don’t judge before lvl 20
1-20 was super boring but after 20 its a super fun and easy with cat form
Leveling a feral druid right now and personally it’s easier than leveling a warlock (and faster)
Druid may not be the fastest of all (Hunter and Mage were the classes chosen by speed runners) , sure their Kill-time isn’t high but you save time in every other aspect of the game. Druids have many strengths in their favor:
- No-down time for regen
- Easy and fast traveling
- Easy escape in dire situations
- Stealth
- Not bound to melee or ranged
- Can full fill every role in Dungeon while leveling
- Very good for duo leveling
Flexibilty is the main strenght overall. You can adapt to every situation with your very wide toolkit.
Thank you all for the feedback. I am enjoying my druid a lot.
you can get speed buff in the feral tree around lvl 20 I think
Whenever I play another class for a long time I start to miss things I can do as a druid. Like sneak somewhere to finish a quest quickly or buff another player in passing, stuff like that.
I also really like being a hybrid class. I mainly play as a tank but occasionally I heal… like in fights where we don’t need that many tanks, twins or C’thun for example.
I did that when levelling too, I started gathering healgear around level 40 and at 50 I could join dungeons as a tank or as a healer, whatever was needed.
This is my third druid in Classic, this time on PvE server. I also leveled warlock and paladin to 60 and of them all druid felt the easiest to level up.
The only thing to have in mind is that this class doesn’t scale as well as some other classes when it comes to leveling. At 20-45 it’s amazing, above that warlock will probably level up faster because of access to better gear (especially at around 50), but at that point it doesn’t matter all that much anymore as people try to level up through dungeons and being a druid means you’ll always find it much easier to find a group than a warlock.
I’ll say for casual players (that mostly level through quests and occasional dungeon, like the game was designed to be played) druid is the second best class to level up as it’s both easy and fast to level up + you’ll fit every dungeon role.
Perhaps you leveled your Warlock wrong then. Locks are extremely fast at levelling as you can juggle your health and mana to have nearly no down time, like a feral druid as they can heal. The biggest difference? You can pull 2-3 mobs at a time as lock with DoTs ticking away. Overall higher dps and no down time makes Warlock a much faster leveling class although if you can’t manage your resources you may find it slower.
I did everything right.druid still feels better as he restores mana while fighting in cat form. Druid leveling is more satisfying. AND druids got invisibility
You can do that too as druid. At 20-30 you can solo 2-3 mobs easy, while hots are healing you up at the same time. If things go wrong for you, you reapply heals and hots + turn into bear and finish whatever is left. On top of that there’s far less micromanagement if you are a druid. So yeah… you might possibly do better as warlock but for twice the effort.
Don’t forget that 60-80% of your time spend while leveling is walking from place to place and here feral druid has big advantage at 20-40.
Not in cat form you can’t and you wouldn’t have the mana to sustain it if you could if you was continuously pulling 3 mobs at a time you’d find yourself in bear form more often than not which is poor damage and if you have multiple mobs on you then good luck getting off a heal that isn’t rejuvenation/bear defensive cds because of spell push back.
Also while level 30 may seem like half way to 60 in numbers in actual terms of exp then level 44 is actually closer to half way. Travel form and movement speed does give an advantage if your questing but it’s not as big if your grinding a certain location and in comparison to a lot of classes Druids kill things a lot slower clawing your way to 60.
Having leveled all classes to 60 in Vanilla and Classic I would say fastest and easiest playing solo are as follow: Hunter, Warlock, Mage, Rogue, Druid, Shaman, Priest, Paladin and then Warrior.
My entire point however is that Warlocks are more efficient levelers, that’s all.
With three mobs it’s more tricky, but doable. The thing is - unless you are AoE farming it doesn’t matter all that much. Fighting more than two mobs is inefficent on most classes and the moment warlock starts AoE he will steal aggro off voidwalker.
So unless we are talking speed leveling (which is more like Mage>>>>>>>>>>>>>everything else) we should take into the account general ability to survive (because corpse walking takes a lot of time, especially if you are not NE), dealing with hard quests, kill time, dungeons and travel times. Druid is at least 8/10 in every category when compared to other classes.
I agree it’s inefficient on Druids or any other class except for Lock and Mage. You don’t need to AoE on lock, you throw up your dots and use CC and pet to manage them. It’s extremely fast, if you are not efficient at doing it then you’ll probably need to bandage every now and then although with Life drain and Siphon life you shouldn’t have to use them much at all and having Healthstone/Sacrifice and Soulstone makes them even more sustainable in case things take a turn for the worse so I would say a Warlocks survival kit is actually pretty darn good. From those you listed dealing with hard quests - pet classes are better, kill time - pet classes are better, dungeons (no one runs them anymore) and travel times - Druids are better.
Warlock still comes out on top.
I see your points and they all valid, but all of that requires way more micromanagement meanwhile druid is not far behind and you watch netflix episodes at the same time as you level
Also, that’s why I’ve recently rolled on PvE server (Pyrewood Village), because it has bigger alliance population than most realms have players on both sides and dungeons groups are easy to find at all levels from what I’ve seen so far. A lot of new players as well (feels almost like playing back in P1), fewer multiboxers and boosters and the leveling guild I’m in has 40+ active players online at 5 AM. So much better experience than playing on a locked servers (which not long ago was the case for most large PvP servers).
Well that is true it definitely requires more attention to level a Warlock efficiently.
I thought all realms were dead when it comes to leveling, thanks for the heads up perhaps I’ll level my next character on a PvE realm. I’ve only leveled on a PvP realm since classic launched but played on PvE during Vanilla so wanted to try something new.
To be far, doesn’t matter what class is fastest. Sure a mage is fast but then again 95% of a server is mages so good luck doing much at end game.
Level something you will enjoy, because it’s a lot of effort if you change your mind.
What do you want to play at end game, any particular gear sets you like, which role in groups, pve or pvp?
Don’t worry about shaving of a few days levelling time at the expense of a boring ‘something_bolt’ at 60!
You will get raid spot as cat dps, most guilds around aren’t that extremly hardcore, but you have to put in a lot more effort than other classes. Bear tank spots may be harder, but generally the same apply.
