Edit mode: A great add to the game

I love Edit Mode and I don’t get why are complaining about it.

You don’t need all these addons anymore, it’s all in-game! (Most)
Edit mode is very simple to use, and you can transform your UI to your preference.

Great job with this change Blizzard!

I didnt need addons to change the UI before either. Now I need addons to return back to old.

You don’t, there’s a “Classic” UI choice in the edit mode.

the closet wow players don’t like change…

they will moan if anything is different…

it will do them good to experience change, they just do not know it yet.

the ones moaning are highly likely the ones who been playing the same way with the same ui load out for 10+years straight never unsubbing.

Because its forced , most people were happy with their old UI and/or one they set up using addons . This is gone now or have to be redone . Also, u cant edit half of stuff , and those u can edit doesnt offer enough choices

That is not giving the old default UI back. It’s simply moving everything to same places. It doesnt change the empty bag slot icons to old ones (I have visual impairment which makes it hard to see empty slots in my bags now as the empty slots have shoulderpad-like icon). Also simply the fact that the UI elements look like a pop up window in a mobile game makes Addons necessary. I want the muted fantasy elements back which melded to the sides of the screen.

Agree. There is also a classic preset so the system can reposition some elements to older configuration. I am used to a new uni already and find it lovely.

Quest text is small but increased it with Leatrix.

You’d think this is the kind of player you wish to keep on side.

Maybe Bliz would prefer Dynamic players who join for 2 months, unsub for 10 months, sub for a month unsub for 6 month sub for a month see the next expac has pandas unsub for 3 years.

My last unsub was WoD when they got rid of flying.
The new UI isn’t bad enough to make me unsub but I don’t really like it. There isn’t a single thing about the new UI that I prefer over the old one.

i think they can learn from both…

but there is little to learn from people afraid of change.

i am one of them people you describe sub for 3 months leave for a 2 years… sub again for 3 months leave again e.t.c

wasent until end of legion i started hanging around the forums…

i can remember the big uproar here during WoD involving flying… so maybe i was around the forums during WoD too i dont really remember honestly…

didnt post on this character back then though.

the one i did post on is probably largely forgotten by most now, was not nearly as known as this one is these days.

i think there is more to learn from people who are willing to unsub and even play other competition instead, than there is from people who stay subbed for 17 years without playing anything different.

and no playing other blizzard games does not really count as playing other games imo…

I cannot move the exp bar, the micro bar and the bag so i still need addons for it.

Exactly this.

I still need to use the same old addon as before to be able to have my UI look the way I want, with all the things where I want them.

Now I don’t mind the edit mode at all. On the contrary, it’s a rather cool thing to have.
That said, it is lacking quite alot of things. Like the above mentioned bag bar, micro bar and xp bar being unmovable.
For myself, I would have loved a way to hide things completely as well. For example the location/clock bar above the minimap (that one really annoys me. It would have looked far better without that ontop of the minimap).
Or being able to hide my own portrait bar when out of combat (or have it show as soon as you pull aggro of something).

It’s an alright feature, but for now really lacking.

I am not afraid of change, but when the change REMOVES the customization or options without a good in-depth exploration then people have the right to moan. If i move your car steering wheel to a point you cant easily and comfortably use it, id think you’d moan too.

The idea of what they have done has MERIT. It something should have been done/added ages ago.

My point; and the only analogy I can give, is when Micro$haft went from Windows 7 to 8,10 and then dumb’ed down the visuals styles. All for the sake of tablets and low-power devices. Why didn’t they put in an option when it installed: Windows 7 Aero or Windows 8 Simplistic. No they forced us to use Simplistic without any simple or app to change what we were used to. Same has happened here, look at the new graphics for Elite, REare mobs, a near two-tone colour icon. Same for the Gryphon books ends on the primary action bar. What for ? sake of going to Mobile or Consoles.

Also as other people suggested ,why are some of the PRIMARY focus like the Bags section Locked into the far right, and now even smaller without options to change ? As a previous poster said, they have visual difficulties with that small a Icon/Click.

The minimap, now twice as large, and ugly; no controls there to size it. People were used to having alot of their visual icons for Dungeon Finder and Addons there, easily recognisable. This is just plain ignorance from the Dev/Design team.

Dont get me started on the PROFESSIONs tab, its even worse than before, all prettied up with no new functionality. Can you please add a ‘remember’ function like Elerions Professions Mod did. Every time i go in, find something I need to buy from the AH/Bank and then go back in to check again, its comes back with initial startup. Imagine that on a modern APP for a phone or something, i’m sure people would get irate then go find something better or with more support. BTW: I wrote Elerions Profs Mod for that very reason and I’d thought the Dev/Design team would take this into consideration for future updates etc… Did they…Obviously Not.

