Farming gold in Classic WoW as a solo player

Greetings!

I play Classic WoW, I like Classic WoW much more than modern WoW, and I am a so called solo player. I am guildless (don’t ask me why) and I don’t like playing with others, although I always try to be polite in WoW and I usually play with others when I have to. I also avoid doing dungeons, since dungeons are boring and I simply don’t like doing dungeons. I never raid or play battleground or arena either.

This is how I farm gold as a level 60 char:

I keep killing scourge mobs in Western and Eastern Plaguelands to farm the stuff they drop: The little money, the gray and white stuff, the green stuff that I don’t need, the runecloth, the healing- and mana potions etc, that I can either sell to a vendor or sell expensively on auction house. I am not a mage either, so I try to spend as less money on food or drink as possible. To need food/drink as seldom as possible, or to need as less food/drink as possible, I know one way - to keep killing level 50-52 scourge mobs as a level 60. Then the mobs will be so easy that you take less damage when you kill them, and need less mana to kill them. Plus that the chance that they resist your spells or abilities, is very reduced.

I have seen on YouTube that you can farm Big-mouth Clans for Golden Pearls in Azshara, and sell the Golden Pearls very expensively on auction house. I could do that, but the mobs that drop Big-mouth Clans, barely drop anything else but some silver, so I think it’s more fun to kill scourge mobs in Western- and Eastern Plaguelands instead.

Another idea I got, as I started to level up a shaman to level 60, is to, from level 48, don’t do any quest to level up, but just keep killing mobs in yellow level all the time, and do all level 48-60 quests as level 60 instead. Then you get more money as a quest reward when you hand in those quests, instead of XP.

I know it’s supposed to be hard to farm gold in Classic WoW, and I DO think it’s a fun challenge, so I do NOT post this topic to complain about the difficulty. I post this topic because I feel that I need other people’s perceptions and opinions.

Is there something I can do better to get more money and/or farm gold faster as a solo player? (I described solo player above)

Is there something that I don’t do, that I can do?

And so on.

Thanks in advance!

easiest way is to pick mining and herbalism (not skinning, cause everyone has it lol), you will sell what you gather/mine for a decent price. I made 140g before lvl 40 without struggling a bit. The single inconvenience is that you can’t track both herbs and nodes at the same time. I use a castsequence macro and press it from time to time.

Also, don’t sell stuff during weekends, everyone plays then and prices tend to drop A LOT.

…happy gold farming?

Level a warlock to 60 and then do solo DM:E runs, it is quite easy and you’ll be rolling in gold, I have had 2 krol blades and one other useless epic drop in less than 100 runs, even without lucky drops the coin drop from the mobs is quite nice and then there is all the greens/grays, and if you are a herbalist there is a lot of herbs as well.

As a solo player myself I find this way of farming gold to be the best in terms of value and effort as well as danger(not having to worry about ganking is a big bonus).

Please go on youtube and watch gold farming guides about classic

Don’t forget about professions, profs are important and big gold makers.

Honestly, the best money makers are found in dungeons (lasher farm/jump runs/ZF farm/boosting) or with other people generally. I know you dislike dungeons but for me there is something super fun about solo-ing dungeon content, plus the gold drop from mobs is very very nice

However as a solo player you want to take advantage of alts and professions to maximize your income from the things you farm, for example mining ore and smelting it for bars then either use it for profit or sell, using herbs to make mana and health potions to sell as well as using the transmutes of alchemy to make a profit, turning cloth into bolts and then craft items you can either disenchant or sell for profit.

Seen as you enjoy levelling (I think) you could set up a really nice little production if you focus on separate things on separate characters and take a gathering profession on a few.

Have skinning when you level for your quest skip idea will help give you some extra pocket money!

If you are really interested in gold making as part of wow, there are plenty of resources and discords out there that can provide some useful tips or numbers on certain areas. Try /r/classiceconomywow and it’s associated discord for some interesting info on things you may not have thought of.

All the best and enjoy!

If you like grinding mobs in the world I would suggest looking at prices of different regents that sell well.

Elemental fire/earth
Golden pearls
Essences
Felcloth
Etc

Herbing non prime time is pretty ok. For instance azshara for dreamfoil/mountain sage.

Hunters can do DM tribute solo

Where did you get those epic item drops from? Are you supposed to kill any mobs at all on DME jump solo runs? I thought the main reason was to rush to the rich thorium and kill only the water elemental boss. I’d be interested in hearing how you execute your run.

Nightfins and squids make money too

Why roll a lock when you can roll a hunter and do tribute runs? Or even roll a mage and do whatever you like as it’s more gold per hour (be it DME, yes, mage can do it, DM, lasher farm, heartglen farm, ZF farm, silithus elemental aoe farm…).

Making gold in classic is easy with pretty much all classes except warrior (you’ll need to duo it as war in majority of cases to reach somewhat decent gold per hour).
Thing is that there is no “magic pill” that boosts your gold per hour to 100+, you have to farm gold consistently and every day for couple of hours in order to get somewhat decent chunk of gold.

Would be great if OP could tell us what class he plays though, without class there is not much help he’ll get.

Those epics dropped from random mobs, I believe one was a Hellcaller, I do not do the jump runs that are so popular, I simply kill all the demon mobs and 3 of the bosses, works quite well.

I enter through the backdoor and kill all the demons from there, I kill the 3 bosses, skipping last one, then I simply run back reset and go again, I usually do 3-4 runs or until my bags are full then I hs and enjoy seeing how much richer I am.

This is not some super-effective money maker, but I make more then what I need and if one gets lucky with an epic drop it is a big bonus.

Also, it is quite relaxing, only issue one might ever have is if an initial enslave spell is resisted and you suddenly got 4 elite mobs on you, it usually does not end well unless you are near a reset spot or pathing spot.

Hi, everyone who have replied to this topic.

I’m not sure if you’re gonna see this, but thank you all for your tips and advices. You rock!

And I know, I should have told you which class I am. When I post this reply, I have two chars in level 60, a warlock and a mage. And I am currently leveling a shaman, who is currently in level 53 and my current favourite char of the chars on my account.

Thanks again for your replies, tips and advices, and all the best to you.
