Dragonflight Priest Talent Feedback Thread

Or make it like Soul Leech but on a timer, allowing the shield buff to still be up for the duration after hitting 0

I tbh don’t mind Crystaline Protection as shadow, seeing as it gives our primary movement ability a tiny heal, and it’s the most logical way to get to Angelic Bulwark. And for us having both BaS and AF is quite nice. BaS for short movements and AF for longer movement, weave in BaS then we got non stop +40% movement for roughly 24 secs. It’s just gonna get confusing if trying to weave in instants as well

PvP orientied Post ahead:

What bothers me most with disc priest besides the non existent healing (ok ok, ill wait for final tuning) is that the tree and spec in general is full of talents that buff the dmg in some way, ill try to list them including pvp talents

Twilight Equilibrium
Sins of the Many
Revel in Purity
Inner Shadow
Schism
Blazing Light
Shadow Covenant
Improved Shadow Word: Pain
Dark Archangel
Tools of the Cloth
Throes of Pain
Weal and Woe

im sure i forgot something

Not all of these modifiers buff both shadow and holy damage, yes. And not every listed talent is worth taking. Im just trying to make a point. If you compare disc smite with holy smite with all available modifiers active that are available to the specs you will find that holy priest smite does notably more dmg. Disc smite is just depressing.

I think its lazy design to put all these talents in the tree that buff your dmg a bit and even if you select all of it, you still end up with less dmg than holy.

Atonement and/or damage needs a signicant buff in atleast non-raid-environment. Let it scale different for raids if its too strong, idk. Atonement is way to weak in group content for a unique spec that is supposed to heal with damage. If disc loses shadowmend and power word life with no compensation this spec is dead in pvp

I miss the pre legion atonement. I miss pre legion everything priest in general. Legion to me is the expansion that took my favourite class and put it 6 feet under. BfA dug another 6 feet, and in SL they drilled a tiny hole to shadow’s coffin, but quickly filled it in again.

So here’s hoping that we get as loud as the hunters, so that they actually listen to us, and go against their own words of “everything is good now”, just like they did when they said they wanted to devalue MF, yet Monomania is a thing tied to it, making it function the exact same way as it does now but stronger

Blue post was a bunch of “other classes gets this, so you can’t… oh and also we’re removing these things from you as well, because we’re happy with this direction”. I’d like to see their take on what the design actually think we’re getting in DF. What new thing does DF bring to priests, that is exciting, and something to look forward to?

Honestly I haven’t looked at disc and holy, but for shadow is that supposed to be Mindgames or Mindspike? Because as much as I like Spike, all it amounts to is another proc to keep track of, and in niche situations, something to cast when locked out.

So yeah, since they according to the blue post “don’t plan any more major changes” I doubt the idols, which was what had the potential to be we shadow is “getting”, will see the improvement they so badly need.

They just added a bunch of stuff from past expansions without iterating or modernizing it. If Mind Spike is to compete with Mind Flay as a filler, I don’t think we should have talents to buff them, but each filler instead should represent their own playstyle-- Bake Mind Melt into Spike baseline, and Monomania into Flay, baseline. I’m also not a fan of how blast procs now interupt the flay cast…

Honestly, I liked the previous talent tree before this one better. If Tithe Evasion and Spike just had the changes from this one, and the capstones would be looked at, I might not even have minded if that went live like that. The new iteration feels much more clunky and unfinished to me. Although on a positive note, I do like how you can distinctly see how left side is dot oriented, and right side is blaster oriented.

Orbs are still consumed by spike, going with the “left side is dots” idea, this needs to be DP instead. We’re also still picking between Bender and Y’shaarj. Not to forget the talent "Pain of Death, is only actually good with the prior talent Deathspeaker, but Flay: Insanity is sitting at the same node. I feel like Pain of Death should do something with FI as well, if that is going to be the case.

They previously acknowledged that Piercing Shadows was naught but 2 points for 5% damage, which is why it was removed, only for them to make Throes of Pain into the same thing.

As for button bloat in holy(and others?): Redesign Mindgames into being a Mind Blast modifier(similar to the previous Mind Restrain) with reduced effect. Shadow would be happy, disc would get their Restrain back, and more reason to cast Blast, while holy(if they previously picked up Mindgames), would free up a button. Boom, easy.

I’m honestly not sure at this moment what in DF about priest would make me want to play it, over any other class.

The beta feedback forums if you all haven’t seen them, both EU and US are in complete uproar.

