I often see this phrase ran around but then I look towards the story forums and they’re a ghost town.
As someone who frequently posted there from Cataclysm until now I don’t know wether to laugh or to cry when someone says the lore is so good, and that this expansion feels so like the Warcraft we used to love.
Then why are the lore forums still so empty?
I decided to check out the US lore forums but it’s all just Twitter drama.
Honest question from a lore nerd on Warcraft, because I fail to see how or why “Warcraft is back” because I used to be present here during the glory days where it was the 2nd most active part of the forums besides general discussion.
No one even wants to discuss the new lore even, it’s all just old lore or pointing out inconsistencies.
It’s quite sad to see it like this when you come from a time where it used to be one of the busiest places on here :(.
I think it’s more of a “The lore is so good compared to what we’ve had lately.” vibe, it’s getting back to what Warcraft should be rather than where it’s been.
In my memory, Lore forums were frequented by people who argued over the merits of writing. I even remember long threads of people having a go at each other over Metzen’s decisions regarding Thrall in Cataclysm.
I don’t think there are many people who disagree with the direction Dragonflight is going with the story, especially after what happened in Shadowlands. Therefore, there is little discussion to be had.
Well… that’s not exactly a high bar. But I fail to see how it is.
The Drac’thyr are an inconsistency on their own. They look like a male blood elf and a human female. Yet both did not even exist at that time as a race.
Humans were still the Vrykul in Northrend and the High Elves were not a thing yet.
visage are not made when an dragon is born, i believe that dracthyrs tryed to use a visage of some Mortals they saw when visited the mortal world, and trying to imitate those races, they came out like that.
i hope that in future dracthyrs will have more visages ngl.
Your mistake is thinking WoW’s writing was ever above “okay” really.
Yes, their visage is a new magic they didn’t have prior to arrive outside of the isle. It’s their own self-image too, they pick how they want to look at the moment of being taught the spell.
You are wrong, once again. I was there and people just talked about adding onto more things to the World of Warcraft, giving advice or just feedback. Talking about the clans of the Orcs on Azeroth, the what ifs, alternate lore was made. Cool ideas were warped and brainstormed.
You didn’t visit them as much as I did then. There was also a lot of faction pride and discussion on who actually did what. (remember camp Taurajo!)).
Nowadays, nobody even bothers, no one is passionate anymore. Which is why Dragonflight lore is so sterile.
Originally dragons used visages to interfere with mortal affairs, not some kind of metaphor with self identity.
And you people call yourself fans?
What’s with this damn attitude on here?
“actually wow wasn’t that good”.
Okay? then you should’ve quit playing if you hated it so much. I thought it was great.
Go away with this stupid rhetoric. It doesn’t make sense and it only makes me angry.
Why do I need to sing the praises of something to be able to call myself a fan? I can be realistic, seems you cannot.
Grasp more?
I didn’t say it wasn’t that good, I said the story writing was never exceptional, it was and always has been, medicore. What do you expect from a game exactly?
I can cherry-pick memories of those forums too, but I don’t think that will lead to any useful discussion.
What I WILL say is there have been some interesting discussions on other platforms, like Reddit and Twitter, over the meaning of N’Zoth’s whispers, the controversy with Malfurion’s sacrifice, and the location of the new coming world tree.
It is entirely possible that the same volume of discussion is happening, but on other platforms. The “forum” is a dying breed of social interaction on the Internet anyway.
Every damn time I come here I get trashed by a small amount of people who are very loud with the reply numbers to back them up and all they can do is trash down or tear down the old Warcraft, or simply lie that “this is how things were always used to be”. It’s quite sad. I wonder if it’s intentional, or if there is some infamous discord group linking posts to target.
Saying something has “okay” writing doesn’t sound like you’re much of a fan to be honest.
You’re only talking down on people here who actually like it. It’s aggressive and toxic af.
I had over 4 thousand posts before the reset happened and these forums got wiped, and about 80% of those posts was within the lore forums.
I didn’t cherrypick no such thing. There were a lot of people who represented each race, it was fun to interact with everyone, everyone was so passionate about it.
You don’t see that anymore.
Feel like it’s partly because they homogenized races. Makes them bland.
Be that as it may, but I think my point about discussion happening on other platforms still stands. The internet has changed a bit in the last 10 years.
Oh I know about Reddit. I don’t see a lot of useful stuff on twitter barring identity politics inserted into races, quite toxic.
I’m in a fair share of discord groups myself but one can talk about only so much stuff before creating your own thing ofcourse.
I’m literally replying only to you, and nobody else, best not to decree yourself as the crowd when you’re on your taff. You also have more forum posts than me, so you’re the vocal one on these forums.
We don’t share an opinion, something you need to accept really. I like WoW, I like the lore, i’ve enjoyed a majority of the they have produced but I am under no illusion that WoW’s writing has been ever more than okay, because I simply don’t think it has been.
And now you’re acting obtuse aswell.
How is it bait? You’re doing nothing but talking down on me, and for what? Because I pointed out how dead the lore forums are and how there’s almost no passion left from the community besides a few people like you saying “it’s okay”. Lol!
You’re snarky, and toxic. You’re telling me to touch grass yet you’re all surprised I call you passive aggressive.
This isn’t Twitter my dude.
That’s the thing, it used to be shared a lot here. Everyone had a thing about Warcraft they were passionate about. Some was a blood elf fan, some a Troll, then there’s me who really liked Orcs, I’m specifically talking about that passion being gone.
