I have been monitoring all sorts of forums/subreddits/livestreams and videos ever since the announcement and from what I have observed, while there are definitely some players that like the current Dracthyr direction, there is an overwhelming amount of players unsatisfied about it.
Two main issues are coming to attention:
The race looks more like Lizard than Dragon
Majority of people were hoping for a more dragon-like, strong-looking (regardless of the class) yet more humanoid iteration of previous dragon races of Azeroth. The thinner and “more elegant” nature of Dracthyr apparently caused some disappointment.
Something between the current Dracthyr and previous Drakonid could be more appreciated.
Race that can only play 1 class really doesn’t seem to bring the excitement and variety of an actual race
Through years of world of warcraft we have seen a lot of different dragons/dragonkins using a variety of elements/methods to fight (such as Drakonid Enforcers).
This seems to be another craving point of the community, people feel like when so much work about the new dragon race is there, why not allow standart classes to be able to play them? The starting zone is there, the model is there, why can’t they swing an axe for starters?
Now, if anyone from Blizzard is reading this, we know that this expansion is still far away in terms of time and we understand that. We, as a community, even appreciate if Blizzard took more time to further polish this expansion instead of rushing it.
It might be best to further examine the reaction of the community and make changes accordingly before its too late. Hundreds of thousands of players were looking forward to play their favorite class as a Dragon(like) creature, but this is just too restricting for modern day standarts.
I get why Evoker is Dracthyr only, but I wouldn’t have minded if the Dractyhr could be a few more classes, maybe just Warrior so we can have the race be melee and tanks too?
I like that fact that they are only one class and noboby can be an evoker, as it makes them feel unique and for once a proper hero class.
However, I’m really not a fan of their look. They’re way too similar to the bloodelves model, even the stance. They sould be more bulky, muscular, curvy. Atm they look like the character model from a japanese mmo
Imo the only class of these existing ones that suits them is a warrior. But I think it would be better for them to make another dps fury-like spec.
Tbh I was hoping that evoker would have 4 specs (like druid - tank, healer, 2 dps specs 1 melee 1 ranged). But I’m not dissatisfied, far from that, we still got a new race and class.
Definitely not a fan of those godawful looking forms, but I’ve dealth with worse in Vulperas before. Deep down we all want to be one of those vanilla Draconic Warrior NPCs, outdated still they look 100x badass than these as**clowns.
Why should a Dragon ever use a Sword or an Axe or Magic tomes or totems to attack enemies, when they can basically just breathe at them with their breath types and use their own magic?
If they would do that, they would not be Warcraft Dragons. They would be Elder Scrolls Argonians.
Yep. They’re not declared non-canon, or given a retcon to explain them, unlike several other things in the TES games. But the comparison was meant to be humourous, and since you seem to be taking it all too seriously, by all means feel smug for having put me in my place
I think you can express your dislike for them and find others who feel the same. But the community has a mixed opinion on this one.
Whilst people will always be louder and faster in coming forward when they dislike something. I don’t know how you can really measure how the community feels on the whole.
What is wrong with it tbh back in the day a paladin could only be a human and alliance , same with shaman and horde. And ye this race is only one class don’t mind it tbh.
I loved them the second I saw the green fire-breathing healer Silurian. I am beyond excited.
And I think the only thing I have seen people widely agree on is that it would be nice to have a Black Dragonflight Tank spec, Blackwing scale shield/mitigation etc. And even then there are some who prefer two/spec classes, because for completionists it’s nicer to only “have to” play two specs.
