Does it benefit me at all to go 'At War' with a fraction?

just wondered, do I get anything out of it? If not, whats the point?

well you can show them who is boss… other than that you’ll have to wait for the honor point system to actually gain an actual benefit.

for now the reason people kill eachother is to establish who is in control of the current zone that the battle takes place in.

I never bothered with rep in 2006, but as far as I remember hearing, attacking some factions increases your rep with other factions, possibly enough to open up the possibility of rewards.

If you tick ‘At War’ you can attack members of said Faction, which allows you to (in some cases) Loot them and drives your Reputation down, all the way down to Hatred if you are adamant about it.

Then, if you have spend a lot of time and energy to become Hated with (for example) Cenarion Circle and did so as a Druid, come Legion you can whine on the Fora they don’t just hand over their Artifact Questline.

Not only will Blizz immediately change the game for you, but even aplogize profusely and call it a ‘hotfix’ (much like the wordplay between ‘exploit’ and ‘creative use of game-mechanics’, at the end of the day it is, like MassivelyOp noted a few days ago, just a crapshoot of their mood and the parties involved).

In other words, you can get to become (in)famous!

Seriously though: RP reasons.

While there are a few instances where getting Hated by one Faction opens up Quests (Bloodsail Buccaneers being the prime example, the Desolace Centaurs-Aldor TBC thing -Sholazar Basin Wrath thing are iirc premediated choices) for the most part they forgot to include this Open World content (Ravenholdt-Syndicate does for the most part nothing for non-Rogues for example, and you can’t even join The Syndicate) despite being in the game.

As a side-note: lacunes like this is what they IMO should focus any Classic+ Development on, what is the point of having all these various Factions if you can’t ‘really’ interact with them?

I’d go to war if it was two thirds. I hate that fraction.

Pick your fight correctly, always go for 5 levels and lower, avoid same level or higher and you would do good.

Am currently ganking low level players in STV and am level 49, but once i see a level 50+, am out of that area.

of course the gnome advocates for being a cheapskate.
this is why horde ganks you in STV to the point where you have to call for high levels (which is the challenge he wants) and prove to you who the boss really is… because once you call a high level in to help you, you’ve already admitted defeat.

Well…most PvP Servers are severly overpopulated with Hordies so there is some sense in going ‘the Tuskarr Route’ (what? you really think they send those bagged Wolvar kids to a beach resort or something?) as Alliance (cull them while they’re young) but yeah, unlike Blizzard - who love it in their ‘black litlle hearts’ (to quote the Blues) - ganking lower levels is rather low behaviour.

For the most part, no. All you’ll do is make NPCs hostile to you and lock yourself out of various faction benefits (until you grind the rep back up again), without getting anything in return. The one exception is going to war with Booty Bay to gain Bloodsail Buccaneers rep. It’s still gonna hinder you more than it helps, but you gain some fairly cool cosmetic rewards at least.
