For a zero-sum competitive game mode to be fun (such as rated arena and co), not only winning must feel fun, but loosing too.
May it be in rewards, gameplay, player behavior/interactions or more.
One big reason PvE players and new players don’t enjoy PvP is because it feels punishing, overwhelming and dated to play.
With Midnight, we do get updates to PvP such as a nerf on CC chain capabilities, removal of Addons and more. Changes I really look forward to for trying out in the live server environment. But I think a major component is still missing. And that is having fun even when losing!
That’s something WoW, ever since I joined in 2018/2019 with BfA, never have shown once in PvP. At least to my experience. Mainly due to frustration factors, but also because the general PvP experience feels not like playing a game, but going to work unpaid!
And I mean by that not ingame rewards. But the rewarding feeling of just playing the game.
Maybe this is just something blocked both by burnout and/or general disgust for the PvP systems and environments in WoW from my side. Maybe it’s not and others feel alike. At least some people do when I bring this issue up in-game or on Discords.
I have no idea how Blizzard can or should solve this rather abstract problem. But I really wish loosing in PvP in WoW would feel like losing in a football game with friends, not like loosing a job or something.
It’s just not fun.
