Dragonflight story is

Dragonflight feels like a middle-grade fantasy story…

The main story is weak at best, the side stories are meh…

Let me explain why i think its a story made for middle-graders (5-8 year olds):

The big bad boss announces its arrival in the usual way:“Hey everyone, I’m back and I will be the big bad for now.”

The good guys are like: “Oh no! That big bad that we totally forgot about is now back. We need the help of young bucks to help us win the day.”

The young buck: “Uuuuh…pick me, i’ll do it”

…pathetic story telling…

Also…why do all the bad guys have to announce their intention? …every expansion is the same… It’s really pathetic. Have the writers never read any epic / high fantasy books? Where is the betrayal, the backstabbing, the heroes being defeated and almost killed only to rise up again?

If I were Razagath… At the moment of my release from my prison I would kill the ones who freed me, just to show the dragon queen and the others that I’m on their side, the “good” side.

I would then be "friends’’ with them…helping them out…all the while planning my move against the dragon queen. (think of order 66 from star wars)

I would fly all around the dragon isles taking notes of all the people and races that could stand against me, and formulate a strategy against all of them.

Then, when I’m alone with the dragon queen, in our visage form, talking about the past, and having our emotional moment, that is when I would use a dagger and stab the dragon queen in the heart…killing her…or at least taking her out for the next 2-3 expansions.

Then I would do “Order 66” from Star Wars on all dragon allies, and hurry to release my other primal dragon brethren…

I mean the story could have been so good, so cool…and we are stuck with a middle-grade-emotional-luby-duby of a story…

I really miss Arthas. I think he was the best hero / villain of the entire warcraft universe. His character development from a paladin prince who serves his people to a lich king was very VERY cool. I loved it.

Sylvanas could have been even better then Arthas, but it turned out: meh…

Tyrande should have died in shadowlands…

Jaina should have turned to the dark side in BfA…

Honestly, it sounds like you don’t know the story and are talking about the aesthetics/vibe you feel, when playing. The story itself is not as bad as you claim. Also, you seem to want characters with 0 emotion and just action, but then you complain about “middle-grader story writing”…

I can say I actually want more middle-grader story writing with more power comparisons and big zug zug action, but at least I’m honest about what I want. I think characters like illidan are cool af. More badass story would be sick. I personally prefer anime “shonen” type stories like naruto/dbz/etc. I also like emotional story, but it has to “feel genuine”, and for that the narrators have to create some realism and be honest without caring too much about their p.r. strat. And yeah, this means that characters should curse, etc. There is a quote from garrosh that got removed, which is a pity, because these types of things unironically create immersion, because it blows a sense of “emotional realism” in the story. I mean I know they shouldn’t be too savage, but they are too “sterile” and orderly for their story to be good.

What are you on about ? Thats exactpy what is happening right now , we lost hard , and we have been betrayed by wrathion , we did not beat nzoth, this is all just one of his visions, whole SL was , we are just pupets …

Jk , but i would realy be interested in some numbers, how many people actualy care , or play wow, for its lore ?

dragonflight’s story is disney junior version of Spider-man (the 3 little kids version) previous WoW expansions were the other spider-man cartoons , some were bad, some were really good like the 1994 series but they were all aimed to reach to an older & more mature audience than the ‘‘Spidey and His Amazing Friends’’ show

I’d say it’s way too much like a disney movie like “how to ride dragons”. It should be more like Anime similar to the Legion expansion with illidan stormrage, demon hunters trying to get revenge, etc. It should be badass and emotionally very intensive and strong. If you people ask for a mature story, you will get something very complex and lyrical, which you may hate.

how to train your dragon is a masterpiece in comparison i love those series. Dragonflight is wayy more childish than that . i would be cool with anime style too just don’t give us enemies like razsageth after lich king sylvanas illidan sargeras etc.

I WISH , a mature story that’s not cringe is what i expect from wow these days

That’s what you got with dragonflight. Dragonflight is very mature and complex story-wise, if you’ve actually played through the campaign. Maturity is not what makes wow’s story good historically. The story of Arthas, illidan and garrosh is targetted at edgy teenagers for example, and it’s a good thing btw. I’m an adult, but you don’t get a badass cool story, if it’s mature and aimed at lyrically educated adults. Then you get some drama opera thing that criticizes society, etc. with hiddem philosophical meaning and trust me: People don’t want that.

dragonflight’s story is not doing any of these just because they added some politically correct statements doesn’t make the story mature. it’s very bland & lacks any kind of depth. you don’t feel anything how the villain feels like i couldn’t care less about how razs was trapped because it failed to give us the emotion, Arthas on the other hand makes you think if he was right or wrong with some of his moves, it was a way deeper story than what we currently have.

Personally I cannot remember a single character from this expansion, the story was somehow even more boring and uninteresting than in BFA.

Game is rated PEGI 12, It IS for kids.

Dragonflight lore is not Wow Lore, maybe Woke Lore, but it’s not Wow lore.

Ogre race is more WoW than Dragonwatafa race. Even Hozen or Jinyu.

Thank you so much for posting this.
My great-grandpa’s a WW2 veteran. He has late-stage Alzheimer’s, has lost a limb, and hasn’t gotten up from his chair in 2 years. When I showed him your post, however, it inspired him.
Something in it resonated with him.
He gathered all the strength he could, got up from out of his chair for the first time in 2 years, grabbed his rifle he hasn’t touched since the war, and shot himself.
Thank you for putting him out of his misery.

Feels klike the OP is confusing literature with games TBH.
In their ‘original’ story the primal dragons play nice until they dont…so what are we doing the whole time nothing is actually happening??
You just created a story where the player has zero to do!

Also there are no original stories. There are a finite number of tropes and every story from the Bible to 50 Shades is just a combination of those ‘oldies but goodies’.
