Ele shaman or Lock TBC

Can anyone help me, I have reached a total impasse in my ability to choose a main for TBC and was wondering if anyone can give me some pros and cons who has a little more experience. I prefer pvp to pve, but I would like to do both.

I am completely torn between Warlock or Ele Shaman, if anyone wants to throw me some opinions of playstyle, value, difficulty, fun, quirks and flavour of the classes etc. I’d greatly appreciate!

Fun is subjective, rotation wise I think both offer a good deal of clicks.

Locks with Hunters will be the top of the food chain of dps but you’ll need 5 Shamans anyway for Bloodlust/Heroism and if you ever want to switch to a different role (healer/melee dps) Shamans can still do that. A lock pro is that 2vs2 arenas with a SP will be cake at the beginning.

Go Warlock if you like doing PvP. Elemental Shaman finds it hard to fit into 2v2 and 3v3 arena teams but shine in 5v5 and in such small skirmishes Elemental Shaman doesn’t do well when they are trained. I’m not saying Elemental shaman is terrible, it’s still decent but a far cry from what it was in Classic PvP as people stack more resilience the one shot burst potential lessens and health pools will be larger compared to Classic as they increased the stamina budget of items by 50% as well as classes getting more defensive cooldowns which again counters the burst (Cloak of Shadows, Spell Reflect etc) and finally the spell batching with EM was patched out in TBC iirc so even less burst.

But if you want to go Elemental Shaman then feel free but don’t expect them to be as good as they was in Classic.

You make a really fair point and I think I’m going to follow your advice and roll a warlock!! Thank you!

Just like that a future totem brother in arms has been lost to the dark side. But they aren’t wrong it was in wrath where elemental was made good in pvp. Also warlocks are always a solid choice just like rogues.

go ele shammy there is going to be sooooo many locks for tbc

Have a look into class guides before you make your choice. There is a reason warlocks were unpopular even in their most OP state.
Most people find them way too boring.

i doubht tbh lock was always least played class

Lock in PvP in TBC is super strong but I agree it is boring as heck. Your mainly just keeping up dots, curses, fearing and draining and trying to keep the damn fel pup alive. They still suffer from the same problem as Classic and that’s mobility so your often tanking melee classes.

Imho if you want a FUN caster experience in PvP in TBC there’s only one class to play and that’s mage.

-Shatter combo
-Water Ele for extra nova
-Spell Steal paladin wings, BoF and even innervate :>.
-Invisibility to escape or get the jump

Not to mention strong in 2 v 2 and one of the best comps in 3 v 3 (RMP). Just sayin Frost Mage PvP is way more interactive and fun and more chance to pull off “skill” plays.

Only downside is they don’t compete with Lock and Hunter later on in raids but they still aren’t terrible in raids and put out decent damage.

Yeah I mained a lock back then and I tried to play sl/sl but I’m pretty sure it made me almost as miserable as the people I played against.
My advice to anyone thinking of warlock is to wait for Wotlk classic. It just felt so much better to play.

But of course, if topping the raid meters by lightly tapping your index finger sounds like a good time go right ahead
