"Evidence" that Retail is better than SoD

I was lately thinking a lot about the state of SoD like many other players here.
I came to the conclusion that it is time to make comparison between Retail and SoD.
For that i took many different aspects that are important for the game and gave a point to the game version that is imo the winner of the category. Spoiler alert: Retail wow 12 points - SoD 4 points. If you want to know more then keep reading my list and try to proof me wrong.

So this is my personal opinion in some cases, and facts that cannot be denied by anyone in some other cases.

Format will be “Category: Winner”

  • PvE Class / Spec Balancing: Retail
  • PvP Class / Spec balancing: retail
  • Raid encounters: retail
  • Dungeons: retail (heroic, mythic, m+ vs. Wild offerings spam)
  • Posibillities on Farming gold/mats: retail
  • Economy in general: Retail
  • World events / quests: retail
  • Casual friendly: retail (raid finder/ dungeon finder)
  • Hardcore players friendly: retail (mythic raiding, m+ and arena leaderboards etc.)
  • Content diversity: retail (soloing old raids/ transmog farm/ mounts farm, many different pvp BGs, and many more)
  • Outfits: retail (transmog)
  • talent trees: retail (you can choose between almost equal or situational options, instead of having the illusion of choice)
  • Gearing: SoD (greens and blues matter, and being full epic is almost impossible, in retail you are full epic after 1 week of new patch)
  • Pet battles: SoD (pet battles suck, sod is winner for not offering such a useless feature)
  • Class / Race combinations: SoD (the amount of retail races and the classes that can be combined with them are out of control, tauren rogues wtf? Also pandas and worgen and goblins and dractyr and many more are trash and do not fit in the wow lore to be playable as a main character)
  • Graphic design: SoD (“remastered” graphics are a fail)

Feel free to teach me where i am wrong and please give me good reasons why to keep playing sod.

The fact is your opinion alone is not evidence for which version of WoW can be considered better.

I am not here to say you are wrong, your opinion alone will decide if SoD is worth your time or not.

I prefer retail but many prefer season of discovery. The leveling in season of discovery before the massive XP increase was unmatched.

You forgot the most important point, what is the better mmo ? Still Vanilla/sod. Nothing can beat it. You can have all the balance and blablabla in the world in retail, Vanilla stays as best mmo, retail has no Soul, it feels lonly and boring to play

If they don’t come up with some serious changes for p4 then i will make the move “go back to retail!” Even if this is meant as an insult, it will maybe soon be the better option

You forgot to mention. Graphics and overall esthetics and game design: Classic/SoD

They simply need to take successful features of the game from different expansions and put it into Classic. At least half of them… Then work around improving existing awful game designs/features.

For example, Arena is one of the best implementations in wow history even though it has some flaws but still one of the most desirables form of PvP. Yet it is astonishing how they dont think about implementing it in classic versions. Its funny how they repeating their own mistakes again.

It was a mistake to not introduce solo arena queue earlier … which killed pvp overall.

I admit i also prefer the “pre remastered” spells and models. But in the end i am a “gameplay > graphics” person so it does not matter that much to me.

Maybe they will do some magic to p4 and we get something like this

My opinion : SOD and retail are both bad. Case closed. Now give us Fresh vanilla into TBC…

For me it’s more to do with the players than anything else, retail players are whiny, self centred, egomaniacs with an inferiority complex and are far too woke for their own good.

Sorry to tell you that but on my list there would be zero points for vanilla wow (even if i enjoyed it very much back in 2006/07, even if that means that i have 49 IQ)

Well to be fair I did not read your list as you can´t objectively say x is better than y. It comes down to the player in question. Maybe it´s better for you, but not better for the next person.
Therefore your whole post is kind of invalid.

You can compare raid log statistics from retail and sod… guess what, the class balance is undeniable better in retail wow. Everyone who does not agree with that is a narrowminded liar :man_shrugging:

Raidfinder and dungeonfinder for casual players exists, you can’t deny that.
Mythic raiding and m+ dungeon ratings for tryhards exist, you can’t deny that.
Every possible retail world event is better than nightmare incursion spamming, you can’t deny that

Retail is too “fast food”. Doesn’t carry WoW soul anymore. Gameplay wise you might have strong points about reasonable retail vs SOD but SOD is in p3 right now the actual game starts at level 60 you should keep in mind that.
