Hey guys, Lloyd here! I am kind of dissapointed at the Dracthyr rp scene. There doesn’t seem to be any good guild out here, and I really like Dracthyr. I have been a Guild Master before of The Eighth Regiment and been rping for 10 years, first here then on The Sha’tar as Wordan. I am thinking of making a Dracthyr RP guild, military like but there might also be some different options in the guild such as a more civillian type of role.
Is there any interest in this? I have been looking up some ranks, Talon, Winglord, even Lieutenant seems to exist. Scalecommander, though I think that one is too high. Since Lieutenant exists I might make this guy a Captain. If they have Lieutenants why shouldn’t they have Captain’s? I was also thinking about Winglord, because Scalecommander is a bit too high.

The problem with the dracthyr is that there aren’t that many long-term concepts with them. They’re still extremely different from mortal races, most of the normal social matters doesn’t apply to them, and the deeper issues like draconic politics or the veyrns’ status, loyalties and relations to the rest of the world need to not be forgotten by the devs themselves in the first place to work at all. Unfortunately, RP-wise they work best at the episodic roles, in specific instances or themes, while a standing guild is bound to get into the shortage of fitting themes easily enough.

Wouldn’t they fit like a travelling unit? Aiding places that are important for their allies but also maybe for Dragonkin in general? We have all these Emerald Dream portals, these places like Dragonblight. I could see them gather there, flying around Azeroth. Aiding dragonkin, and going to the places that are important to them.
I think Linma makes good points, though I do also love Dracthyr and hope they don’t get sidelined now their expac is ‘done’ (CoughDEMONHUNTERScough)
There’s some key questions I think anyone trying to do a purely-Drac guild needs to ask themselves;
-
Are they ‘official’ military, as in part of the 4 main Weyrns? If so, are guild leadership happy that they are basically going to have to invent/headcanon ranks, that other players may contest that, that the devs may yet expand on lore and then the guild will havento adapt?
-
Are they instead a group that has formed from seperate Dracthyr from across the Weyrns? Are they trying to make their own fresh start, or are they aligning with one of the overarching missions? How far divergent are they?
There’s probably more, but my brains a little crisped at this point.
My own Drac have felt like they work very well when added as ‘Spice’ to other racial guilds and/or RP. What’s to add the spice and seasoning to the inverse, where it’s mostly Drac?

Good questions. I think it makes the most sense to make a neutral rp guild. Since the Dracthyr are quite spread among Horde and Alliance. So think of Obisidian Warder Dracthyr and Dark Talon uniting together to aid their allies.
So far I see it I think there are a lot of places that could be important or good to go to as a Dracthyr. To aid people there and do things that are important to Dragonkin.
As ranks and stuff, yeah it’s a tough one. There are quite some ranks, but I think it can be done. Virdio is doing this as equals. I mean he might be a Captain or something, but it’s more based on trust. I think it won’t work if he somehow shows up with papers from the Obsidian Warders that he is some big shot. He is an Evoker so that is also big, but it’s up to other Dracthyr if they want to follow his command. It’s more of a: Let’s group together, you can still be an Obisidian Warder or a Dark Talon, just like the Cenarion Cirlce. But we have been divided for too long, we can work together aslong as their is an armistice.
As for the spice thing, isn’t that with most racial guilds? I am sure you can say the same about Draenei guilds or Night Elf guilds, they mostly have the same race too.
I adore Dracthyr, problem is for a Dracthyr only guild to thrive you’ll be looking for a lot of diamonds in the rough. The needles in the haystack.
The race has, sadly, drawn in a mixture of the Vulpera and ‘Hurrdurr’ Worgen crowd. The super aggressive, growth pot chuggers who’s only personality trait is how massive and brooding they are and that they should be swarmed by adoring fans and lovers. And then the cuddle puddle groups, which the name suggests, are only in it for the… ‘cuddling’.
It’s rare to see a Dracthyr that doesn’t go into one of these catagories. You hear stories of how they go into guilds and just cause so much drama over not being the center of attention or their love interest(s) aren’t actually paying attention to them.

