Everybody abandoning sod for cata

Feels like sod has so much unused potential and the small dev team is clearly not staffed with the right numbers.

Many people flocking to cata which is known safe territory instead of waiting and hoping for issues to be fixed at phase 4.

People always flock to the newest thing.

That’s how it’s always been.

To be fair though phase 3 is just boring. I thought phase 2 was boring but phase 3 is even worse. Our guild player numbers feels like it at an all time low which is funny considering how we’ve had to recruit more for ST. People just raid log at this point because there’s nothing worth pursuing.

And for me personally I just loathe the grinding so pvp ranks and reps of all kind can SoD off.

So there’s nothing really fun to do. I hate the raid, I hate the grinding, pvp balance is so stupidly designed that I don’t want to do any pvp content at all. The only thing left is quests but that’s only fun for an hour or two.

So it wouldn’t surprise me if people flock to Cata as it is a new expansion with a “relative” fresh start (level and gear progression wise) but I wonder how many are going to stick with Cata once the cracks become apparent and how many will flock back to SoD when phase 4 hits.

If SoD fails it is completely because of the developers lack of coherent vision and poor design and balancing choices.

Makes me wonder what kind of a clownshow an actual Classic+ would be.

A better question is, you random reader, yes you! Are YOU leaving for Cata?

i am totally cool with the way it is. i have, by average, 1h to play per day. those 7h per week are at around the weekend. for me, this speed is just perfect. for a true gamer, as i used to be 10’000 years ago, this would be horrible.
but now, puuuurrrrrrrfect.

lmao as if , no one’s hyped for cata/mop

Well, let’s see.

  • You can level from 1to 50 in less than a day of casual playing.
  • Once you hit level 50 you got 6 pieces of set that makes you able to enter raid.
  • Raid got 7 days lockout.
  • You cannot farm in many places because of imbalance, where either you picked the wrong class to farm with, or your class simply can’t compete for a farming spot because your class is weaker than enemy contesting the farming spot, or because your faction ally is easily clearing the farming spot twice as fast compare to you.
  • PvP wise all you have to do is gain 20k honor daily for 6 days to get rank 6, then repeat for a second week for rank 7 - something that is easily doable by any casual player.
  • Reputation is too easy to farm, getting 1k WSG rep daily and up to like 3k with AB if you play STV event and sit on the walls putting dots on all the players you see, giving you up to 20 silver coins / event, doing multiple events daily.

I am sure I’ve missed few points, but besides few runes that are not actually hard to get but rather time consuming and annoying this game turned into a casual boring, unchallenging and unrewarding retail like game mode. You skip more content, you got no story or lore into the game and you got no balance on top of that.

So my question to you is, how can you be amazed with the result, and how could you not see this coming ages ago when many of us kept on crying about the direction game was taking ?

Regarding cata - many give it a try because they didn’t play it before, I would be amazed if half of the players would stick to it on long term.

Potential ? It sure got potential if the devs would be playing the game, many things would have been easily avoided, many could have been improved and many things could have been added. Creating a faction with a story that both factions would hate and both would compete into either gaining favor with or events like AQ40 gates opening that would be server wide, new revamped places on the map in those unfinished places and so on. Hope the excuse is them not having access to all the old prefabs and the reason is not simply laziness. The lore from Warcraft2 and Warcraft3 could open so many gates for them to add things into the game that is just insane.

Phase 1 and 2 were a lot of fun. Phase 2 after blood moon event got fixed was very nice. Phase 3 is boring as hell.

Is boring becasue as stated above :

  • Is too easy to level
  • Is too easy to gear-up
  • is too easy to raid
  • PvP is not balanced
  • IF you’ve picked the wrong class (that’s not meta atm) you can’t farm as productive as other classes, you can’t contest a farming spot because enemy is too OP.
  • You are forced to play meta classes that you might not enjoy, only because they are viable and productive, having to park the classes you actually DO enjoy and hope they get a better future.

So overall there’s nothing to do, that’s why is boring. If they keep this path and make the level 50 ST raid items better than the dungeon items from end-game (Scholo, Strat, DM, LBRS/UBRS) including but not limited to Dungeon set 0.5 - the issue will be even worse at level 60 having nothing to do besides weekly raids and be done with it.

cata is definitely not safe territory with how much bugs there are on prepatch its a fiesta and none of my guild plans to play it atleast idk why would you play cata when there is retail its almost the same thing

Tried Cata but it’s actually the same mess as SoD. It’s a pre-patch so I wasn’t expecting much but seems awful. Dunno how it is in Blizzard’s offices but it looks like they set a timeline at the beginning of the year that they simply cannot follow. But instead of taking a week or two to catch they still launch half-baked goods. I’ll just do something else this month and check back in june to see if things are getting better.

@Ignored - Preach, exactly that!

I think it was just stupid to go into P3 having 10 levels in 5 hours instead of an adventure to begin with… And then you get free fully geared along with it.

I agree with the general idea here, I don’t think people are leaving for Cata, I just think people are not logging on outside of raiding and many people don’t see the point of raiding when they are waiting for the next phase to invalidate everything they did in phase 3 without any lasting reward.

It’s the same issue retail has, every patch invalidates the last, but at least in retail you have some collectables, achievements etc, just some kind of lasting reward at least.

I love SoD in general but even I don’t bother logging in outside of my 1 raid a week now and with the ability to level from 40-50 in a few hours I’ve spent the least time in this phase than the previous 2.

And as a warrior with talks of Rage Normalisation going on, not sure I will play in phase 4 haha!

This is Europe. We’re all foreigners to one another.
Or we’re all part of the big European family. It’a a matter of point of view.

Dunno if Cata killed it, i would say p3 and the absence of devs work did. My casual raiding guild just died. I blame ST for that. Serious raiders playing full meta with good parses went to semi hc guilds, the rest if left in the dirt.

I will check SoD again in p4 if devs actually start working on balance this time. Meanwhile i will go back to my backlog of jrpgs.

Have fun everyone. I will remember fondly p1. It was absolutely awesome.

Pretty much what I’m doing. Played Starcraft earlier and finished it, doing Age Of Empires now.

Even it being true, why is still worth a thread? This is just like bloatware pre-installed on a new phone. It doesn’t add anything, it won’t help the developer to do anything about it, neither the playerbase?

You can seethe and cope about this without making a thread that adds zero value.
