Free market baby.
If someone can make the same good for lower price and still profit…its great for consumers…just get over it and sell for the current market price

Why are you complaining? You are a big boy auction house player! Buy it all and relist at your preferred price. Those people just gave you 20g+ for a service of re-selling their item. You can’t be a capitalist and a whinging petty burgeois at the same time my boi.
I have my auctionator set to undercut at 1c 12h auction and my items still sell 80-90% of the time, and I never held anything for longer than a week.
I personally sometimes even undercut more than 20g on a item sold for about 200g.
I just want the golds faster. Also when you undercut buy just a little, it often didnt sell for days while refreshing the same item every 24h.
I undercut by loads quite often……but I also realise it’s just pixels and not real money
It works like this: Nobody will buy that it’s too expensive, but i want a quick sell so i will put it so low that noone wants to undercut me!
I deliberately buy the one for one copper more just to mess with these people.
I don’t think I have ever put something on the AH for 1 copper less than someone else, unless it was on for 5 copper.
It thought the reason we had so much bots and gold seller is because the pixels are worth a lot of real money as well?
I undercut for these reasons:
People complain about inflation and prices going up, but then same people are whining about undercutting. Logic, none.
I would like to say something about those peoples noses who hoard gold and calculate pennies, but it might be offensive.
Oh I sometimes do this, buy the highest of the chain of 1c undercuts, where the jump up to next is at least a couple of gold. But often I just forget and click the top one in auctionator
They either have previous AH data that recommends a price, or they think they can quickly get sales by putting them on at a much lower price.
The 69 guy still had his 5 auctions up this morning and others have undercut to 63g now.
This ”I’ll undercut so it sells fast” argument just falls flat on it’s face.
because people are too dumb to appreciate the benefits of a free market.
Instead of undercutting by a few coppers to keep the high prices up, they undercut by like 10%-20% lmao.
The positive thing is when you already have a lot of gold to take advantage of these undercutters.
It’s perfectly simple.
The chronic undercutters exist to make me a load of gold. They’re my personal loot boxes, ripe for exploitation by people who play the auction house.
You’d not believe me if I told you how much gold I’ve made in the past from these chronic undercutters. It’s paid for epic flying mounds on more than a few alts.
So I certainly don’t want them to stop doing what they are doing. I love them, they’re great!
If you’re a chronic undercutter who sells items for a fraction of their median server value then please don’t stop, I love you.
Of course the real reason they do this is because they can’t be bothered to wait. They’re lazy, they demand instant gratification, instant sales. It’s the same mindset that lead to retail. Selling high and making a decent profit requires knowledge of the server economy, patience and a little work. Something you won’t get from your AH addons that automate most of the work.
The AH is an almost perfect example of ‘pure capitalism’ in action, free from the corruption and entrenched bureaucracy that usually goes with the real thing. It creates a true free market economy where items are truly worth precisely what people are willing to pay. If you sell an item that usually sells for 50g for 10g then you’re basically a fool who is not only throwing money down the toilet, but also crashing the economy.
But just as in real economies, there are plenty of sharks out there who can make a killing through ‘disaster capitalism’.
Just how some people think unfortunately.
Then whats the issue ? Everyone sold their stuff and got money from it …
you can’t really consider the WoW economy alongside RL economy. RL economy has scarce and/or finite resources. WoW economy is quite the opposite.
I could spend weeks farming something normally worth 50g and put up weeks of farming for 15g dropping the price for everyone and noone would buy them all. I’m still making some gold regardless of how little it may be. Is it a douche move? Possibly. Have I lost out? No…because it’s not real money, It won’t pay my mortgage or feed my family.
I normally consider
In this case, there might be fierce competition and the person trying to sell possibly didn’t succeed, so decided to dump the item. And/or, we don’t see the rest of the data.
It also takes time to manage auctions, especially since the throttling, so I’m not going to sit on a myriad of items, waiting to try and sell them. If it’s day 3, it goes heavy undercut. Day 4, I make a mental note and vendor it (or gift to party members, like my enchant scrolls).
I tried to enter the scribe & scroll market back in 2009 / 2010 casually, ended up with so many items unsold, I never tried the AH game again. Taught me to not try too hard. Mind you, there is a listing fee that adds up quickly. People are supposed to undercut.
Never said there was an issue. I said that I love the undercutters, that’s hardly an issue, unless you count it as a positive issue.
It was never meant to be a perfect analogy, but I still maintain it’s an example of ‘pure capitalism’, which is a thing that does not exist in the real world, so is a moot point really.
But the WoW economy also has scarce resources. Rare mats are a textbook example scarce resources. There are never any true ‘finite’ resources even in real economies, because even if those goods or services are truly ‘finite’ the entire economic model functions on the principles of unlimited growth - thus nothing can be considered ‘finite’.
In any case you keep on selling your mats dirt cheap. There will be plenty of hungry sharks out there eager to feed, and grow fat on your actions.
I have friend who wrote doctorate thesis (if thats the correct word for it in english) about inflation/demand/supply and some other terms I cant even spell correctly …
We spent over half a year farming, spamming AH with undercut stuff, buying everything from AH at once, flooding it with super rare and expensive items for super low prices …
And it does in fact kinda work like in real life xD … its like that plague being used as a real life pandemic model