Not technically true, we see a lot of Dracthyr NPCs doing ‘social’ things - such as the small group outside the Mage Tower in Stormwind talking about a cat. Just because they were once loyal soldiers of Neltharion does not necessarily mean that they’re alienated in this way. They’ve been sleeping for twenty thousand years - there’s a lot of social and exploration RP you could do with this.
Also not really true. Dracthyr aren’t dragons, so they don’t need to worry about that. They were never really involved in the Dragonflight’s politics in Dragonflight - only Emberthal really interacted with a dragon, and that was Ebyssian. They are very firmly Horde or Alliance, and most of them stick around with those now (as per the conversation between Emberthal, Cindrethresh and Azurathel in Valdrakken.) Although loyal to their weryns, most of the weryn lore have been solved at the conclusion of Dragonflight.
They’re also currently (in lore, as per Exploring Azeroth: Islands and Isles) working on ‘fixing’ up the Forbidden Isle. There’s a lot of stuff interesting that could be done with Dracthyr outside of being loyal military-based drakonid.
As per making a Dracthyr-aligned guild, there are a lot of cool things you could do with it. For example, I believe it’s well known that Iridikron is off scheming somewhere, and as a Dracthyr your whole purpose was to fight the primalists, so I don’t see why a bunch of Dracthyr wouldn’t band together to try and work against him?
A military themed Dracthyr seems the safest option when it comes to making a Dracthyr guild - as that is essentially what they are afterall, but I think personally it would be fun to explore a bit more of the social and exploration aspects of the Dracthyr. To try and find that nice balance would be difficult but it’s something that could work!
To be fair, this can be the case of any race and not necessarily just linked to Dracthyr. It doesn’t mean someone has to stop trying to make a guild, you know?

Oh absolutely. If they want to go for it, they can. I hope they succeed. It’s just from what I and many, many others have seen from the Stormwind Dracthyr the experiences tend not to be overly pleasent.
At the risk of angering any SW/pickup regulars, that’s literally judging based on lowest common denominator
That is up to the guild leaders and officers to deal with if the guild does kick off Not really relevant on a guild interest thread.
Feel free to join the Dracthyr guild then when it is made. That way you can be one of the Dracthyr that is not like the Stormwind Dracthyr. I actually think many that replied in this thread not liking the way Dracthyr RP is now should join. This is exactly the reason why I want to make such a guild.

I think there’s still some points to hammer out. You’ve said Military Focus, and that’s fine - a lot of the Dracthyr are, even with the world at their wingtips, seemingly still mostly comfortable with what’s familiar.
Is the focus similar to the established Weyrns? Or is this more a ‘group gathered together for a specific purpose’? Or the opposite, a broad-strokes group with a wider mission?
If you’re going military, is it a strict structure? I think you’re absolutely right on avoiding Scalecommander - that’s a very particular rank in lore for Dracthyr, and I’d argue even Winglord (usually held by second-in-commands or directly-in-contact-with-SC NPCs from what we’ve seen) is probably stretching things.
Captain seems like a good, all around rank. Lieutenants and whatnot likewise. But is it a direct heirarchy or, if the group isn’t a direct translation of the Weyrns we’ve seen so far, do they have a more fluid command structure? I know some people often voice a displeasure along the lines of “Everything is councils now” in lore, but for guild-running it has its merits both IC and OOC.
I’ve got a couple of guilds I have characters in already, and also not a ton of free-time and/or consistency around work at the moment, sadly. That may change next year, who knows. To be honest, if I’d had the freedom, I’d have honestly contemplated making a guild/Dracthyr guild myself - I’ve not GM’d before but you never know until you leap, after all.

I think “Wingleader” from Scaleborn might work a bit better in terms of this.

