This was a much requested feature by the community to have balanced factions. The downside is indeed that a faction will be locked down until the other side fills up and is meant as an experimental phase for SoD to see how it pans out.

Another topic that comes up each time we talk about realms is faction balance on PvP realms. We’ve received a lot of feedback on this since 2019. We hear you, and with Season of Discovery, we’re going to try something new: this Season’s PvP realms have been designed to maintain faction balance as they grow. Yes, this is actually happening!
However, there is a potential cost to this faction balance that we want to make sure you’re aware of: if one faction is significantly more dominant on a PvP realm, there is a very real likelihood that faction selection may be temporarily limited on that realm. That said, our overarching goal for Season of Discovery is for it to be a fun and smooth experience, and we are prepared to change course if necessary. Your requests for faction balance have been heard loud and clear. This is a new direction for us, and one that we’re excited to try.

Again, this feature will only be turned on for our Season of Discovery PvP realms. You will always be able to roll either faction as you wish on PvE realms. We encourage everyone who isn’t committed to the challenges and difficulties of PvP to consider a non-PvP realm for Season of Discovery. As an old WoW veteran myself, I can tell you – playing on a balanced-faction PvP realm can be a double-edged sword.

What a let down, imagine not making enough servers so we get huge queues just to find after getting through said queue, that you’re forced to play a set faction. What a joke

Waiting in queue for 3-4 hours on a friday evening so that I could join my friends on a spesific server: “Only players who already have characters on this realm are currently allowed to create characters”

Faction balancing is a good idea, but this implementation is terrible. We have guildies unable to join us because they logged in 1 day late.

Faction locks are the reason we currently have no queues and a good population spread. If it means inconveniencing a few people such as yourself - while unfortunate, I think it’s worth the cost.

Queues aren’t the issue, the issue is queues into a faction locked server with literally no warning that said server is faction locked, I don’t feel like this is an overreaction at all, it is just genuinely bad communication

Sure, but also put one on the queue to say that the server is faction locked so people don’t waste their time, like they did with one of the servers when it stopped accepting players, again, bad communication.

Faction queues are the best thing to ever happen to wow… would you prefer what they done to retail and make every server PvE…

Imo this is the better way to do it and they should have done it with retail too but where too chicken to try it. and look what happened there… pvp toggle is a joke only toggle on if your on the wining side or are fully geared

They only have their selves to blame though for being late, I was also late and have missed out but you man up and just wait it out

I wouldn’t, that’s why I said it’s unfortunate, but a price worth paying. The servers are stabilizing over time, the factions are opening (I had friends join 2 days into the launch, even though there was a faction lock prior), so it’s just an inconvenience for a short while.

No, use Google, read up and stop being late to the party. You only have yourself to blame here. Pick a lower pop server if you want to guarantee to play with youre friends.
