EU forums and brexit

Back story:
There was some thread about CPU temperatures on the Americas forums. Someone said it was “90°”. I said that 90°C is far too much, that it shouldn’t go above 60°C. He said that he meant 90°F, not 90°C. I said, that since imperial system is used in only one country in the Americas, then I assumed that “°” meant “°C”, accordingly to the international standards.

I have been called “eurotrash”, I have been told that “these are US forums”, that “look at the domain, it says us, not americas”. Indeed, the domain was “us.forums.blizzard.com”. And, in the end, I got banned for 5 days for “trolling” - even though I wasn’t trolling. The moderation supported those who reported my post and called me “eurotrash”, and told me to “go to my EU forums” - even though it was on the beta forum, and EU didn’t have it.

Basically, I have been banned for being the wrong nationality.

If this is going to be happening in these forums after brexit, then I guess we need a separate domain for the UK. This is “eu.forums.blizzard.com”, so, if the same rules apply as for Americas, then British people aren’t welcome here.

I guess there is no need for separate game servers, just separate forums. However, latency-wise, it would be reasonable to open at least one Iceland-based server.

Anyway, I guess that these forums are already separated by languages. Now, these forums are “/en/” - which means English. We could have some “/eu/”, as International, or “/ie/” (Irish). We definitely need to have separate communities.

Also, English tab on realm list could be renamed to “International”.

Why should we be seperated? Just because you do not speak Dutch (i suppose) and i do?

Dutch is not a language commonly used in the UK.

We need to be separated to avoid the acts of nationalism, such as “these are english forums, not EU forums”. Read the OP if you are not sure what it is about. I did not say anything about Dutch.

You start trolling i am afraid. So i am not putting more energy in it. I expected a mature polite conversation. Have a good life further :+1:

Multi-million dollar space probe lost because Americans insist on using non-SI units.

Some Americans get really nationalistic about their “English” units. You may as well have been calling them idiots for owning guns.

If you thought your ban was wrong, you should have appealed it.
As for the rest, politics & nationalism has no place in the WoW forums. The EU forums work fine as they are and, I imagine, will carry on doing so.

There will be no mature polite conversation if you respond to posts without reading them. In your defence, point where I said something about separating Dutch speakers.

you mean American moderators for owning banguns? Because it’s a matter of the moderation - if nationalism is welcome but other nations aren’t…

However, not surprising seeing how Blizzard is ready to join arms with Chinese socialist military.

I did. Received a response long after the ban expired.

Assumption is the mother of all f…

Change your language at the bottom of the forum if you want to be seperated.

I live in the United States, coming from a non-US country.

CPU temperatures have always been described in degrees C, not F, even here. The reason for this is because hardware manufacturers do not use F when describing tolerance and throttling thresholds for their hardware, or at least list C first before F. Converting to F is more work and completely arbitrary.

So granting you the benefit of the doubt, OP, I believe you were trolled.

It’s clearly rocket science because it’s something so complicated many don’t understand.

How do you convert degrees into Celsius?.We use the Metric system in the EU and Americans use the imperial system it’s confusing to me lol.

The UK is leaving the European Union not Europe :woman_facepalming:

We will still belong to the continent of Europe, just like if Scotland gained independence it would still be physically attached to England.

There is literally no need for this thread, Brexit will not affect WoW unless it causes the pound to go whiffy and blizzard increase the UK sub price, and let’s face it, brexit is never gonna happen we will be in this limbo until the end of time with boris dangling off a zip wire over the Thames.

English is the common language used because it is the most common language spoken and the support staff speak it so they can understand everyone and not have to run every post through a translator to make sure we are behaving, it’s a functional thing (also remember that blizzard is an American company and America’s main language is English)

I can see why people on the US forums would have taken an issue with this. You could be seen as being condescending to them if this is the sort of way you responded to the players there.

Regardless of what they called you, the bigger issue is how they perceived your input in the thread which is the reason you ended up getting banned for trolling even if that wasn’t your intention.

Basically you’re saying that you were banned for xenophobic/racist reasons? It was nothing to do with your perceived tone to the other posters there?

I also don’t see what Brexit has to do with anything here, the EU forums are for those playing the game in the European region. Nowhere have I ever seen the EU servers/forums mentioned as the European Union servers/forums.

Blizzard would need more justification than latency for this. Given Iceland’s population numbers according to this link I doubt there are enough WoW players there to justify this at all.
