I do remember leveling my first main char very fondly, he was a forsaken warlock so i had a good start with basically one of the best cataclysm storylines, and i was kinda immersed up until 60 level where tbc started and chill leveling with interesting questlines transformed into chorefest where every quest had a goal of making me kill mobs and picking quest items for as long as possible, magnitude of my relieve when i finally got through tbc zones and hit wotlk was MASSIVE, and vanilla shares same design decisions with tbc, they were very close to each other production-wise.
So yeah, i will never understand this eternal “admiring” of vanilla as some wow’s deity, it basically means nothing to me.
And i do understand necessity of focusing on endgame part for this type of game.
If you started in Cata I understand that yeah. I think it’s different for those who played vanilla when that was all there was, and it wasn’t a stepping stone to other expansions yet.
Personally I didn’t like TBC, I felt they went a different way entirely and something about the world got lost that was very present in vanilla. Interestingly enough I was pretty sure it was just nostalgia until I played Classic and realised it was truly special and immersive as an experience once again, for me. I do get it’s not for everyone tho, even more so for those who joined WoW later.
Nah, i started much later, basically legion pre patch. I guess my perception is really different.
Literally none of the Aspects are the warmongering types. Why would they shoot themselves in the foot by choosing Neltharion 2.0?
Didn’t they consider something like that in Vanilla for Duskwood but ended up scrapping it because they didn’t want to add up more pointless mechanics? From gameplay perspective it really makes sense to make dark places bright enough to see just for player’s convenience.
I think they considered that even afterwards but scrapped it for the same reasons. Plus not every race has the same eyes. Like said darkness wouldnt affect worgen, some forsaken (if not all) and most certainly not demon hunters.
Eh it would probably also barely affect Blood Elves who are more highly attuned to the Arcane and with how much living dead walks around the magic must be ripe there, even based on class it would be difficult since again Mages can to a degree feel/see magic, druid can have acute senses in the animal form, Shamans have the elementals aid and Spirits they can communicate with so on and so forth
Yeah pretty much. Not exactly sure about Elves since not every elf is that highly attuned and your eye colour comes mainly from you being magic addicts.
Hey even High Elves still suck on magic from Sunwell (despite not doing much to fix it lazy, hypocritical bastards). All elves in the end are Arcane mutations of Trolls so I’d say being attuned to magic even if they’re not actively abuse it or discarded its use like Night Elves.
How interesting, I didn’t know that. I guess it explains why Duskwood seemed to me to be darker than most other zones at the time. I guess they went sort of halfway?
