I’ve made numerous bug reports on this in the last month, but it didn’t get through apparently. Has this been happening to anyone else? Standing directly behind your target (let it be a boss, an elite mob or even a player), and if they are not CCd, they can parry and dodge while damaging them from behind? How does that work? Standing behind a target is supposed to eliminate this issue.
For as long as I’ve played the game (which was WotLK, not vanilla), mobs have always been able to dodge (but not parry) attacks from behind.
Players can only dodge attacks if they are facing their opponent, however a mob can dodge attacks that are from behind.

Also - I would guess that due to melee Leeway, this might allow you to dodge/parry from behind, if you are moving.
I see, however, I’m still getting parries. The explanation might be
Which does sort of makes sense. I’ll have to experiment more with this.
In my (very subjective) experience, I seem to get parried from behind when I’m very close to the mob, or at least I don’t remember ever getting parried when standing far away.
It probably have to do with the hit box mechanics. When I am tanking Lashers in Dire Maul East they can hit me in the back even when I have my back against the wall. So if you are to close to middle of the hitbox (not the visual character but the circle around it) the attack counts as being from the front (mobs can dodge from behind but only parry from front).
Screenshot it?
Never imagined I will see Blizzard forums discuss how to do it from behind.
You should see the threads about Onyxia’s epic head then!
I only get hits or misses when attacking from behind
Mobs dodge attacks from behind, if you are seeing parries it is because server side it believes you are in front of the mob. So move back a little. The mob and players position on client vs. server may be slightly out of sync, so although you see yourself as 1 meter behind the mob, the server thinks you are 0.5 a meter in front of the mob.
There have been times where to attack a severely out of sync mob you might have to be stood 25 yards away from where your client thinks it is, with it right clicked. So I think it is fairly common for them to be a few yards out when repositioned.
So if you see a parry, walk backwards a bit.
Unless you really are in front!
… Rogues do it from behind …

Paladins do it with protection.
Literally what I heard in my head when reading the previous post…
With a little drop of poison…
