For those on macOS (Mac Mini 2018)

Anyone playing classic using a Mac Min 2018 and if so what is the performance like? I am using my PC at the moment but I do a lot on macOS, would be nice if it worked well on that to save me switching back and forth.

Playing on a iMac (27-inch, Late 2013, 3.5ghz i7, 8gb RAM, 4gb GeForce GTX 780m), and fullscreen, 60fps solid on 5/10 settings, but windowed mode, solid 60fps on 10/10 graphics slider.

I play on a MacBook pro 2019 (13") from work. Solid 60fps medium settings

Thanks, going to install on the Mini this weekend and see how it goes.

I’m also on a 2019 13” MacBook Pro, runs just fine medium settings as above. The fan kicks in sometimes, but for an all metal computer, I’d expect it.

Definitely get better performance on a MBP, the graphics are better than than the desktop CPU in the MM 2018.

When away from home desktop I am running it fine on mid 2012 MacBook Pro 13 inch with 500 Gb ssd and 8Gb ram so your mini will be ok.

So tried it, 60 FPS at settings of 3, 45 FPS at 5. Not bad, playable and that is all I was looking for. The Mac Mini is no powerhouse in the graphics area but I wasn’t expecting it to be. Just saves me having to fire up the PC and switch all the time.

Will probably get an eGPU once I figure out what is the best option.

I use a Mac mini 6 core i7 running at 3.2 with 16 gig Ram and a 256 gig SSD

It was not cheap and it is a very very good machine

It’s a fast system but the onboard graphics won’t give details above 3/10 - not that you would really notice on Classic - draw distance can be a little limited on Retail

That said I just have not gotten round to setting up the Black Diamond thunderport 3 external GPU

And that’s because I have the mini behind a 50” screen sat behind the dining room table and need to mount it properly

They are very good machines - very fast and very low latency because you
Don’t need the same level of anti-virus and windows 10 background services running in the background

But my mini was ÂŁ1400 and the external GPU ÂŁ600

You can get one hell of a windows gaming machine for that money

I just prefer Mac OS - Mojave is ultra cool and stable

I bought my son a MacBook Pro when I bought my Mini - he uses it for music recording and insisted on the latest version of logic

I tried to convince him to go with a fully upgraded Mac mini - which would cost the same - but he wanted portability

It’s a great machine - but I think if you have a static location a high spec Mac mini is a better option

I am a PHP developer, macOS is just the best option for my day job. I have the new i7, 32gb Ram and 1TB NVMe. It’s great but the graphics just suck balls…

I assume you meant Black Magic eGPU?

SSAO is particularly heavy. You can probably run at 60fps if you don’t mind it turned off

Probably - I’ve had the thing for 6 months and not used it because I cant quite fit it behind the TV

I am assured it is plug and play

I used to build windows machines for the boys when they were younger - this technology fascinates me constantly

A far cry from my first machine - a ZX80

Though that processor was at the heart of the space shuttle

All off topic I know - let’s say I am a big fan of the Apple MacMini if you spend the money on an upgraded unit

I do play on a mac mini i7 but i got a eGPU connected to it, runs perfect thought

Buy eGPU and enjoy your Mac mini.

^^ which eGPU?

The only thing stopping me buying one is not knowing enough about them.

Needs to run two monitors, the BlackMagic (cheaper one) is only good for one. Although I see they have a cheaper (of course less powerful graphics) sonnet that can handle multiple monitors.

I was hoping the lower spec unit I bought would run 6 or 7 of 10 - how do you find it?

I always set graphics at max 60 FPS - no point in any more

for Macbook pro users I scaled down resolution to 1080p and lowered shadows to low and particle density to low (which there’s almost no difference with high). Constant 60 fps with vsync without a drop.

im playing on mac airbook i bought in 2012 and its all running fluent 30fps+ all the time
