After all the uproar about the double dip removal on Nether Precision a couple of weeks back Blizz reverted the change, which was good because it makes the spec more fun to play.
Today Blizzard have announced a removal of double dipping on Burden of Power. Why?
There’s got to be some other way of tuning the spec that doesn’t involve changing it mechanically 12 days before the season after months of beta testing, a way that doesn’t make the spec less fun to play.
Its not even about the damage output of the spec at this point, its how fun it is to play, this change is going to make the spec less fun. Please look for a different way to balance the spec and revert this change.

Why wouldent they just tune the numbers abit…mana cascade “cough” fix the numbers there if u wanna nerf the damage. Dont kill the gameplay blizzard! Please revert this and tune some numbers instead…affecting our rotation this late is kinda troll and cringe.

yes, why nerf the gameplay instead of the damage? mana cascade, or burden of power is good places to nerf the damage or the haste/damage. it dont make sense. do you just wanna take a dubble dip away, Blizzard? no matter what it is? is that the case? why change the gameplay this late in tuning?

It just feels sooo odd, nerfing the rotation rather than the numbers of it. Im guessing they are doing it to make Arcane easier? Which is not even safe to say thats the case, we might get something like the early variants of Sunfury sims, where you need to track everything perfectly. Idk almost all mages liked the new version of Arcane for blizzard to take it away from us 12 days before season start… Couldn’t they just nerf the numbers instead…
To be fair, sometime it feels like they dont know what they are doing, or…they are just lazy. Instead of turning some of the tuning knobs they do this…wich kinda breaks the fun gameplay of the spec. They claimed that they were gonna listen more to their community…lets hope they actually do.

dont go making changes to gameplay rotations at this point

I do agree that SF arcane was a bit overturned and warranted slight tuning but this was no mere tuning . It will literally be less fun to play the spec now and will keep people away from the spec

It is just so extremely disheartening with all the big talks about all the tuning knobs they’ve put in place to avoid this - change spec rotation hoping to nerf damage. They literally say it in their own interviews…
Sunfury needed some sort of a damage nerf, sure. Just… given the amount of % damage passives they have available for tuning, going this route just blows my mind.
They acknowledged the recent case with Nether Precision only to turn around and do this, now…, this is not the beta anymore.
It seems whoever is responsible for this is quite disconnected from the goals of balancing Blizzard said they have in mind…
I am all for balancing damage between specs and classes but this is probably the worst possible way to do it, feels bad

Look, I’m not going to argue with the fact that sunfury arcane needed a nerf, especially in ST but is this REALLY the way you want to do it?
Especially after all of the extremely negative feedback you got after doing the exact same thing with nether precision.
I’m not usually one for conspiratorial thinking but unless the mage developer has changed to a completely different person in the last month, this change feels pretty callous and spiteful to me.
As others have said, you had so many ways to tune sunfury arcane and you intentionally chose the one that you must’ve known would be the most controversial and unpopular because you’ve already had the feedback about it! Do you want us to kick up a storm on the forums again? I’m starting to think that annoying arcane mages is some kind of sport for the wow developers.
This in addition to:
- The insultingly pathetic buff to fire (which still leaves it easily one of the worst specs in the game in AoE and ST).
- The absolutely awful & clunky mess that is Spellslinger Frost (spamming IL, ignoring GS in Icy veins and mandatory WA to track WC applications from splinterstorm anyone?)
- The fact that Frostfire is still bugged and undertuned for both frost and fire, something that hasn’t really been addressed with these changes and something we’ve been telling Blizzard since early Beta.
I’m just really glad that I’ve been gearing a warlock in parallel as that class is in a much better state.
I’m bitterly disappointed tbh because there was a time where mage was (from a design and rotation perspective) pretty good across the board (ignoring spellslinger frost which ruins the awesome 10.1.5 revamp) and I was hyped to finally play it as a main after years of it being just an alt.
All they had to do was aura nerf/buff it and it would’ve been fine. They have really dropped the ball on mage this time around and the hype I had for playing mage is pretty dead now even if they revert this double-dipping change. I just don’t have confidence in the mage developer anymore.
P.S. Arcane Soul base duration nerf sucks too. Nerf the damn numbers NOT the gameplay.

Dude I literally just choose mage aas my new main from a warlock last exp and also literally just learned how to play it. Took me like 8h at least.
Now they change the rotation. Wtf. How can you do that in the second week of release. Why not in the beta.
This really now gave me a big dampener of how fun WoW feels now for me. It’s ok to put work in and learn a new spec but this change feels sooo unnecessary…

The rotation felt really good for Arcane with the double dipping, with Nether Precision and also the Burden of Power. In contrast to how Arcane worked previous to TWW reworks in Dragonflight and before, this brought in a lot of new fun for the spec.
Thus I am saddened to see these recent changes to remove the double dipping for the Burden of Power, especially since Blizzard already agreed that Double Dipping is fun, as seen by their recent reversal of the Nether Precision double dipping removing.

i dont understad why would you do the same mistake you did with NP double dipping before, we all agree that we need a nerf, just flat nerf the dmg, do not change the game play, we are all enjoying the game play.
please re-consider this change and revert it and just flat nerf the dmg, we were all invested in sunfury arcane rotation and we got comfrotable with it

Can we please keep the playstyle and just nerf the numbers instead. The rotation is good and changing it this close to the season after getting used to it is not the right way.

These changes make the arcane mage boring zzzzzzzzzzz

Adding my voice to the outrage (yes, outrage) to the burden of power changes. Devs need to explain to the community why they rolled over and reverted the double dip on NP change then thought doing virtually the same with another spell wouldn’t generate backlash.
Nerf the spec. Tune the numbers. Please don’t mess up the mechanical playstyle so close to new season in a live setting…

Also wish to voice concern about these changes.
Sunfury needs a nerf for sure, but to its numbers not its gameplay. Its a principle blizzard should adopt going forward. It numbers need tuning adjust flat values and coefficients not gameplay.
As per preheats latest video this is around a 3% nerf which doesnt even bring Sunfury inline which makes this change even more bemusing.
All you have achieved is gameplay nerfs with the same change you should have learnt from with nether precision.
What should be done.
-
Revert Burden double dipping
-
Revert Arcane soul base duration
-
Keep pheonix nerf
-
Nerf mana Cascade based on calculations.
-
Nerf burden damage modifying based on calculations.
This is not a complicated thing to do. Please consider this as its not to late to accept these changed are just wrong and achieve very little.
Please consider all the guides, APL changes and player time which will now be required.
Quick plug for Spell Slinger
Can you please add back in the splinterstorm generates arcane missiles. This spec is suppose to be fast flowing and this was removed in beta based on a bug with CC generating double the amount of procs. The bug was fixed and this was never reverted.

Don’t change the gameplay, nerf the number if too strong for your taste Blizzard.

To all the people saying nerf the damage, please shut up.
You can harp about damage nerfing when we literaly are beating every other class and spec for everything, till then let mage be a actual dps class and deal.
how many more people need to ask for this i dont understand , nerf SF arcane by a % , keep double dipping so we can have FUN in a Video game for gods shake !
