Does your language translate zone & character names?

In French, most zones, cities and character names (such as Hellscream or Windrunner) are translated.
I wonder if that’s the case for other languages as well.

What’s Stormwind in German, in Spanish, or in Polish?

I’m offended that there’s no Gaelic language!

My native language is not available in WoW, and I’m fine with that. I prefer english anyway because it helps me improve my language skills :slightly_smiling_face:

Which language is that?

wow doesnt offer the ape language, so no.

Isn’t our server mostly Dutch populated? :rofl: What is an Italian doing here? :stuck_out_tongue:

WoW is not available in my language.

i play in english, the names translated in my language sound very stupid.

Every French translation has “Hurl” in it, even when it’s not necessary.
Hellscream = Hurlenfer.
Stormage = Hurlorage.
Stormwind = Hurlevent.

They weren’t very inspired.

Hm, my native language is of slavic origin. Most of the names are translated quite word by word, some are adapted.

For example if you translate Stormwind to my language eng-ua-eng it becomes The City of the Storm, sound like an old slav-city name. Redridge mountains rather sound like Red Mountains shire. Locations names do sound a lot fantasy-like, characters tho sound cringy.

Also, some sounds get rephrased as we don’t have them in the language. Castle Nathria becomes Castle Nuffria so to say. Denathrius becomes Denatriy (Like Dmitriy, lol).

I’ve been playing in an english guild on this server for almost 7 years now, before I was on italian server for a couple of months but I left because there were only super casual or super elitist guilds

Shame we’re enemy then :stuck_out_tongue:

Sturmwind. and yes, almost everything is translated in german which, if having played the english version, sounds very long, clunky or awkward and sometimes downright funny. :smile:

shadowlands - Schattenlande
the maw - Der Schlund
covenants - Pakte
jailer - Kerkermeister

first names are usually kept like they are in the english version though.

Sounds cool, ngl.

But Nufria sounds super weird, it should’ve been just Nutria.

I know right! It sounds not even weird, it’s silly! It’s like toddler’s mumbling
