"Events" SUCK!

Well, it’s 7pm Wednesday, and I’m done for the week. :frowning:

Three quests are all the world content that provide upgrades, and I’ve done them on three characters. It was four back at the start of the expansion, but I dropped the Representative from Leather because of Rares somewhere along the way. (Sad story indeed, but not relevant now.)

Yes, I could go Instances, or grind more of whatever Resources we get this exp, or count the number of leaves on the trees in the Waking Shores, but that doesn’t interest me either.

Yes, I’m moaning on the forums, which I know is pointless, and should probably just drop the game - well, Retail at least - and go do something else, but I haven’t.

In this expansion, Blizzard have made all world content irrelevant, except for these damnable “events”. They did this from the start, but at least there was other ground to cover back then. Now that we’ve reached the last major patch, nothing covers up the threadbare area.

The “events” are scheduled, so you can’t just log in and do them, not really soloable (some of them technically are, but not in general), not enjoyable, and they go stale faster than bread.

The whole concept sucks. The End.

Try the addon WQAchievements. It tells you when a Rare or a WQ is up in old content that drops something interesting, or one of those achieves that you have to have done every one of a set, and like that.

As compared to what exactly? Grinding AP? Rare/treasure grind? Can you give example of a expansion/patch where world content was done right in your opinion?

I really do prefer the current system, not having to logon every day to do X amount of stuff. BfA was a dark time with the daily quests…

And if you cut yourself off from content like dungeons, raids & pvp then you only have yourself to blame for not having anything to do.

Lol gnome pfps are hillariously broken

Any Expansion since Cata (when I started) except maybe WoD. I personally preferred Cata and Mists Dailies to the WQ/Emissary model. I do recognise that the WQ/Emissary model was more flexible for people who couldn’t log in every day.

I play this game - and it is has been the only video game that has held me for any length of time - because I could always log in at any time of the day or night, and get a sense of having accomplished something for 15 minutes or an hour.

One character will now be done for the week in one hour.

It’s not so much that I cut myself off, more that I can’t generate enthusiasm. I do try occasionally, and am quickly reminded why.

And I understand that point well, and I certainly don’t begrudge people whyo enjoy instances their activities. I wish you well in the areas of the game that interest you!

But ever since I started, the devs have also provided activities for non-instance people … who, BTW, consititute about half of the playerbase.

This expansion, they stopped.

this is an mmorpg, ‘‘chores’’ are part of it

To be fair, “chores” are just whatever you don’t want to have to do, so they are undefined, and different for everyone. This is Life; “Chores” are unavoidable.

I felt that.
Most productive and pleasant casual experience for me was doing Arathi / Darkshore rares for mounts/tomg, Emissaries for 7th legion, along with weekly warfront quest on all my characters for tier 3 set collection.
It was one of the kind time when the rewards for doing casual and enjoyable things in a great setting and ambience were actually better, more desirable for me than other rewards in game.

Leveled around 30 alts for these activities alone in 8.0-8.2.
Shame this was a one time thing and i hardly have any use for alts now. The ED tmog and mounts are decent but its like 10%-15% of what was available back then.
I guess this match of rewards i want and casual activities i enjoy was really a momentary fortune…

I think for most players the biggest complaint was AP farm or just unending grinds in general like that. That would be my best guess. I definitely fall into that camp myself. It’s just not fun to have to do a gazillion tasks to keep up before you can play the game.

Using your Mists example we didn’t really have any endless grinds, you could do the various dailies for the factions until you hit exalted and then you were pretty much done. Some of them were a little more long winded than others ofc. Did you actually just keep doing the dailies beyond exalted? Because MoP is definitely part of the era before they introduced all the make you play metrics.

WQs were more convenient as you didn’t have to go and pick anything up first in order to just get on with the tasks. In SL they took a turn for the worst with more fill the bar and multi step quests.

For me DF has been great, the chore factor has been removed. I have a few things I have to do on weekly basis and then I just get to play the game. I appreciate that what people consider playing the game varies as much as what people consider chores.

I’m really pleased we have not seen any paragon rewards this time round. That felt so unrewarding. Hey you’re done with this rep grind, but guess what, how about you keep on going!!!

I don’t know what they’ll do going forward into the next expansion. How they can hit that balance so both sides of this can feel the game is enjoyable.

When it was a way to experience the leveling from 0 to max, vanilla to this day still boasts the most immersive leveling experience to date, professions there can actually help you rather then being a distraction during leveling as it is now if you want to go at it efficiently.
And when you got to max, it was a place that housed a rich variety of area, resource gathering, elite areas with their own quests, world bosses with legendaries tied to them. Vanilla in many ways did the open world better then current wow which feels more like a list of repeating tasks, some of them on a clock (events)

You also didn’t have seasons back then which meant instead of a normal/heroic/mythic version of one raid, you just had multiple raids of varying difficulties, this means that there was always someone doing some raid to generate a demand for consumables which means there was more reasons to stay in the open world to farm materials to provide for them if you wanted to make gold.