Good questions, let me see if I can answer most of them!
My goal is to make a guild, filled with Dracthyr. Military rp would be the best but I want to also focus on the social aspect. My Dracthyr is a soldier type, but he doesn’t expect other Dracthyr to simply follow him. The Dracthyr also don’t have to follow orders blindly anymore. So it will feel kind of bad if he suddenly rises up and orders others to follow him like they did when they were forced to obey.
It’s hard to just answer simply. But yes my Dracthyr will be a leader, but a voluntarily leader in this case, simply because it’s not an organisation that is official. He wants to gather a group of Dracthyr from both the Obsidian Warders and from the Dark Talon or any other group, and bring them together for missions. And when there is a mission there needs to be someone willing to lead the rest.
I imagine after these guild events, when there are no guild events, any Dracthyr is free to do what they want. Head back to Stormwind, head back to their Dark Talon friends. I want it to be something similair to the Cenarion Circle, but a bit more military. I guess it is hard to just answer this in one answer haha.
That said, I am not planning to do this alone. I need officers for this guild, I need help. I want to make good Dracthyr RP with all of you. I don’t want to lead the guild just so I can be a Guild Leader. I just notice the lack of Dracthyr RP. If someone of you want to make this guild together with me, be an officer. I say please, that would be really nice! I need all the help I can get!

The early days of Dracthyr RP, when it was still in its infancy during Pre-Patch and Launch, were great times. We had huge events of Dracthyr gathering @ Blackwing Lair, Evoker lessons, … but that all died out pretty quickly and I always wondered why? Dracthyr give the perfect mix of paramilitary RP and adventure RP. I’ve always struggled to find a good fit for my Evoker. :L Hopefully this can bring people together who’ve felt the same way. There’s so much untapped potential when it comes to Dracthyr RP, imo. People only reduce them to quirky dragon people who go out adventuring nowadays. It’s really sad to see.

I’m a bit sad I missed all the early day Dracthyr stuff, though I have absolutely had fun with Izzy here, and my Horde-side Evoker too by throwing them into guild-related RP and whatnot.
Was there any indication why things petered out, or was it simply a case of the initial momentum and new-ness fading over time?
It is also a little wild to me to hear so many people running into ‘Meh’ Drac concepts in the wild.
Ysyndra here is a member of the Healing Wings (I know, not a full choice in-game but given how limited we get in a lot of things I Really Don’t Care lol) and was pretty easy to step into RP when I wanted to. She’s a professional combat medic on the one hand, while also still having the ‘Been asleep for ten thousand years’ wonder at the new world she finds herself in. Her ‘hooks’ for want of a better word are competence, healing, military vibe and also her ‘weakness’ being compassion - she’s still very much trying to save every life she can, and that gave some interesting moments in RP the other month with her!
Thyrazak, my Horde Dev Evoker, on the other hand was a member of the Ebon Scales - Sundered Flame - Ebon Scales again now (originally Dark Talons transfer, but since they came back in-game I figured… why not). Initially also angry at the state of the world and Weyrns and dragons after waking, Thyr’s concsience swiftly caught up with him and, as Sarkareth had the Sundered Flame targetting civilians and scholars without a care, it became too much and he handed himself over to the other Weyrns. Initially asking for a transfer to the Dark Talons (he feels like he has a lot of common ground with members of the Horde) he semi-reluctantly returned to the Scales, as he feels he can trust Emberthal and Dezran and, hopefully, reconnect with those of his old comrades that are left.
Thyr is a much less confident, more soul-searching kind of character than Izzy, while still being a lot of fun. Both, being Dracthyr, have the angle of ‘Strange new world’ which I think helps with RP - you’re not needing to wiki information that your character would logically probably know, and instead go “New world, who dis?” as and when needed haha.
Anyway. Enough off-track character rambling
Where would you like to be based or would you perpetually be on the move?
There are various spots on the Dragon Isles which may work and give room for the non guided or others to visit you during your down time.

So, I think it’s time to make this guild? Any people that want to be officers or are interested?
I’m interested, sadly Im not in a position to commit to (more) guilds and, much as I’d like to try my hand at officering, I again have a work schedule that isn’t consistent enough to let me commit.
Best of luck, if it all goes ahead!
