I’m disappointed to say that my initial experience hasn’t been positive.
Like any new feature, I understand there will be adjustments and not everyone will immediately enjoy it. However, I’m currently finding it difficult to engage with D.R.I.V.E.
Issues I’m experiencing with D.R.I.V.E right now:
The boost speed feels excessive for the zone’s layout.
The environment is overly cluttered with objects.
Collisions result in significant momentum loss and you bounce off everything.
Drifting seems unnecessary for the zone’s size.
The frequent elevation changes are jarring.
The high density of hostile mobs disrupts questing, as dismounting often leads to immediate combat and prevents remounting.
The car frequently gets stuck in the terrain.
Performance is currently laggy (understandable given the initial player volume).
I’m making a genuine effort to adapt to the D.R.I.V.E. system, but my experience so far has been consistently frustrating.
Perhaps someone has found positive aspects to share?
I’m not looking forward to this feature (still not bothered to start the Undermine questline yet, maybe today, maybe over the weekend).
Is it needed for many Quests (if so, are they optional side quests)?
Can I just use Ghost Wolf and run around doing the quests?
Took me ages to do the Dragon Riding tutorial quest and my eyesight was somewhat better then. I did resent that quest somewhat as it was a Campaign Shield quest and could easily have been a side quest for players who wanted to engage with the new feature more fully.
Tried it out once, when the game introduced me to it and never used it again. If we were in the original shimmering flats, it’d probably be fun but Undermine isn’t the zone for this kind of hysterical driving.
D.R.I.V.E so far has been fun. Some of the points people bring up here is 100% valid. I think that the zone is way to small and that blizzard missed out on not making a big race track in the zone where we could challange our guildies or friends. I would suggest unlocking the car for the rest of the world and let us just go ham and make long races across the continents.
No you can totally skip it. I haven’t found the NPC that is able to give an item so that you can some of the ‘driving quests’ on a regular mount. But meh, I don’t really care.
I’ve been having fun going all over the world and taming more pets now that all of them are viable choices. I’ll keep myself busy until the 6th of march when my sub runs out.
You absolutely can and there is even an item that lets you do the side activities where you pick up and drop off packages on your ground mount. You can even skip the tutorial for DRIVE and therefore finish the quest and never look at it again.
All these esoteric transport systems they put in the game that are generally more hassle than they’re worth.
The boats in Kul Tiras, I used them once or twice (probably because some quest told me to). The Mushroom transport thing in Ardenweald, I think I tried it once just to see what it did and then ignored it. Never used the ones in the other SL zones, I know there were mirror in Revendreth but don’t know what the others were.
The only one that I found actually helpful and wish they’d kept and expanded was the Flight Master’s Whistle.
If that was made into a Toy and worked everywhere I think I’d actually use that regularly enough to make it worth earning or paying something for access to it.
No not really. I think they tried to copy Beetle mount from GW2 but the end result is just horrendous and the car actually feels like i am playing a arcade racing game that came with cereal box back in the 90’s
Who ever designed the driving model must have been someone who has seen a car but has never seen it moving let alone been inside one or driven one.
Man, getting lost at high speed on this new map is a real problem. When you hit boost, it’s either a crash or a ‘where am I?’ moment, forcing me to check the map. The city’s just too visually uniform. Everything looks the same – buildings, colours, and tons of NPCs make it hard to figure out where you are, especially downtown.
Now I have unlocked D.R.I.V.E. I find it good for getting to rares before they die and that’s about it
I was expecting some kind of races or time trials but doesn’t look like it would be possible given the layout…
