With the release of classic, players of new and old are heavily invested on the 15 yr old game.
Therefore, those players that want to hault any creative ideas of an MMORPG, are all gone from retail.
Thus, I would propose you to add a dye system to the retail version of the game. Where a player is able to dye their armor and weapons with the help of a transmog vendor. Profession for dye making can be a thing as well or add it with an alchemy profession.
Blizzard, a dye system would be a great investment for your game and the playerbase as well. Several other MMORPG have already eatablished this type of system. So, please add them.

This subject was already addressed and you have there what you are looking for.
I can tell you it was a Video and it was last year at 2018 Blizzcon
A BIG no from me, and fyi, Rift had this also and the ink is crafted by alchemists which sounds perfectly logical but i find it a cheap feature. It focuses on looks more than a game with good content itself, so no.
So you’re saying star wars galaxies, the only game that could compete with WoW, , had more RPGR elemeents in it, didnt have good content? …
Gosh, people these days…
I am yet to see a “dye system” that actually looks good.
The several MMOs I played struggled with keeping it consistent - a bright dye would look bright on one armor, but dark on other. A medium dye would then look medium on the first one and pitch black on the other.
It’s because they would simply change the texture’s hue, but that seriously messes up how it looks like.
As for WoW, they would need to completely change the way the armor textures are, instead of a complete piece, you would need to have different ones, like basic, secondary and trim, and layer them on top of each other - and it would still look like garbage unless they would either add bump textures (as of now, they are only applied on 3D armor pieces) or possibly normal textures.
tl;dr: dye system as of now, isn’t compatible with WoW - unless you’d like it to look like some garbage custom Second Life character
Also, you’re talking about second life. But thats not an MMO, and currently second life avatars looks a ton better then wow characters… lol
I mentioned Second Life because it’s a great example of “why not just let people design their stuff completely unhinged” - it’s the pinnacle of un-taste.
You gonna tell me some lime green - pitch black tribal tattoo covered Sonic-like avatar is “ton better” than WoW characters? Don’t make me laugh…
I guess it could probably work only on new armors shoul it ever be a reality. Don’t see them going to modify all of the old ones
Thats the thingy if you only make remarks jsut because there’s no good sonic avatar out there, in second life, you’re just not justifying it correctly. I have seen many awesome and very good quality avatars out there… I run my sl on very high settings with stable FPS in full sims.
Your basing a few avatars, or old avatars, that are made back in 2007-2012 to what people can currently make. On top of that you probally never heard of UV maps XD
Doesn’t matter, bring up SL and what most people (who know what’s up) will immediately imagine those cringy overdesgined fursonas and whatnot
While that is a thing, you’re also extremely false on that, but thanks for tthe input. =)
Unlike other MMO WoW has some solid color variety of armor wholich look nice the way it is. Dye system is not needed at all.

Warframe is really the only game i played which did a good job at that. Especially with the energy color which affects projectiles, melee and powers visuals.
Already replied at Blizzcon Q&A iirc. WoW Gear isn’t dyed since BC and is more or less painted on the armor with a mix of colors.

This kind of Gear can’t be dyed easely for example.
It could be introduced but only on limited pieces like the mechanocat mount
How about we skip this dye option and make a ticket to Activision so they can stop hiring clueless / non gamers as devs and re-hire back the team from TBC ?
Literally my 80 year old grandmother can draw and create tier/class sets way better compared to these clowns who probably never touched a single game in their entire life.

Used to play Aion and you could dye your armor there. It made mogging so much better. You can use otherwise unmatching parts to create really nice apparel because the colors now match! In that game each armor set had a color you could change on it, and it would affect everything related to that, including the gradients.
I’m always for things that increase customization…
WoW is possibly the MMO with the worst character customization, among the worst at least.
its not classic if you change it
Not sure who is designing hunter sets but i want to smack them in the head
I think a dye system would be cool but blizzard won’t do it. If they add dyes then they’d have to stop recolouring gear.
At the moment the only difference between lfr through to heroic raid gear is colour differences.
We can’t expect a billion dollar company to find the funding to design unique appearances for each difficulty so we can dye our gear…
They can’t even find the funding to design class sets anymore and season 3 pvp weapons are just recolours of the raid weapons.
