Finally tried Forge of Souls HC

As title says, today I finally tried queuing Forge of Souls heroic directly. And after having spent days doing Gammas… damn. It felt like such a breath of fresh air. No stupid environmental effects. No ridiculous HP pools - like, 4M hp on HoL bosses? Are you serious? FoS hc bosses have, like, 900k. And sure you don’t have Gamma buffs but they don’t even begin to compensate for the massively inflated HP pools - let alone the most annoying dungeon effects like mirror images, webs, and patches of frost.

Overall, I know for a thing that my tank is not going to queue anything else for its daily until this phase is over. And even on my DPSers, the extra 6-7 mins of wait in the queue are more than made up by the 5-6 min, always-wipeless run - compared to, say, a 20min+ Gamma run like HoS, CoS, HoL or Nexus.

I feel like ever since we got Alpha , Blizzard has completely botched the scaling, and even the later buffs we got in Beta and Gamma never made up for the excessive HP pools and extra effects they added to these dungeons. I’ve always suspected so, but after trying Frozen Halls heroics I’m now 100% sure of it. And I don’t see myself doing anything else as a result, dungeon-wise. How do you guys feel about it?

HOL in particular just has a lot of HP as a gimmick, in other Gammas the bosses are less bulky.

But I agree that we could all do without Web Wrap in our lives.

If you got a buff everytime you killed a mirror image or web wrap, the mechanics would suddenly be fun.

It depends. Not fun when Anub start swarming and instantly wrap every DPS.
And don’t forget VH, its also fun. One wipe since you are not fast enough to kill mirrors, and bye bye repeat
Betas are now tabu since they are full of low geared people.

So yeah, FoS, PoS and even HoR are top RDF rolls. Thats actualy fun between endless ICC rep farms

never had an issue killing wraps or mirror images, fail mechanics should be punished, success should also be rewarding. Leaving people wrapped is terrible because you could end up with a whole group wrapped if you are not quick, killing the wraps should give the buff instead.

Key to success in RDF gammas is to simply never rely on others to take care of mechanics.

Mirror image spawning? Go kill them yourself, even as a melee until you know for sure that someone better suited for the job will do it.

Same with web wraps, drop everything you are doing and go free others
Same applies to healers, you can also help killing.

Your personal dps means nothing if you arent able to complete the dungeon because noone bother doing mechanics.

As for the topic about FoS, absolutely a great dungeon to do daily. I queue spesific for it on all my characters that no longer need scourgestones.

I can tell you that as a 5.9k gs tank I have big anxiety even queueing for the Daily Gamma to obtain my 5 frostie emblems. I also usually just make my own premade group and then queue us. I am sick and tired of people not waiting even to buff, ninja pulling and generally just being complete douchebags. Thankfully my warning usually works: no ninja pulling or I leave… and then they stop… but like what’s the rush… and yeah I also agree with you that FoS PoS and HoR , whilst being kind of mindlessly easy, are a welcome relief and generally I think are okay and chillax dungeons when compared to the Gamma stuff … The HP is just ridiculously inflated, on some encounters healers pull more HPS than actual raid bosses, which is … I don’t even want to comment because I will get censured.

Mirror Image and Web Wrap can rot but I actually really like HoL. Sure they’re damage sponges but you never run out of mana.

You get a haste buff when you kill mirror images, 5% per image killed up to 30% lasting 30 seconds, if you pull at a good pace you can keep it up for the entire dungeon and use images to refresh it. When you get webbed in AN you gain a buff that increases the damage of your next ability by 150%.

In UP you can use the snow patches to remove the Fire Blast dot that also gets put on you during the dungeon, removing it with the ice patch gives you 50% crit chance for 30 seconds. The grenades in COT also give you 20% damage and healing for 30 seconds, so it’s best to plan their uses and pull to make the most of it. The holy water can also be spammed for AOE damage with no cooldown.

I’m not saying tha HC+ affixes aren’t annoying, but what you’ve asked for is already in the game and apparently you didn’t notice, lol!

Yes but when your average HoS/HoL run takes at least 20 minutes and occasionally you even wipe because some smartboy decides to overpull to “keep the buff”… it’s just not the way I enjoy doing my daily quests.

Overall, this all just reinforced my opinion that this whole dungeon difficulty revamp was wholly unneccessary. They could have made small HP/dmg bumps at most and it would have been fine. If I want to face difficult content PvE-wise, that’s what raids are for. If I enjoyed banging my head against frustrating dungeons like this every day, I’d prolly be playing retail.

Think about it this way, though: if these players are not doing mechanics in 5mans, and are doing 5mans in order to get gear to raid, do you expect them to be doing mechanics in raids?
This is why Raid Finder is balanced for complete mongoloids.

Assuming most people queue for random, your queue time for queueing specifically FoS will barely be affected at all.

But yes, it’s a well-known ‘secret’ by this point that FoS is the best option if you just want your dailies. It’s extremely fast (my record is 7m40s solo queue), easy and you are more likely to queue with other pumpers to make the run even faster.

I do wish they added gamma to the new dungeons, but also tune down the health of all the other bosses, and maybe slightly nerf some mechanics (web wrap being spammed when theres a lot of mobs, which is the case especially in Old Kingdom, is very bad design).

What I do wish is that they never added Gamma at all and, at most, simply changed loot tables the way they did without also buffing the mobs and bosses beyond belief.

I only mentioned Mirror Images and Webs, i’m aware of these things. If killing the mirror images felt rewarding there wouldn’t be so much complaining about it not happening :stuck_out_tongue:

Who is talking about raids? Once i leave instance i really do not care what the other faceless players that get thrown at me in RDF spend their time doing.
My response is to players that experience trouble in 5mans, and a easy fix is to do mechanics themselves, to ensure the success of the group.

Why do you need gamma for the new dungeons? They drop scourge stones already.

Because they’re too easy

So they follow the Wrath template then.

30% haste is not rewarding?

The entire group gets that, so why should he deal with mirrors when someone else can do it?

You have to think like them to understand them.