And that is completely understandable, because we’re far from close to a spec/class that looks finished. But they apparently wanna treat us like a giant dent, that they just repaint and polish, and hopes no one notices

And the longer this continues I’m getting closer and closer to actually swapping to evoker, just because their kit looks more like the direction shadow was moving in WoD. They just have some new mechanics and some actual utility. And then ofc a completely different fantasy, but I can look past that

Yeah they actually did a good thing, they just executed it extremely badly

Oh, also for DA and VF identity; number tuning aside(Vform replaces Sform, so it’s by proxy 10% weaker), if they are to serve different gameplay functionalities, I’d suggest removing Ancient Madness as a talent, and baking it into DA, and then Monomania into Vform. There, they now have different gameplay identities, one rot, one blaster, but can function vice versa. If they don’t plan on addressing the fact that DA currently gives +25% while Vform only gives +10%, I’d suggest returning Hungering Void as an effect of Vbolt, baseline. If our mastery makes that too strong, just make Vform the opposite of DA and only increase periodics.

Another long-time Shadow priest disappointed with the last blue post. It’s good to get some feedback but sad that yet again the spec won’t be satisfactorily finished as we go into a new expansion. It seems like we are now not far off having a fun, smooth, viable spec but it does need some more iterations.

Annoying that we still have to choose between utility and through put on the spec tree and if we take the throughput, we will have less utility that we currently have.

As soon as it was announced that there was going to be this complete rework of the talent trees it was clear that this could make or break the expansion. Please Blizzard, look at the number of passionate posts and see how much this means to players and put some more resources into this part of the game.

There are so many excellent suggestions for the tweaks needed in this thread and others!

I tbh feel like they should just make DA and VF equal in in damage increase and remove the dot limitation on DA so that they are equal. Because then players can pick whichever one they want without being punished for liking one fantasy over the other

DA and VF should be equal ish, and then have more stuff you can invest in them. They’ve got potential but atm they’re a little dead end on their own.

I’m gonna come out and say I’d love to sink a bunch of points into void form gameplay. I’d sacrifice my shadowfiend for it. Hungering Void, void bolt cleaving, repeat void eruptions (100 insanity spell? Or after casting N void bolts?)

But they’ve flat out stated they don’t have time to iterate anymore, at which point I’d strongly prefer if they kept SL shadow.

True, and as how things are looking now I would prefer a full reset of the spec, fantasy and all. Just so that they can build something that works, rather than trying to repair something that’s broken and end up breaking it in another way. I really wish Legion didn’t bring the changes it did, and it was always obvious even during legion beta that we would have deep scars after the artifact was gone. I did like the insane fantasy it brought tho

As a big fan of anything void in WoW, the current priest has little representation of it after they gutted Vform, which by the way still replaces Sform, meaning all it currently does is give you a 10% dmg increase, and access to Vbolt. Compared to DA that keeps Sform intact, along with it’s whopping 25% dmg increase, albeit non-periodic only.

I’m all for the option to not rely on the void side of shadow, I hear you shadow brothers and sisters, but there’s hardly anything void in our tree at the moment, outside of the names(Mind- blast, flay, control and spike).

I’m not sure what effects they would have, but I’d love if we had an ability to literally tear a hole open into the void, or an ability called “Null and Void”. I don’t know what it’d do, but the name is right there.

Logic would be the option to spec deep in void or spec deeply into idk what the other thing is
And spec focused ST or aoe

Thats 4 builds for some sort of structure

But that’s thinking logically. I’m tired. I think the way they made choice nodes prevents conditional branches for now

One alternative to leap of faith and vault could be the ability to safely cross dangerous ground for a limited time/distance, feels more like an actual leap of faith, as the target of leap currently isn’t the one choosing to trust you, you just yoink them.

Class identity. Thoughts and prayers, but like, they work.

A black hole that slowly draws mobs in for shadowfrost damage, but it’s too much fun tbh. It could be a banish style cc
It could be a self banish defensive

Or it could live up to it’s name and actually let us take a leap of faith. Like for it to actually be a leap of faith the way it works now, our target needs to get a yes and no box up asking if they trust us. Yes, you’re griped, No, you stay where you are. Otherwise it should be called Forced faith or Forced leap

My mental image of leap of faith will always be from Indiana Jones and the Holy Grail and I’m afraid you can’t change my mind. Current lifegrip is a super great thing for the team, less so for me. And extremely situational to be called MY major movement CD. Quick fix if me and target get a short DR+speed, but clunky. It might be funny if we could move a whole party at once.

Anyway, since I’m here, I think there’s an investment - > reward relationship worth looking into with AOE especially.
High invest, high return: You can meticulously VT dot several targets and get a huge return investment in PL cleave, although with the short duration of the dot and the cd on mind blast it’s actually cruel. Better to have flay hurt all targets with VT.
Low invest: You can also fairly quickly SW:P unlimited targets with SN. It only synergises with itself but its easy and if you have 20 murlocs it’s an obvious choice.

