Is it me or are the drop rates really bad at times? I don’t remember it being this bad in the original version.
Swear I’ve just killed about 60 gnolls in Westfall to get 8 paws

Working as intended, you need to kill 60 for the XP to level. If quest drops just dropped, you would run out of quests wayyyyy quicker.
you actually grind more exp than you get by quests in classic. quests just lead you the way of doing something, not grinding meaningless. its still random but the exp you get comes mostly from the mobs not the quest turn in.
Sometimes it feels unlucky, Redridge Goulash took me 90 minutes (15 items), even though it was also affected by the overcrowd. Also killed about 10 boars in Dun Morogh without dropping anything at all, overall needed about 50 to get 4 Crag Boar Ribs.
If not for the overcrowd, I’d agree with Artisan, being a bit on the grindy-farming side isn’t a problem, still running out of quests. (Actually not, because I’m double zoning already during the teens.)
You dont have to be ableist, not every gnoll has a head or skin, some gnolls are born without a liver, we’re all equal here.

I’ve only played private server so…
I always assume private servers are wrong now ofcourse but, I think drop rates for quest items is much faster on Classic.
I completed Salty Scorpid Venom in decent time, 30 mins or so.(Edit: for context it was generally uncompleted by 50% of people on private servers)
I guess it helps the social aspect. The longer and more frustrating the drop rate the more likely peeps are to group up

I know my 15 year old meme-memories are anecdotal evidence at best, but I do not see nothing wrong with classic vs vanilla droprates. They were RNG - you either got them quick, or you were there hour or few. Sounds leggit and true.
Yeah, that sounds about right 
you could be unlucky but yeah it was this bad
So far it feels like the higher level I get the worse the drop rates become