Talents system, i’ve got the jury out on that atm.

Anyways, everyone has the right to enjoy their preferred game/App in the surroundings they are comfortable playing in. Some like the standard and are used to knowing where visual que’s and buttons are, others will get addons to change what they need. Stop really having a crack at people(s) preferences so BADLY, you have your opinion(s), such as this is mine, but some of you really needle into other peoples though.

Just for people to know, I play WOTLK(Classic) and RETAIL and subs for 3 months until i grow bored of the game or find something else more enjoyable.

Theres my 50p worth of opinion(s), after reading the UI’ threads.

PS. Will not be updating EPM, if Blizz cant do it by now, why should all the addon authors go out of their way to do Blizz’ work for them. Sorry.

i think you hit it on the head there with the ui design honestly…

designed for console port…

such as switch? which only supports 720p.

It doesn’t work, you can’t save it, no you can, but when you log off it disappears. It’s dumb, can’t even magnet align, and customization is so basic it’s painful.

Whats wrong with this?

evidently nothing wrong with it.

however my point was there is nothing wrong with change…

it’s like when i first swapped from a keyboard and mouse to a …

analog stick and one handed keyboard…

it was a big change felt awful at first but quickly grew on me.

Yeah I like edit mode.

What I don’t like are all the other UI changes. Particularly the ‘updated’ skin. Portraits, bags, the art bar etc and the new ‘rare’ icon. Plus edit mode somehow still has elements we’re not allowed to move despite addons allowing it for decades now. We’re also missing access to action bar 9 and 10 for some reason which bartender allowed us to access.

I am one of these people who have recently returned after a long break of around 3-4 years. I left in the middle of Pandaria and returned earlier this year.

As a direct result of the new UI I think I will be leaving again soon.

The main issues for me are as follows.

  1. The blatant lack of thought that has been given to accessibility by Blizz over the new UI.

Just why it is that there is not the ability to scale the text within the game placed into the settings so that people with vision issues can read the text without needing to make the new UI take up far too much screen real-estate is beyond me.

  1. The blatant lack of ability to scale major parts of the UI.

I have no choice but to turn the scaling settings up to their max in the graphics settings as a direct result of issues with my eyesight. I have to turn the UI up to 114% and at that size it is impossible to fit in everything that needs to be fit into the game.

For example the mini map is huge when using that level of UI scaling. It takes up around a third of the screen height wise and there is no way to alter the size of the mini map. That then creates issues with fitting everything else onto the screen that needs to be fitted.

The quest tracking if placed under the mini map drops off the bottom of the screen when using that kind of UI scaling. If the quest tracking is placed on the other side of the screen it then drops down behind the chat window and as I need to enlarge the font and change the background color to black on the chat window to make it easier to read then a large part of the quest tracking window disappears.

Then there are all of the other things that need to be fitted into place. For example placing group or raid frames is a real issue when you are using UI scaling of 114% as there is no way they can be fit into place on one side of the screen due to overlapping taking place. That kind of thing would make healing a nightmare.

The way that everything scales when having to use the 114% scaling means that far too much screen real estate is having to be taken up by the UI. That in turn then makes things like taking notice of visual queues to avoid incoming AOE a lot harder so will lead to mistakes happening which in turn will then attract the usual venom that comes with making a mistake by some of the player base. So this will only increase the hostility that some of the player base will feel which will lead to more people leaving.

Then there is also the way that the text has been handled, For people with eyesight issues the text is appalling. No attention has been paid to ensuring that the text is of a size and color(including background) is of a readable quality for those who suffer with their eyesight. This is not solely limited to quest text which is an issue. It also affects bags, quest tracking window, talent trees and the like.

For me that is a huge oversight by the developers and it may very well force me into quitting the game again if it is not tackled in a timely manner and if I leave this time it may very well be for good given my age.

I am now around 60 years old. I do not mind change and in some ways I like the idea of a moveable UI.

I just find it very sad that the implementation appears to have been done so badly.

I honestly cant believe that the UI has been released in a way where it appears it has not been properly tested for those who need to set the UI scaling to its max in the graphics settings in order to be able to read the text in game.

Then there are a whole host of icons that are far too small even with the scaling set to their max.

The size of the clock is shockingly small.

The icons for guild, settings etc etc on the bottom left are far too small. There is no options to choose which icons to display on the mini map leading to it being overcrowded and difficult to distinguish between them.

For me a lot of this frustration could have been avoided.

If they had placed an option to change the font and background colors in the accessibility options to make the text in game readable I could have left the UI settings at 100% instead of needing to increase them to 114% which would have made the new UI easier to fit everything in.

Not everyone would agree with this. Change isn’t always for the better

However change is a natural part of life.

Hiding from it is unnatural.
