Finding AD very unfriendly to newcomers

AD seems unfriendly to newcomers because people with no trp addon or a subpar set-up alone are ignored in rp by the vast majority as is- and it doesn’t seem very friendly as a whole in general. People have been kind in this thread but there is a reason why our realm has a very mixed reputation. There’s cliques, a lot of drama, and a ton of backstabbing, but there’s also super nice people in-between that, you just have to dig a bunch, which can seem incredibly difficult at times.

Avast me hearty! Navigating the trials and tribulations of community interaction be a fraught and stormy sea voyage indeed!

Good morning.

Unfortunately this forum has a problem of being a bit like a used car salesman auction, everyone is competing to sell you a motor even if it’s not the vehicle for you. And that’s the problem, you’re here to find the RP you want and would enjoy (whatever that may be). So yeah, continuing in the same vein as the car salesman metaphor… ignore the salesman, and this forum.

And any of the sites, forums, Facebook pages, discord servers, even Argent archives. While they are all excellent at advertising roleplay for their hosts in one form or another they can’t exactly pin point what’s best for you.

So yeah, get out of the show-room and go have a look around the lot, check the tires (the hubs), speak to the previous owners (Whisper people), get an impression, go for a test drive (perhaps join an event). And see how you feel and go from there. But whatever you do, don’t buy into the first thing you see. It’s the only way to safely maneuver around the different and very much competing groups.

Anyway, I’ve wandered off topic.

That people are outright rejecting you because of your previous choice of play is a bit alarming, though not surprising. Shame on them, to be blunt. I’d advise simply making your case and if they won’t have any of it, move on. It’s a regrettable truth that you just have to be thick skinned now. Though I’ll also echo that having a strong TRP3 profile helps. It’s all about persistence and just building up a bond.

I’ll not waste your time advertising anyone in particular, I’d just say you’re best off finding your own golden egg. Fingers crossed you do, and make some great friends while having a great time doing it.

I can sadly relate that I do this too, people with no TRP or anything related seem to be actively RPing, at least that’s what you can think of if you see someone like them.

But I tend to whisper them and tell them that I only RP with people that have profiles. Not because I don’t trust them but more because I’d like to RP more in the future plus its always nice to see dedicated people in RP. And to be clear too, most people that I whisper about TRP are not aware of the addons existence, they usually go and install it and then we interact every now and then.

I personally think that’s the wrong approach to take, whispering them that you would rather not RP with them simply because they don’t have an addon could scare away would be RPers that’s trying it out for the first time.

A better approach could be to RP with them anyway, and while RPing with them tell them about TRP and other RP addons, since really, the most interesting thing is the characters themselves and interacting with them, not some text about them.

I think telling people to install TRP before you let them RP with you or ignoring them for not having TRP is counterproductive towards encouraging people to RP. Everyone starts off not having TRP or MRP and just diving in and walking around, I remember I was like that and it’s usually when people join an RP guild that people are reminded of the addons existence. What I do sometimes is I’ll RP with them and then I’ll say, ‘hey, this addon is really cool’.

Ignoring someone as they try to RP with you just because they’re new and don’t know about TRP is a bit mean I’d say.

I more likely suggest them the addon, I won’t ignore them straight up, I usually warn them that some people wouldn’t give them the chance. I do RP with them for the time being since they seem reasonable and kind enough to install the addon afterwards.

And with that, I wish you a good day.

… Okay that sounds harsh, but I wouldn’t be surprised if people interested in Roleplaying would react the same way if someone approached them with “I typically Roleplay only with people who have name of Addon”, it sounds really unwelcoming and can very well drive people off.

I don’t know if it is your wording, but I am a bit confused.

He informs people about the addon instead of straight up ignoring.

The way the posts came across made it sound like it’s either ignoring them, or say “I don’t Roleplay with people without this addon”.

It’s probably just because my interaction would be, assuming I encountered anyone new without MRP, would be “Hello there, you might be interested in the addon MyRolePlay, as it allows you to add a bit more to your character”
