Russians can already play on EU realms, many are already here

well iam japanese and i play on EU :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually Russians have the stupidest restrictions in WoW. You need a Russian client to play in Russian realms and you can’t use a Russian client for non Russian realm.

You can’t even use Latin letters to name characters on Russian realms, only Cyrillic letters.

No other languages in EU have such restrictions.

thats wierd becourse u can type them in game
i can type chainese/japanese on eu servers even same goes russia.

What I’m saying is some people may want to play on English realms because they want to experience a broader community but may still want to play the game on their native language if the client supports it. German, Spanish, French and Italian people can do this but Russians can’t.

and still u do BGs end up fighting agaist russia premades groups in random BGs :stuck_out_tongue:

EU is the only region in wow with client-side language restrictions, I agree its stupid that you cant play in the language of your choosing depending on the situation. Only Russian Clients may be used on Russian realms, while every other EU server blocks Chinese/Korean/Russian clients… It means you cant play in Chinese or Korean at all on EU servers, but it’s not a problem in any of the other 4 wow regions.

The only other region with similar latin-name restrictions is Korean servers where you can’t name characters with special Characters (think ÅÆØÄË etc)… you can do it on Taiwan servers however but those servers have problems displaying those letters and you just end up with question marks in the game chat and even in the default nameplate above your character… it’s quite weird.

As far as I am aware RU can play on EN realms and do.

I think I need to go check up now, or I need more coffee, I was under the impression that RU could play here.

They can but they have to switch the game client to English/German/French/spanish/italian or Portuguese to do so.

Last weeks Connections went through without issues to my knowledge… This week there have been some issues reported though, particularly with people being kicked out of guilds on Forscherliga/Die Nachtwache.

They can if they play on an English client. They can’t use Russian names on English realms either (though I’d say that’s more reasonable).

Ah so you mean in that way, got you.

It’s always funny in pugs with Russians. Russian Hunter can you do x for us please. Thanks. Although I’m frequently referred to as Pala so I guess it’s no different.

Once a realm is connected, you cant really undo it… Even if Blizzard had the tools to do so, it would wreak the economy of the server and split up guilds etc.

we can only see what the future roadmap entails, there is no way the server connection programme is nearing its end as there are still a lot of realms in dire need of connections and honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if Burning Legion goes through an other connection.

well since they ignored us for 8 years before, im just gonna assume they’ll ignore us for another 8

True, it’s still possible they connect them with more, but the thing is, blizzard doesn’t seem to care about unofficial language on a realm, they probably didn’t even check before connecting them, and as far as population goes, I gave a general look, burning legion, even without al’akir, isn’t really in dire need, if you connect that you’ll need to connect 85% of the realms.

Having said that, burning legion has 140 guilds, al’akir 14, if they connect them to a decent sized realm (like aggra was) with 80 guilds, this could change the polish to english ratio from 90-10% to maybe 60-40%, better than nothing, all hypothetical ofc cause likelihood is whatever realm they connect to it won’t have all guilds on a faction.

I wouldn’t say that, ofc there probably is some community mod imput in this but sometimes there aren’t any other choices, last I looked there isn’t another realm out there with a super strong Polish/Portuguese community and some other communities (Finnish/Czech for example) are also concentrated on one server. They cant let this be a reason to exclude servers from being connected. they have shown in the past when there isn’t the population to sustain a certain demographic they will combine demographics, hence Spanish RP servers were eliminated and even the Portuguese server they used to have isn’t recognised as such anymore.

burning legion before the connection had a surprisingly similar population profile to US-Hyjal which Blizzard has stated was on their low population list… It would have been ranked at approx 30th among EU servers with approx 82,000 players (Hyjal is 24th among US servers with 75,000 players). both servers had a 85/15 faction split in favour of horde. Blizzard has also shown willingness to connect far bigger realms than that of burning legion to other servers and that in my opinion is also a good thing.

I feel like wowprogress tracked guilds is a bad statistic to go by in general because it doesn’t actually track server populations, there are many, many guilds in the game that don’t raid. Even with a similar population the wow progress page for a server like Gilneas shows 3x as many guilds, so this statistic doesn’t say much other than the raiding activity of the server (which admittedly it seems like Xavius didn’t have much of even for its size).

Overall I could easy see blizzard knocking out half of the servers throughout the connection programme, I almost think they need to do so… For reference excluding the china region servers, there are 556 realms in all of wow, before they started the recent connections we had 260 server clusters, current count is 236 servers.

To my knowledge china had 191 server clusters before the recent connections started happening but I would need to get this confirmed and its hard to keep track of what’s actually happening in that region.
