Emergency Maintenance, ETA?

Well just because you want something doesn’t mean you are going to get it. I’m pretty sure they are not just withholding an ETA just to spite you. If they knew they would tell you.

If only blizzard was smart enough to invest into monitoring tools like

  • Splunk
  • Prometheus

To monitor and analyse metrics from their own systems (including application metrics…)

Considering how unstable the servers have been the entire evening in the entire game world, I’m not the slightest bit surprised they took it down for now.

Restarting systems is the action with highest possible chance of being a solution in any IT problem-situation…
Any IT professional will know this.

Maintenance at prime time on a Saturday. GG Blizz.

Just make sure your patches are ready to launch before releasing them.

Also - every major company, when they have an incident affecting customers, they have an Incident Manager that coordinates the efforts with all teams involved (I know as that is what happens in my company when we have customer impacting incidents), and that IM person is then also responsible for:

  • providing regular updates to customers
  • providing an Incident Report when the issue is fixed

I find it funny… that out of every patch in BFA to go this bad… it was one that introduced 6 Dailies and a Timegated Cloak… lmfao.

not even BFA Launch went as Badly as the introduction of a Cloak… lmao.

on a Serious note however.
Its Technology, it dont care what day it is, nor time. or your wishs… the fact of the matter… its Not reliable 100% of the time and it never will be… Every game suffers it realistically.

its not that simple lol…

Litterally… PTR is a DIFFERENT system to live, Perfectly tuned things can go to a Mess on Live servers… the Port from PTR to Live can simply just break on its entrance into Live.

Im sorry but the Risk is there everytime they launch something into the game… we as Players just have to accept.

Yeah, sure, it’s one easy and basically can fix most stuff but it does not guarantee the problem can’t come back or that other problems appear, or even worse, that it actually boots up.

Really?..you are complaining about something which costs about 1.4 pence PER hour to play.
We can have a crowd fund for the few pennies if you like.
This happens, it agreed by you in your EULA and TOS that this sort of thing is beyond thier scope and cannot be helped, get over it

There are rumors that one of the hamsters died and they are retraining remaining ones to do his job. They are 15 years old, that will take a while.
Other rumor says that some eyes and tentacles were found on server hardware and they are not sure what to do with them.

 yeah, I know the score, its just that people here seem to catastrophise everything people are saying! wanting an ETA doesnt equal chicken little.

It would be helpful to know if this is a reboot (minutes) or a period of downtime (hours) for a fix

Is anyone else concerned that this is actually the work of… N’zoth?

And is this exclusively stated will happen to all 10 million subscribers in the EULA and TOS?

You already get it, on Twitter, Facebook et al.

The incident manager is likely to report to his seniors on the incident, not you , you dont pay enough for them to warrant letting you know personally

This argument makes very little sense. Being given zero notice and scant explanation for the withdrawal of a service at a time you wanted to use it is a completely legitimate thing to complain about.

Consider how long you own a car for. Would it make sense to say that if the manufacturer at no notice recalled your car to fix a fault that it should never have been sold with, and handed back in an hour, this is fine, because if you worked out the tiny fraction of the car’s lifetime that this equated to, and multiplied it by the cost of the car, its a trivial sum of money? What happens if its during your commute to work? Its still the difference between you being able to carry out your plans for that time and not, irrespective of any financial calculation.

The cost of the sub is not the issue here.
It’s our time that is the cost here. I make a lot more than 1.4 of your pence per hour when I am working. Now I am not and this time is taken away from me.
This by an IT company with decades of experience managing new releases, hardware etc. making literal billions of $ from us customers.
But oh no, they can’t manage a even slightly bugfree content release with literally two slightly altered existing zones and a new questline.
And god forbid they notice an issue affecting thousands before their CEO wakes up 10 hours later in California.

yeah, but they might be able to give an expected timeframe - 2-3 hours, 20-30 minutes etc. They have the power

I mean honestly Jezabeth is spilling the tea…sis.

Yeah, maybe if I happened to play all day every day! However not everyone has that luxury. I’m not whining about the cost of play, just asking for some indication of a timeframe. We had some time and thought we’d have an afternoon of playing new content as had no time over Christmas and busy start back to work. So naturally a bit miffed that it’s down for… who knows!

Every minute spent yabbering at players, is 2 minutes spent not fixing the issue.
