I haven’t done much of the zones in Outland since I’m probably redoing the same Eastern Kingdoms zones all over again 'cause I love them so much xD
But Shadowmoon Valley was really really good! It had awesome lore!
Also I hate Netherstorm Ugh!
Come to think of it I can’t remember seeing low rez stuff either. But then again I haven’t been there in ages. Regardless the belf zone are meant to display the belfs civilization center and tell several stories at the same time, such as the invasion of the trolls and undead. The draenei zone just tell the story of “oops we crashed”.
No I know. I’m just saying that the area has a few of the same traits of the Shadowmoon Valley area. But yeah, essentially it’s a crash site. So that’s why I said it needs an update badly.
Actually no, the draenei and blood elf starting zones are not the oldest questing zones that are still in the game. The oldest one is actually Silithus. With Cataclysm all the vanilla zones were revamped except Silithus, in that zone Blizzard just removed some quests related to vanilla hight end content (the ones that requires to farm cultist to summon bosses) but they never added new quest and new story like in any other vanilla zone. The quest that are available in Silithus are quests that were created in Vanilla.
Netherstorm still pains me. So does bladestorm actually. Shadow moon valley and zangamarsh were really cool areas.
Maybe that’s my problem. I need direction. Strict direction. It’s also probably why Alduin is still causing havoc in my Skyrim game because I did that go wherever I liked thing and followed that rabbit.
I love the zones in eastern kingdoms. I seem to be doing them over and over again. Despite promising to do kalmidor, I seem to not stick to it. LoL.
It really does need an update. Totally agree.
Oh, I get what you’re saying now. Yeah I agree, it’s been stuck in tbc era too long.
Because they’re TBC zones not Cata Zones. Questing was still horrible back then.
But but Eversong Woods and Ghostlands! And and Sunstraider Isle!
Those zones are the best!
Haven’t played through Ghostlands but Eversong is tedious and Annoying. Too many quests and not really well ordered.
Sure Draenei zones suffer even more from having only one quest hub in each zone and you’re given almost all quests at once. Not to mention how there are very few flight paths in those zones (oh Nagrand how much I hate you).
I actually find this is a weakness of more modern versions. WoW’s gameplay has gone from being open world and free-form about a massive unexplored world of adventure and into a linear story, taken to its logical conclusion and most extreme with Shadowlands.
There’s nothing wrong with not killing Alduin. I mean w/e. As long as you’re having fun, that’s all that matters.
You get a variety of races, the landscape is not all the same and you get a free tabard. It’s nowhere near as bad as other starting zones, Durotar or Elwynn Forest for instance.
Besides, there are what Six types of quests?
But you can still go off and explore the world if you want to do that type of thing. For example There’s a few of those hidden quests that you’d only find if you went off the linear quest lines . I hate to use the term but I find that having direction allows for more inclusion. Is it handholding — yeah but it does allow a wider range of access to the gaming experience for other people but I can also see how the lack of freedom to explore free form can be disappointing. Then again, I really don’t miss running around areas that I have no idea how I got there or how I can get out again whilst headstone is on cool down. But Then I’ve never been good with directions or reading maps.
One of the things that I do agree with that I’ve seen pop up and something my dad really goes on about is the slight dampening of the gameplay mechanics. I’m not as old school as those who’ve played since vanilla but I remember the gameplay mechanics being much more complex, you’d have to really appreciate the talent and rotation systems and when working in groups for a dungeon for example — you’d have to at least know the mechanics and use the symbols appropriately. I don’t think I’ve ever been in a dungeon now where someone uses sheep or sap. But then it’s wider accessibility. Still whenever i tank I’m still pretty much the old school way of (blue icon = sheep/sap, skull= kill first). But I miss those days.
I quite like the quests and zones tbh. Been a while since I did them really need to do them again! Only thing annoying imo is that quest mobs don’t show they are quest mobs when hovering over them. But a few zones have this issue since scaling.
These are my favorite zones, I only disike the BE and NE presence there.
I didn’t like it so much in TBC but having gotten more into the lore, I do appreciate the questlines. Of course, much like the Belf areas and all of TBC, the QoL is god awful and travelling everywhere is a nightmare. Especially since you can never fly!
I’ve not done the quests there since this toon adventured there in 2007.
I intend to level my Lightforged through there just for old time’s sake. You’ve managed my expectations though so hopefully I won’t be too disappointed.
Hopefully with the new levelling speed I’ll be 50 by just Azuremyst and Bloodmyst.
No, you’re right. It’s pretty dull. The only reason I never made a Draenei was because I couldn’t make it past the initial starting zone due to how boring and completely uninspiring it was.
I know it’s a lot of work, but I truly hope Blizz go back at some point and revamp a lot of the older areas.
I honestly find those two better, well Elwynn Forest for sure, quests are really nice there! I might agree that Durotar could be worse but still not sure…Hmm it’s a hard question!
The shaman quest is so cool though! Or is that removed or was it shaman only? Where you had to run around as a cat and such.
I don’t think that’s a shaman only quest, I think it’s just a normal quest attuning you to the Furblog. That’s if you mean the one where you go up the hill, get wings and jump off.
I think those maps are very cool, love the music and calm, and i really loved the quest that turns u into a cat ( not sure if that one is still there since it has been so long).
