Just that alone will make WotLK much more popular than TBC or Classic. That is why subs were so high back then, everyone could see content and it was easy with a lot of QoL towards the end of WotLK. We used to call them Wrathbabies haha.
But thinking about it today, it was pretty nice indeed. While it was maybe unnecessaryback then, I am not so sure anymore with the 2021 playerbase. I am afraid judging from Classic the dungeon experience will be nowhere near what it was in tbc.
The minmax, the m+, the boosting culture. I can see many struggling to find runs tbh. And TBC dungeons experience back then was the best i ever had in WoW. I donât think i have rose colored glasses (i guess i do). But players were mostly nice to each others, waited for the tank to get aggro, CC was mendatory, we were doing manabreaks and not rushing. 2021 gaming is the opposite.
Just a reminder that this part of WotLK did NOT see any increase in sub, while the quite more hardcore and having less QoL TBC went up to 11M.
WotLK saw only two increases : at the beginning, where it went from 11 to 11,5 and one after Cata was announced, when it went from 11,5 to 12. Contrary to the popular idea, WotLK was actually the first moment where WoW stagnated.
This legend of âWotLK was the most popular moment in WoWâ comes precisely from Wrath Babies who came in drove, attracted by the casualization of the game, but at the cost of a ton of veterans (going from the 5-men of TBC to the faceroll bore of the AoE spam in WotLK certainly turned off a lot of people).
(and also : the automated dungeon finder was only added in the last patch, WotLK had no automated tool for most of its content)
I think the point of Luck of the Draw was not to âreward people who donât group up with friendsâ, but to make up for the inherent disadvantage of playing in a randomized group with people youâre not really coordinating with. Whereas, in a premade group of friends, youâd have a better shot at optimizing the party and your overall gameplay (for example by being on voice chat to improve reaction times, etc).
Also, as far as I remember, Luck of the Draw was a +5% buff. Thatâs not exactly overwhelming. It was increased to as much as +15% only since Cataclysm.
Indeed. But that is another discussion entirely :D. I have not been really smart / lucky in my guild choices in Classic sadly.
I know retail is not Classic but if LFG for M+ is any indication of what we can expect from players in TBC, thatâs pretty bad. I mean, finding groups in Classic as non spell / melee cleave was hard when everyone started stacking mages everywhere. And that was during leveling, before the boosting meta came. So itâs not really a benchmark for a working system either.
I guess we have to wait and see. I just hope grouping wonât be too bad when TBC start. (And on a side note a reminder that i need to find a nice guild)
TBC will be hype like classic was for a few months and then the users will drop again. WOTLK i wager will holt itâs hype a lot longer. as there is more to do, much better raids, better pvp and a lot smoother balance than in TBC. I would wager that classic WOTLK would have LFD from day one enabled. To haters I say, not everytime you want to run with same olâ same olâ sometimes you want variety in your life, sometimes you dont have time or not in the mood for retarded guild members, sometimes you canât wait for Timmy to finish up his dallies so he can join the group. So for that LFD is amazing, LFR on the other hand is an abomination and needs to be beaten with a stick.
LFG then LFR in WotLK surely removed a lot of the magic for me as well, but I was still playing so-so. What totally destroyed the game for me was WoD release and the features that came with WoD - garrisons, follower missions and paid character boosts.
Time is one of the few things in life that when itâs passed you can never get it back. Ever.
So yeah, time is the most valuable thing in life, and some people like to get the most out of it.
Even while playing games.
Why doesnât those players play retail then? Itâs VERY efficient and convenient and have far superior PvE and PvP with much better group tools etc.
The whole damn point of Classic is not play retail and play the game as it was. At least for me.
An analogy.
We are hiking in this beautiful Nature reserve park and you guys wanna bring your loud obnoxious dirt bikes and ruin the whole experience because your time is sooooooo important that you canât be arsed to walk. Take your damn dirt bikes to the track and not to the park. Itâs a damn PARK, we only have one partk, you have like a hundred tracks.
Retail players bored of retail want to come in Classic to transform it to their taste.
They probably canât understand the word âClassicâ and why they are here, looking to change Classic instead of playing the game version they love so much.
Probably the reason why WoW lost 41% of his playerbase few months after Shadowlands.
But yeah, you think that adding modern features to Classic is a really good idea.
You just want to transform the game to make it suit your needs. Guess what ? Retail is designed to suit the needs of every types of players.
If you miss only few features from Classic then go on the retail forum and ask to get those features back in the modern WoW. Instead of trying to import 10 features from retail in Classic.
How about nope. Dual spec, Dungeon Finder, whatâs next?
Move your lazy bottoms and play the game. Invest your time and youâll be rewarded with satisfaction instead of frustration.
Do you want to pvp between raids, go to your trainer and RE-SPEC. Do you want to find dungeon groups? Join a guild, add players to your friends list, be a good lad/gal and youâll be fine.
Instant gratification will bring you nothing but frustration.
