Literally nothing in the greater lore Hurts by her existing. In a world of magic disabilities are Not a hinderance.
Wow is an really high fantasy world so she doesnt change much. Even her being so one dimensional wont affect in anything there has been this kind of charachters before. It is easier to ignore than overthink. She is one of the really smallest problems with the writing of wowâs charachters at the moment. Eventhough i gotta admit they are going to good direction with Anduin so there is hope wow writing will be good again
Sylvanas should not have gone after Teldrassil in the first place. There were far closer targets for her to pursue.
It was writing teams game of thrones moment but they forgot the important part. There has to be reason for it, it never was about shock value for shock valueâs sake. And by doing that they completly destroyed forsaken lore and sylvanas too
I think this take is disingenuous. We had a lot of interesting characters every expansion before SL and BfA.
If it doesnât matter than why are they making her disability a major part of her character?
Because it looks cool? Use your imagination.
I kinda resent the accusation here. There is nothing disingenious about thinking the large majority of Warcraft characters have the depth of a puddle. Thatâs my genuine opinion, subjective as it is, and while I might come up with some characters that I find okay, I am quite sure they wouldnât be a plurality.
Yep. The Horde as a whole suffered immensely. Dragonflight was technically a âneutralâ expansion yet put a lot of focus on Alliance aligned characters and rebuilt/reclaimed lost territory and gave the Night Elves a new world tree.
What did Horde get? Nothing.
Equally, TWW is also a neutral expansion but the Alliance is once again at the forefront - youâd think with Dalaran being destroyed they might have thrown the Horde a bone by having the Sunreavers be more heavily involved but theyâre barely present outside of the introduction quests.
Well, itâs written by Golden and that other guy, I forgot his name. They were in the process of writing the Horde out of the story so they can have a good olâ Alliance time, until they got fired. And yes, I am happy they did. They were causing way too much damage.
Blizzard hates the Horde yes.
You do realize that Golden wasnât deciding what happened, but just how it happened, do you?
You do realize she was promoted to Senior Writer in BFA, right? Look up what those do.
She had full creative authority for a long time.
The way Faerin uses her shield it does make sense that she refuses the prostethic
It doesnt but sametime manythings dont make in wow. Some charachter powers and arcs are made for storyâs sake nothing more while throwing logic away
one example Jainaâs magic ship and then as a raid boss beating up horde basically alone and teleporting away
Even a senior writer doesnât necessarily decide what happens, these decisions are usually made by people with âdirectorâ or âleadâ in the job title. You could criticise the people who actually make the decisions - but since you donât know who they are, youâre randomly assuming that Golden is to blame - because she was among the few people in the story department that players actually knew by name.
So unless you donât have an example of her confirming âYep, I made that decision.â or someone from the inner circle confirm that she could choose how to a certain plot point, youâre just making baseless assumptions, rooted in a personal bias.
This.
Yes, the shield situation would probably be close to impossible in RL, but we already have tons of moments in that fantasy game that wouldnât work in reality, so I guess, itâs just up to the individual suspension of disbelief. My opinion is: When people buy warriors in plate armors jumping from airships and survive or mages who fly airships, fire arcane canonballs or just freeze deadly gas, then a disabled person with a shoulder-mounted shield is⌠not exactly a âspecial caseâ in terms of plausibility or imagination.
If you actually paid attention to what you quoted initially, I also blamed the guy who was the creative director at the time, Steve ⌠something - user. I forget his exact name. I blamed them both. And what, did her position as senior writer meant she served coffee or something? No, she was involved directly with the development of several characters and their narrative that includes Baine and his obsession with the Alliance, Anduin who she was obsessed with and one of the characters that got more spotlight time than all other characters and Calia who was used to systematically destroy the Forsaken. So thereâs your proof.
Itâs funny, you didnât bother to defend the guy, but you jumped head on, or rather charged head on into the thread to save Christy, like a knight in shining armor.
And yeah, bet your white knight rear I have a personal bias with her, guess what? Thatâs how personal responsibility works.
He likes Golden because she favors the alliance alliance.
You mean the narrative about Baine being friendly with Anduin since Cataclysm, 10 years before Christie Golden started to work at Blizzard? When Chris Metzen still held the reins?
Was she? How do you know? Is it just because she once said that she likes the character? Or is there actual evidence that doesnât go into âItâs my impression of her, therefore it must be true!â-territory?
I agree that Caliaâs introduction as an important character was not for the characterâs benefit, her actions during the meeting in Arathi Highlands were stupid and Sylvanasâ violent response to it was totally justified.
What exactly do you mean by âsystematic destructionâ though? I assume you donât mean Caliaâs help in cleaning the plague gas from Undercity? What has she done that âdestroyedâ the Forsaken so far, especially when she might hold the key to their greatest problem?
Youâre talking about Steve Danuser, the former Narrative Director of WoW (if only there was a way to find missing information on the internet, right? )
Now, with that information, you can probably guess why I didnât defend him. If you canât, hereâs a hint:
If you scroll up a bit, youâll find out that Iâve joined the discussion in this thread several times, which means that I get notifications and therefore still read it, whenever new posts occur.
Call it âWhite Knightingâ if you want to, Iâm just annoyed by people who donât seem to understand that itâs not single writers who make all decisions by themselves. They are just a cog in the wheel - whatever ideas Golden may have had, these were probably discussed with the team and then greenlit by Steve Danuser, the narrative director, Ion Hazzikostas, the game director and others. Iâm not saying that she did not come up with or fought for (questionable) story decisions - I canât possibly know that - but attributing story developments that you donât like specifically to her, without evidence thatâs itâs actually her fault, is on the same level as the dumb forum roleplay certain people have been doing around here for years.
To give you an insight why I even comment on this topic: Even though Iâm also not too fond of certain story developments in the last years, Iâm under the impression that Golden may have had a positive influence on the social character writing in WoW: meaning the depiction of how characters speak with each other, their dynamics, showing individual personalites and characters traits (an example would be the Silithus Cinematics in Patch 7.3.5 that she reportedly wrote).
Since she started to work there, the characters seem to be more well-rounded and authentic and less âexpositional for story purposesâ. But thatâs just an observation / impression I have.
tl;dr
Attack me all you want, youâre not making educated claims, youâre assuming things that you canât possibly know and canât back up with evidence.
Dislike and blame Golden all you want - thatâs totally fine, after all, taste is subjective - but as soon as you start to claim that you have a greater knowledge of what she was actually resposible for, you better be prepared that people ask for proof rather than your personal headcanon.