And it’s up to you to decide what’s best for the current pull (let’s ignore how easy this is for many melee classes)
So on live there’s a clear relationship where VT is investment and SW:P is quick, but on beta the return for psychic link is nothing. See I don’t mind committing to my target, I think it’s got a lovely high skill play, but I want my efforts rewarded. Sure, make the class difficult, but if you put in the work, you see results. That’s how live feels, mostly.

Right now beta is a bunch of systems stacking on both myself and the target but their collective potential isn’t clear.

A month ago I would’ve been excited to just be able to pick a few of the currently mutually exclusive talents but atm I mostly want a DF refund.

I’ve always thought of like assassins creed, but converted into a Heroic Leap but with greater distance

Hi all, dropping my 2 cents on Disco pvp (for reference i played around 120 rounds of solo q in the past days going 80w-50l, so not too bad for my xp) .
so:

Cons:

  • getting trained is awful. out instants are incredibly useless and radiance heal is incredibly low compared to retail, we have to use 3-4 instants to heal what we used to do in a single radiance. Pain transformation at 12% is also incredibly useless (SL conduit buffs it to 30%+ and sometimes it still doesn’t save someone from getting oneshot in a kidney, so i wonder why it got nerfed). If you get kicked on holy and stunned 4s+ you are basically done, luckily PW:life is bugged out of its mind and you can cast it while ccd.

  • prayer of mending heals 0, basically a wasted global and talent that you have to get for spell warding

  • renew also heals nothing, on average 2k (healthpools with no gear are around 200k), but atleast it takes a second off shield cd if playing “Train of Thought”

  • everybody getting a knockback makes our most “skilled” defensive, dome, basically useless;

  • while 15s cd on shadowmend is already a massive shift in playstyle and a brutal nerf, removing it would be absolutely braindead

  • PWS is nice and fat and probably our best healing global, but the cooldown is weird to play around and the cd hinders our atonement distribuition, as you have to resort to flash healing non priority targets to apply it

  • mana goes down veryyyy fast

  • mass dispell is now useless

  • surge of light seems to never proc

  • smite and mindblast are underwhelming

Pros:

  • dmg is very nice, if you talent into purge the wicked you get some nice dps/hps.
Schism pumps, mg pumps, swd pumps, light’s wrath is ok
  • protector of the frail can push PS below 2 minute cd
  • shadow covenant is cool but somewhat clunky
  • fade slow removal is cool but we are still on the wheelchair, would give it a freedom effect for the first 3/4 seconds

Conclusion:
Nice damage, Terrible ST healing(like always i guess), Radiance needs its power back, no new stuff while everybody else got new tools, getting trained feels hopeless.

Because Thinktwice was on the topic of Unholy dk

I do think dot classes are dealt a bit of a bad hand in this game when their dots aren’t being applied/refreshed as part of dealing the damage. You could as well have mind blast and flay leave each their dot, and thus weaving them together became beneficial. Instead I’m stopping every 20 seconds, apply misery, then back to business. At least searing nightmare wasn’t like that. I understand the new things have some of this, but it comes on top of the dot management.

Void bolt does NOT extend dots enough, I’m having to refresh during VF sessions. Maybe it’s just the radius it refreshes in (prototype Pantheon example)

Shadowfiend could dot random targets, making it a highly desirable CD rather than a window where I need to prioritise blast, which I dread without tier bonus.

And okay, maybe it’s fine, my damage is really stupid once it ramps up. But that’s only as long as the spells have synergy like on live. You’re seeing it with disc especially, spells that don’t synergise with its systems are out.

Yeah I’m not on beta so all I can add are my thoughts based on live and what I can read.

ptr is up by the way, with DF talents out, so you should be able to test things there, although only up to level 60. :kissing_heart:

Someone mentioned on US forums I think it was, how a large part of priest identity is based on our voice itself having power, Power Words, Holy Words, Shadow Words, and holy having hymns which are large scale effects for an entire raid. With that said, I think it’d be kind of interesting if we put some emphasis on that part, and perhaps gave disc and shadow access to a hymn effect of sorts?

Also, I heard our healer brothers and sisters over in pve department are asking for defensives that aren’t external defensives. Well, in pvp we just lost Greater Fade, so how about we move that ability to the class tree? Semi kidding since that might break some pve mechanics, but it would serve as the defensive they’re asking for, and we wouldn’t lose it in pvp.
