Don't merge realms of different languages!

Oh dear, probably shouldn’t ask them what they think of me. Best to not know :stuck_out_tongue:

Was that thread about Pink?

The Burning Legion merge was really a death blow to Al’Akir. I’ve been there since 2007, but now it’s time to change server. And no, I’m not paying a dime to Blizzard for migrating.

Fresh start elsewhere.

Our guild was struggling with having enough members as is, and now this merge made recruitment/joining another guild impossible. The server would have needed a merge since WoD, so this was coming like 5 years too late already.

2/10 for effort, 0/10 for execution Blizzard.

We should be alright with a Portuguese and English shared realm, after all, they are the countries with the longest alliance in the entire world, since 1386 and never broken…:stuck_out_tongue:

And the alliance with Britain was broken with Denmark due to our king supporting Napoleon, whereupon they destroyed our entire navy and caused the government to default on its debt.

Not to mention we pillaged their country so hard there’s still an area of the country called The Danelaw to this day.

Doesn’t matter at all whatsoever.

Very few people in here have said Portuguese people are bad people, and I’m certainly not doing that. My interactions have the Portuguese people have been positive other than those who spotted this thread and misinterpreted it as me hating Portuguese people.

Portuguese people have been great in my experience so far, but the issue remains that there are significant language barriers for both of us - especially us.

The Portuguese know this and therefore switch more to English, but this completely subverts the reason they have a Portuguese realm in the first place, which is a real bummer.

As for the realm populations, it still appears to be down on both servers, but not as much as it was before.

@Trelw, you seem far more knowledgable on this stuff - can you expand on what you’re seeing?

Eh? What’s Denmark got to do with it? The Viking invasions were well done and dusted by 1386, and the Vikings had been given a spanking and never came back. The Portuguese most certainly did not support Napoleon, in fact quite -famously- did not. Which country still has an area called the Danelaw? It ain’t England I can assure you of that, did the Danes go to Portugal?

I was talking the Danish alliance with the British.

“And the alliance with Britain was broken with Denmark”

It was a bit poorly worded I’ll admit.

Anyway, none of this has anything to do with anything regarding this server merge. It’s irrelevant.

@Ishayoe: I was extremely busy yesterday, so I did not manage much effective WoW time. I did have a little bit of time to look at certain details and I came to at least one very definitive conclusion. Frostmane alliance side is highly organized compared to many, many other realms. Which is both good and bad. It is good, because it means people are quite bonded, but bad because it means there is very limited number of people even theorhetically to be recruited, especially as it seems that some of the biggest guilds CP has detected so far are not raiders. I am going run more cross checks tonight, specifically during prime time, IF I can as I have certain things that I simply MUST do today as well (mostly school related).

I also found out that certain things are not updating correctly on WCR. It seems probable that I will need to get in touch with some of my contacts in the US and ask whether they can help as I have neither the permissions nor the needed skills to check the site’s backend. This means I need to rely even more on my local data for now.

now is harsh stating emotions?

It’s official now that Adept also moves away from Frostmane. Not a good looking future for a raid team with that realm merge

That leaves Deus Ex and us remaining.

From what I’ve heard, Deus Ex’s leadership team was excited about the merge, but the membership was divided on the issue.

I think with this, the leadership may reconsider it.

And if they leave, there’s just us - and I don’t think we’ll stay behind in that circumstance.

As Trelw has noticed, Frostmane is “highly organised” - this is because it’s an ancient community that’s been through a lot, but people want to get away. The loose players and the small groups have all left already - there’s really just the big guilds, for whom leaving is very expensive, left.

I’m pretty sure this merge killed Frostmane.

But hey, I guess I’m just a xenophobic homophobic idiot. Ain’t that right, Blizzard?!

I mean, who else but such a person would think being able to understand one another’s languages is important if you want to be a community?

But no. That’s not important. Political differences about LGBT - that’s way more important. No chance of talking that out - unlike people who can’t read one another’s messages - they can talk it out.

Honestly, I’m just so disappointed. It really is just too much now… the stupidity is just through the roof. Garrhhhh >.<

What’s even more sad is that Deus Ex used to be on Al’Akir-Skullcrusher-Xavius and migrated to Frostmane to avoid death.

And then this is what happened to them.

A travesty.

I feel like people are way overplaying the “its an LGBT server” card in this whole ordeal… Yes Proudmoore is known for being just that at least partially, but I feel what shocked people more is just the populations involved in that connection… Proudmoore is my main US server (and the server I have my characters on before moving to Europe). I can say that I think that merger would have been a good thing for the server but alas those cards aren’t in my hand. Regardless though many people were a bit freaked out when they saw the biggest western US alliance server getting merged with a sizeable horde server (even though Hyjal while it has a healthy population it’s certainly not an overcrowded server, and even by population Hyjal only clocks in at #24 on the population list of US servers).

I think it being such a huge server connection fuelled way more anxiety than any social issues among the community. Many people on Proudmoore even keep horde alts on Hyjal and Hyjal horde has a fair share of LGBT guilds as well.

Well, it’s the official reason Blizzard gave.

But merging a giant alliance realm with a giant horde realm is going to leave a really health, balanced, large realm. That’s a good thing!

Oh well, there’s probably stuff about it I don’t know.

What it was to me was a confirmation that they had listened to me and read what I wrote, because they did in their case so why wouldn’t they in mine?

But they thought I was wrong - and maybe even an idiot. They were laughing at my concern.

Well, who’s laughing now?
Nobody. Nobody’s laughing now.

Not up to speed here, what’s LGBT got to do with it? Genuine question.

If you don’t want to mention fair enough, just curious how it’s jumped from accusations of xenophobia to homophobia.

Officially blizzard just said:

While Hyjal does indeed fall into our list of lower population realms, we don’t think it’s so low that it will be detrimental to leave it unconnected at this time.

the Letters “LGBT” come up nowhere in the blizzard post

I don’t disagree.

I just double-checked and you’re right - my bad. I just heard from multiple sources it was the official reason, but maybe people were pulling my leg or reading stuff into it.

So I apologise. I won’t go back and edit it though - too much work, and it’s probably true under-the-hood anyway.

No official explanation was included as to why, but it’s obviously a response to that outcry from players.
