Even 16 years ago it was the game you described, I don’t know where you get this delusion from. World PvP in Classic is extremely unbalanced and just players camping the map spots. There was very rarely a raid vs raid and attacking/capturing cities and breaking the walls down etc has never been a thing. Even if arenas had never been created it still wouldn’t be the game you are asking for.
Okay so there you have it, its never been the game you described. So how can you have that game “back” as you said just above. Its not build to be that type of MMO, even without arenas, the game wouldn’t function like you are describing.
Generally pvp in mmorpg like massive fights are a problem. They end up dead if you require a fix number of people and if you dont it might be unfair.
i played a korean mmorpg before wow and we had 2 types of pvp
guilds vs guilds (or individuals) trying to fight over a building. when pvp event stopped you owned the place till next event
it was massive fun but the larger the guild, the easier to get buildings.
Also was only twice a week for 2h each.
was pvp in a separated room. you could play any time but was also just class and gear who wins.
overall no fun at all.
now i think arena is great, bgs would be great with solo queue and then we could get a g vs g event in open world to fight over a castle or something would be quite fun. Kind of like tol barad but rather g vs g instead of hordr vs alli
If the game was ment to be that way then it would have been that way from launch, its not designed in the way you describe.
People don’t enjoy RBGs that much, even if you removed arena it still wouldn’t be much better. Arena is not the problem, the implementation of RBGs is the problem. But how else are you going to make it easier to create groups of 10? there isn’t much you can do about it, its all down to player interest. Arena being removed wouldn’t change that.
Like I said, WoW is not designed to be a large open world army vs army PvP game.
Becouse there is a lot pvp players that have not understand that mmorpg are not for them, better having a healthy community of 10k players, that having a milion one that only ruins itself.
MMORPG doesn’t just mean giant armies vs other giant armies you know. Its an Umbrella term used to describe a genre of game, not 1 specific type of game. you can have Space MMORPGs where you explore etc, you can have ones set in Modern times. MMORPG doesn’t not just mean “Big armies vs other big armies and capturing cities” thats what you are failing to understand.
My point is not every MMORPG is going to be "armies vs armies set in medieval or primitive times. WoW wasn’t designed to be big giant armies vs other giant armies, or capturing cities and parts of the map etc.
What? we are still in 2020 what are you talking about? the game as a whole was not designed with giant armies fighting in mind. Thats why the world PvP is far different to what you want. Thats why I suggested you play another type of MMORPG that caters to that.
That’s because WoW caters to those people also, not so much what you want though. There are plenty of MMORPGs out there that cater to larger PvP, why can’t you go there? it makes more sense since the game was designed for smaller encounters rather that 500 v 500 etc.
But WoW does not cater or offer the gameplay you are looking for. Those loading screens are there because a giant open world like WoW could handle 500 vs 500 combat, along with all the other thousands of people in the world, it would crash servers.
No, because a very very very small number of people show interest in that sort on content, as I said… WoW is not that type of MMORPG. Its not made to have massive scale combat, and thus is doesn’t attract people who want that either.
Arena was added because people wanted competitive PvP that was based out in the world. People loved it, they tried the same with RBGs, people didn’t take to it as well as arenas.