Then crafting professions got a hit and never recovered, gear from it was made so useless and expensive to craft that by the time you already had the mats to craft it; you likely had better gear already equiped, this means there was no point to some profession, demand dropped for materials to low enough numbers that it was harder to justify, meaning even less reason to be out in the open world (and then garissons came). Its better now with dragonflight but there are still glaring issues with the crafting system as is; it was a step in the right direction but some of the limitations make no sense and should just be removed outright without anything coming back for them

tl;dr I guess I expect the open world to carry the games economy, repeatable quests will never do it, it needs to be a part of the ‘circle of life’ of an MMO if that makes sense. Currently it feels like something that tries its hardest to exist outside of that circle like its a game by its own right as a way to justify it being a pillar of the game. The issue is that its not trying to be a pillar of the game, its trying to just be a pillar

Very understandable, I enjoy dungeons but havn’t touched one in more then a year
Everything feels off, from class balance to reward structure to inconsistent difficulty spikes to just annoying mechanics
Its just no longer objectively fun

Yeah, my schedule yesterday was:
1pm
Log on and pick up Aiding Weekly (I’m max renown but you get this by doing the other stuff anyhow and you get some crests and stones).
Flew to Loamm picked up the Worth Ally weekly (also max renown but it give 200 stones and some crest).
Did the Pet Battle there and earnt the Magic Family cheev whilst waiting for Researchers to start.
1.30pm Queued for Researchers and got into a group. Did this we even earnt the full 1,000 rep.
Used the Insignia from last week for the rest of the required rep.
Back to Loam to hand in, sell the rewards as the gear is only Explorer or Adventurer.
Flew to Valdrakken to take the portal to Emerald Dream, picked up Worth Ally weekly, Blossom plant 5 seeds and Superbloom quests.
2pm
Did the Superbloom. Flew around clicking the yellow dots on the minimap until 50/50 then join in the mob killing stuff until it’s done.
Hand in the quest, no upgades, Boo!
Flew over to World Boss joined group and killed that. No upgrades, Double Boo!
Flew around and planted 5 seeds, used some Dew Drops and clicked some things (do people know how to pull the weeks? therej’s always weeds there for some reason).
Use an insignia to top up the rep.
Fly back to Central Camp and hand in those two quests. No upgrades, Quadruple Boo!
Went to the Upgrade man and got my Chest and Legs up to 8/8.
Flew to catalyst and converted these to Tier. Found out about the Priordial Wave Talent as set bonus is for this so I tweaked my talents to get this.
I then flew to Valdrakken and handed in the Aiding weekly for some Insignia and some currency.

I didn’t do any WQ apart from World Boss. They simply aren’t worth it, 50 rep and a 415 item or maybe another 75 rep.
I’ve given up on Dreamsurges and Time Rifts as they only offer Adventurer gear.
I’ve given up on Siege and Feast as I’m max renown.

And that’s me done for the week. Two weeks in a row with zero upgrades (apart from those with Stones and Crests). The week before I only got a ring.

Not sure I can be bothered with my Pally. I’m fine devoted one afternoon of my gaming to these chores (for want of a better word). But we need a vendor, 3 weeks of these with only a ring to show for it is not good. Open World players don’t get Vault rewards so we don’t have a consolation prize. I know Vault doesn’t also give upgrades either but it has more chance to.

Although I don’t really want to be forced to do more than this. You could increase rewards on WQ to encourage them a bit more, higher rep and more stones and crests. I definitely don’t want an AP grind.

Personally I preferred the MOP model of Dailies over World Quests. Pick up 3 or 4 Dailies and do them all at the same time in the same area then hand those in and depending on Rep level there may be 2 or 3 more to pick up and do.
World Quests aren’t well done at the moment. I mouse over them and few (if any) are worth effort getting there (let alone complete).

Timeless Isle beats Forbidden Reach or Zaralek Caverns. You were there doing dailies or weekly Celestials or Treasure Hunting for the Bigger Bag cheev and then a rare would pop and you’d get there and join in.
Not sure if it worked better because the community was more engaged or that the content was implemented better.

Sure MOP had its problems (nothing is perfect) but I do think that world content since MOP has been done less well.

My definition of chores is the tasks that must be done routinely. You might enjoy some, you might hate some but how you feel about them is irrelevant.
To me these weekly quests and events fall into this category. MOP dailies didn’t really as you could do them for a few days and then decide to skip them for a month and then start doing them again if the notion took you. You could do Klaxxi for a week and then do Golden Lotus for a month or you could decide to go do every faction every day.
WQs and Emissaries though steer your engagement more routinely.
I may be splitting hairs here though, maybe the distinction doesn’t work for everyone.

This expansion with its events that are on timers and group critical mass requirements it feels like it’s a routine.

But wait, we wanna do them stronger together, as a family!

There is no point keeping all the events relevant because it would split the players up and make all of them hard to complete.
Also you still have raids, mythic plus, PVP and crafting to get more gear.
But let me guess…I dont wanna!

DF will go down as the “do once and forget”- expansion, since 90% of the content is not worth doing more than once.

Content thats not worth doing more than once is an ernormous waste of development time.

Content with no power progression is mostly irrelevant.

It’s not allowed for anything beside raid and m+ to have anything power-related as a reward. Otherwise this kind of activity would be instantly called a CHORE.
Wait for TWW and you’ll see people crying that they HAVE TO do delves on their 10 paladins.
