Dragonriding on launch day is a stupid idea and ruins exploration /immersion

Dont get me wrong i love dragonriding/dynamic flying or whatever they renamed it to. But the world feels small when u can cross the new continent of an expansion in 5-7 minutes. I dont think we should wait for the 3rd patch to get flying… maybe the halfway point of the first patch is a good time to allow flying

this philosophy fuels more into the idea that wow is less of an mmorpg and more of a hack n slash game with mmo features. which is not the direction i would want for the game tbh

what u guys think.

I think this topic has been discussed to death…

Don’t like it at launch, don’t use it?

I used to rail against having to unlock flying in previous expansions. So I welcomed Dragonflight and like dynamic flying, but yes something could be missing.
For me maybe you unlock flying when your first toon finishes the initial story and has reached max level?

I’m very torn on this.
On one hand I love the quality of life that flying from the start gives.
But on the other hand I do think that skyriding takes away from the zones. If you first explore and play in zones for a while on the ground, you get more of a connection with the zone and its contents. It’s more ‘personal’, I suppose. Skyriding is more ‘anonymous’ because you just skip over so much stuff if you don’t feel like seeing/doing that.

For the gazillion time, it ruins the immersion for YOU, while it ENHANCES the immersion for others. Stop trying to put us all in your tight little box. I am very little immersed by ground riding. It’s a fantasy game, and you see so much less when you can’t fly.

It’s a reason why some people love being pilots, and why people do hangliding, basejumping and seek highground for better views. In fact, there are multiple reasons, but it’s not because the ground is so fantastic or better at making people feel alive(immersed is the word for the gaming world).

Flying is one of the best thing tjey added to this game, and skyriding is probably the most immersive thing I do.

Stick to your ground mount if flying is so bad for your impression of the game, but don’t force me to be less immersed because flying doesn’t interest you.

Thing is, skippers will likely not even read the quests, so who are we doing this for?

I am extremely immersed by skyriding, I read and do every quest on the way. Flying doesn’t make me see any less, but it enhances the fantasy aspect of my game.

I think they could lock flying again behind completing the campaign, but that’s just my take, feel free to disagree.

Dragon Riding was one of the best new additions to the game.

What’s stupid though is preventing access to Steady Flight right away, having to jump through hoops to get it… that’s just punishing people that don’t want to use it for whatever reason…

For various reasons I am not a fan of dragonriding, but I am no longer the target audiance of this game.

Also I find it very hypocrital on Blizzard’s part, how they discreminated traditional flying in both DF and TWW against dragonriding. Same for levelling, at level 10 you can use dragonride, but you have to wait till level 20 to be able to use actual flying.

My conclusion is that if you add one type, you should include the other too.

I support the idea of enabling it from the very start, but making sure that staying grounded is optimal for everything (exp/hour, gold/hour, materials/hour, etc.)

We already have that for normal flying and i didnt fly until i got that because the other type of flying makes me feel sick BUT choice is goof for everyone and if people want to explore they have the choice to via ground mounts still.

To any1 that want to explore the zones then don’t fly.
Its simple instead of using flying mounts maybe hear me out maybe us ground mounts? So this way your “fun” will be complete.

It’s not the same. If you aren’t able to fly the experience is just different and more immersive, but that’s just how I feel. I think gating flying behind something at the start of an expansion makes everything feel way more epic, when you’re on the ground and absorb everything slowly.

Do you remember the first time you played BFA for example? Wasn’t that initial experience way different than TWW

No it’s not. Switch to oldschool fyling if ur so bothered by it.
Next.

The op threads are mostly weekend threads and is nothing more then that .i have even stopped giving them any importance

The game is now very much catering to dragonflight .ground mount is now a very secondary thing for blizzard .

And my suggestion is to change that, without removing any form of transportation.

Obviously it’s all a personal viewpoint etc but I think the zones are now too large to go without flying. Could it introduced better through the early bit of the campaign? Certainly. But removing access to it for a patch or two seems more like an exercise to n frustration for little gain.

Dragonriding has made the world a lot better imo, the zones are like 10x bigger than before, making the world feel so much bigger. Big zones feels good, it feels more like a world and less like an instanced ARPG “map” system

The world will feel as big or small as it has been designed.

If you design a world for land mounts and put flying mounts to it, then yes. It will feel small.

If you design a world for flying mounts and put flying mounts, then it wont.

So I ask you: Is it REALLY about flying/land mounts? Or is it the zone design? Let me put an example:

We are currently playing with 4 zones completely underground. And there are 3 civilizations that live in those zones. And ALL of them decided to build their structures in a 2D plane. Like Mereldar for example. Or CoT.

Not a single one of those civilizations chose to build on the walls or ceilings. Not even “spider people” which I what I would expect.

And if they would have done that, then the world would absolutely, 100% feel small with flying mounts.

But NOPE. Blizzard cant do that. Why? Because there will always be people like you whining about this very issue with out realizing that the solution is not going back to the past. But marching to the future.

So basically. The only way to make the world feel small again is to delete everyone’s land mounts. Now you can ONLY use flying mounts and nothing else.
