EU player, looking to return with a community that’s US based.
Read some things on it, couldn’t find a decisive answer.
From what I gathered, in order to play on US realms, I’d have to buy a new license of BfA (SL as well when released) and another sub.
Is there no way to transfer my entire account to the US?
I don’t mind starting over on a different realm, so I thought, keeping my heirlooms, achievements, mounts, etc.
Though this currently, unless I’m missing something, seems to be nothing more than a cash grab to suddenly say that the things I bought aren’t allowed to cross borders.
What other game / company uses such methods?
I’ve read that it was ping / lag related, but look at a game such as RuneScape, where you simply select the world you wish to play on.
Playing on a US world as a EU player is simply you complying with the fact that you’d have a slightly higher MS than usual.
The only option I’m currently opting is using a VPN to show as US and then change my country/region to US through that, though I’ve got no clue if that’d even be a solution to it all.
If there’s anyone that has a solution to it, I’d love to know.
I’d really like to play with a bunch of friends, but being punched and spit in my face, losing everything and having to pay double on top of it all isn’t exactly appealing.
There is no solution - you start over like a fresh first-time WoW player.
Again: There is no way whatsoever to transfer characters, achievements, collectibles or whatever from EU to US and any service claiming otherwise is a scam
Keep in mind: If you keep your battlenet account and just make a US WoW account inside your EU battlenet account, you won’t even be able to add US people to your friendlist. You also need a US battletag
If they’re so hellbent on squeezing money out of players, I would’ve been more than happy to pay for an account transfer.
Though starting 100% fresh and having to buy everything I already own a second time, they can stick it where the sun don’t shine.
It’s a pity, but I refuse to support such a messed up system.
They could at least bloody try to make it less of a pain to make the transfer, but this is just stacking disappointment on disappointment and making it seem like it’s a normal thing.
Thank you very much for your answers though, at least I’ve got some clarity on this mess.
Do you guys think this is something they will change one day? If I ever move to the US, I wouldn’t like starting from the scratch while having an existing account made back in 2005.
Can you name a game that has such a weird system in place like this?
The example of RuneScape was just one of… all of them… that allow you to freely move between regions.
This isn’t an intricate system such as XBOX + PS4 + PC cross-play we’re talking about, but PC with PC, which has been the norm since decades by now.
@Squalidae: This topic actually comes up relatively often. Is the search function “on the fritz” again as the latest is only couple of weeks old, but I had to look for it manually from my own posts…? deep sigh
Continue playing on EU, this time with 300 ping since you’re too far away, instead of starting from zero.
Since this is blizzard we’re talking about and the number of people who change regions isn’t significant enough to be worth it financially. So they definitely won’t invest in making it a reality in the near future.
