation of human npcs seems exaggerated and looks a bit like they are chewing something tough. Especially when the animation overruns the sound !
In GW2, there was a lot of use of the title ‘Slayer’ at the start, (Killed an Ice Wyrm, never heard the last of it…)
It made my char sound like a mass murderer, and started to grate a bit. The use seems to have faded a bit more in later levels and new areas (I hope!).
Wows Maw-Walker title got pretty annoying and dated over time in my view.
They tried to vary it using different npc voices and accents (quite liked Dredgers accents).
I began to hate the Maw-walker do this, do that, get killed etc. But it is impracticable to use your characters name I think.
Maybe for rogues belonging to class based factions there could be a list of undercover names they choose from ?
Or you can choose a title from a list to vary it a bit ?
TLDR:
Yes if the voice is clear :
-
Accents can be turned off
-
Voice pitch slider up or down.
-
Better voice animation
-
More title choice instead of Maw-Walker forever…

It’s not something I’m excited for myself. Spoken dialogue exchanges in other games can get very tedious very quickly.
With so many races in this game, having different voice actors for male and female too. I don’t see that ever happening.
In that case, would be nice to be able to choose the voice type and pitch, like in SIMS.
Well, you can say you like to get your feet wet.
I saw this in Tower of Fantasy. And I think voice acting is not that expensive. But I am assuming.
Imagine you have been playing your orc DK for 13 years, and you expect the voice be deep and scary, but then he goes with a chirpy childish sound. That would be devastating.
If you think, sometimes we hear our character’s voices, like warrior’s rallying cry.
Yeah, the thing is that not everyone thinks that not-voiced character is bad. Many people think quite the opposite.
I will be reported and banned for this, but who cares - There’s gonna be voice type 1 and voice type 2 if that happens xd.
the fact my character does not talk and just stares intently at the person in question…
i find it very fitting as that is very much how i approach most people in real life too.
And if you think, the other NPCs always have some pauses while speaking to us. As if they are expecting an answer from us? Could it be that our characters are terrible at socializing and are very awkward?
could very well be this !
have you ever tried this in real life?
next time someone talks to you just stare at them dead in the eyes without saying anything…
see who gets nervous first
could be why i dont have very many friends lol…
