Is it considered rude players to swoop in and start fishing a pool when someone is fishing it already?
I spent an hour on Saturday morn flying around the pools, fishing away. If i saw someone else there already, I’d just move on. Then another player started to swoop in and fish the same pools. Sometimes they’d just drop in for the last fish. Have to say it got pretty damned annoying. Aren’t there enough pools around to just move on to the next empty one?
I’m pretty sure if the shoe was on the other foot - they’d be thinking the same.
For me fishing is a chill moment in WoW and everyone likes to do their own thing without being followed about or harassed.
Or is this just the game/world we live in and everyone takes what they want and to hell with anyone else?
Wishing for a better world.
It’s possible they just don’t know. Last night I learned that because normally I basically never see people fish and it turns out I’d stolen one off of someone. I ended up apologising with thalassian as she was a blood elf.
You could let them know that this is how it works, not everyone means to do it.
On balance I also prefer to give people space / not cast into “their” pool.
Fishing exudes the “I’m chilling in my own space” vibe and people landing next to you bursts that bubble.
Yes, its only etiquette, I’m not sure the thought even enters most peoples minds though, its all about them.
Doing the Fishing Derby earlier sucked… wasting Regal Dotties on Royal Ripples for others to exhaust it before I could get the damn Queen Lure… took almost an hour to get the bloody thing to turn in the quest.
Ooooh learned something new today! Didn’t know you couldn’t share pools. Been just fishing in normal water while I read the forums or guides but now that I know it’ll keep me from accidentally upsetting others. Thank you^^
@Dejarous
My sentiments exactly.
@Beerwolf
Such a shame - the Derby sounded like it could be fun. I did wonder if it would be frustratingly chaotic.
@Fishy
The pools guarantee you a proper fish instead of spending endless hours in open water as you used to have to do. There is 4/5 fish per pool so if someone drops in… you’re sharing essentially.
I just think its nice to be considerate to others, but its seems you won’t always get the same treatment.
I’m gonna keep doing me regardless!
Oh yeah I know pools are better but I like fishing (using the better fishing addon with the cast key rerouted to my mouse) while I read this forum, wow guides or watch a youtube video x) when I am active fishing I definitely go for the pools, but other than that I have my effect noises up way loud so I hear the splash of the bobber so I can reel in whatever I caught Multi-tasking ftw!
It’s better to do it than not. People appreciate it, even if they don’t say it.
I will always avoid touching a fish pool, which is being used by another player. But I do sometimes get random players who will go to the same pool as me, but there is no rule against it.
Sure, it may be a bit annoying, if you’re after a fish for the weekly fishing quest.
As others have said, there’s no rule against it but it’s something that just ‘wasn’t done’ back in the early days.
I’ve never done it to anyone else but have had people do it to me. I don’t say anything, but also I don’t move to give them more room. If only characters could glare, they wouldn’t stay very long.
You could twist it; Is it being overconsiderate to think about this?
I think yes; and no. Like so much else in life; like holding open a door for someone - it’s not a rule, but you’re considered nicer than someone who does not.
I do both; sometimes I skip a puddle - sometimes I also fish there. It depends what, when, where, why.
You can type /glare.
Perhaps a lot of those that swoop in on your (general your) pool’s are like me and had no idea they aren’t shared. So they’re not doing it to troll, annoy or otherwise upset anyone, it’s simply not knowing. And there’s a whole darn lot not to know in a 20 year old game xD
Edit: I derped, this was supposed to be a general reply, not a reply to a specific person (Náia!)
Fish pools, leave it to who is there first
Treasure pool, fair game.
still trying to get the 5 fish to get the compagnion, but no way that type of fish will get on my hook.
Normally i’ll fly away if someone is fishing in a pool, but if i can see they are bots, swoop in and fish
in general yes, I skip over pools that are already being fished in. I don’t like when people try and “steal” my pools so I don’t do it to them. However like for example last night with the fishing derby we needed a royal ripple pool for a specific fish. I spent ages flying around in azj-kahet trying to find them and there were none up whatsoever, meanwhile my time was ticking away. So when I finally did find one that was already being fished in, I also fished in that one. If the pool is more rare and it’s timegated, then yes I understand the pools being shared. But open world fishing without a timeslot, then please stay away from my pools
I wouldn’t feel good if I did it, but during the Fishing Derby I’d probably not hesitate to try and fish from a pool even if there is someone there already. That is just a result of pools being limited and the one hour timer. (I did the event at 2am, so this wasn’t an actual thing I needed to do.)
It’s yet another game design that incentivizes and rewards anti-social behavior that causes players to feel resentful toward others. I believe this is deliberate, though, as strong negative emotion strengthens attachment more powerfully than positive emotion.
I leave others to their pools and secretly get a bit miffed if someone dips into my pool. Not too bad now, but there was a phase of opposite faction kiddies water-walking on your float. The fishing add-ons makes it much better now that you don’t have to click your float.
It was a thing since forever: don’t fish in someone else’s spot.
So yeah, I don’t do it and get slightly annoyed when people do it to me. If I’m grumpy I might do a /sigh or a /shoo at them.
Not that there is a rule, bit like in traffic as there are also things that aren’t in the rules but if we’d be more considerate and give others more space we’d all have a better time driving.

does that actually work?
Does the opposite for me and puts me off.
I think its fair enough to share in a timed event - just would like to see fishing remain a calm and chilled game past time is all
