I get random frametime spikes in the new Dragonflight expansion that causes the game to stutter. This happens randomly and each time its only a quick skip or stutter on the screen and then back to normal. When this stutter happens I can see that my frametime goes from the normal 12ms to around 100ms before going back to normal again and this creates this really noticable stutter. In other games I do not get this frametime spike, its only in WoW. Is it the game itself that is the problem? Do you get this aswell? Game is running super smooth in between theese frametime spikes.
I have tried everything I can think of. Updating drivers, running with every gsync and vsync setting availiable, reinstalling the entire computer from scratch and only running WoW. I have even put all the settings on the lowest settings but this does not help either. I also tried the GxAllowCachelessShaderMode to 0 fix but to no use.
Do you guys have this aswell?
My specs are:
Ryzen 5 5600X
Asus Strix 3080
32gb ram 3600mhz
NVME 1gb
ASUS 34" ROG Swift PG348Q G-Sync IPS screen
Windows 11 with the latest update
Don’t have your hopes up for that response, a lot of us think that one is related to the server problems and such, because it was released right after launch.
Lets hope they fix it, because even though my stuttering is just one quick stutter that happen randomly it is taking the fun out of Dragonflight for me. Dragonriding for example gets ruined by this…Its so strange because my game runs perfectly in between theese stutters
It’s not server related and its not related to the other issue which they fixed (GxAllowCachelessShaderMode). The current stuttering issue is something else. It happens whenever information about a new player is being gathered. So whenever you are out flying around and another player gets close enough for your client to gather information the game lags. Thats why the sutters are massive in Valdrakken for example, and before some complete ape says its due to pc specs being low and a lot of people are hanging out in Valdrakken. No, lower fps in a hub city is expected. That is not what we are talking about. We are talking about the stutter spikes happeing. The effect is similar to when a game is compiling shaders in real time and doing it poorly. I hope they fix this soon. It f’ing sucks playing with constant stutters. As for what exactly is causing it? Unclear, could be anything from CFG Lock issues to how the game allocates memory. If I was to speculate I’d say Blizzard probably did something to how the game loads assets or something. Probably something they felt like they had to change given the speeds our characters reach in Dragonflight. We have never gone this fast before. Something is messed up for sure tho.
I have built more computers than I can count. I have more hardware lying around than most people will see in their life. I know more about computers than 99.9% of the population. I went to school for this stuff. I have built custom bios setups for GPUs and CPUs, I have even overclocked CPUs competitively with LIN cooling and such at LANs. So if someone is going to tell me to reset my UI one more time I’m going to lose it.
The current rig im on is well within spec. DPC latency optimized with only fast SSD drives on super stable hardware. Still having massive suttering. Fix… The… Game…
You should see the player Alrightman in another thread, posting crap trying to downplay the issues. I sell prebuild PCs and absolutely all of them have the same issues, but more powerful systems reduces the impact of the issues some, they’re very much still there.
Edit: he’s in here as well, some people just deserve a firm hand and maybe learn some respect.
I replied to him in another thread where he insists its nvidia driver related. I’ve tested a gtx 1080ti, 2080ti and a 4080ti. They are all nvidia cards but I’ve tried drivers from 522.25 to present 527.37.
Since the sutter happens whenever a new player gets close I find it hard to believe its shader related. Even tho the symptom is similar.
wow makes my system freeze doing PSU test now in occt for 30 minutes now no problem, even swapped the memory still getting system freezes, this is depressing, im getting no response from Blizzard on my thread, and many reporting similar issues including system freezes and even random reboots im not getting random reboots tho.
Proces analyzer in task manager reports dead lock state on 2 threads for world of warcraft
Just came to Valdrakken and jesus, the stutter there is much worse. Maybe it is due to players loading in as you suggested. Its only WoW that have this stutter for me so people saying its because of computer can go away
Yup, it has something to do with getting information about other players since these stutters wont happen if you are alone. But as soon as someone comes within “range” of your character for some specific things to be gathered about that player the game will stutter severely. Lets just hope they can fix this stuff asap. I know we are on the EU forum were we are second-class citizens comparee to the NA forum but it would be great if they could come out and acknowledge this issue. Again, this has nothing to do with the specific command CachelessShaderMode.
Ok great. Then let’s hope they fix it fast. I am not playing anymore until it’s fixed. Totally ruins the experience for me and I think Dragonflight is great so far and want to be able to enjoy it. I spent days trying to fix this because I thought it was my computer. But since other games work fine it must be related to the game.
Throwing in my 2 cents as well on this thread, old world seems fine but Dragon isles are random fps drops / inconsistent frametimes which lead to stutter.
The closer to the ground I get while dragonriding the worse it gets (especially at high speeds) and is worse in Valdrakken and Obsidian Citadel, where a lot of players are.
