[Forsaken/Undead RP] The Morbid Moot

IC:

“It will return. From the crumbling, rotten marble, we will rebuild it all with our own bones, if we must—the great spires of Lordaeron. I know I have a femur or two lying around…”

~ Forsaken mason, overheard in Brill

There’s a gentle stir in the Forsaken network. Like the strings of a spider’s web, spurring its weaver to action at even the slightest vibration. Almost soundless, barely felt—yet to the spider, pregnant with the promise of something arrived.

Leaflets are left at Forsaken-owned shops and establishments. Posters, ink still wet, are nailed to local warboards. To their fellow unliving man or woman, the occasional kinsman approaches another and offers similar articles to them. “Come and see,” they speak stiffly in the venomous tongue of Gutterspeak. An inviting, if mirthless smile tugs at the corners of their sullen, decaying lips. “Come and speak.”

The leaflets bear the sigil of the Icon of Torment, and below its cracked mask awaits an invitation, written in Gutterspeak:

TO THE FORSAKEN OF LORDAERON

JOIN YOUR BRETHREN ON THE NINETEENTH DAY OF OCTOBER, ON THE TWENTIETH HOUR

IN THE GLOOM OF DEATHKNELL

FOR DISCUSSION & DEBATE, FOR MEETING & REKINDLING

WHETHER DEATHGUARD, CLERIC, APOTHECARY, SCRIBE, MERCHANT

ALL FORSAKEN & THOSE CONCERNED ARE SUMMONED & WELCOME

TO HELP STRENGTHEN & UNIFY IN THESE UNCERTAIN TIMES

REFRESHMENTS, GUIDANCE, STIMULATION & BLESSINGS SHALL BE PROVIDED

COME AND SEE - COME AND SPEAK

YOU ARE FORSAKEN, BUT NOT ALONE.

The Morbid Moot is a platform conceived for the sole purpose of discussing purpose. In a time when the future of the Forsaken is shrouded in shadows, this forum serves not only to give the people their chance to air their concerns and ask hard questions, but to provide a foundation for where strangers may meet; whether newly risen or an old hand of the Glades, from units and organizations who have not yet crossed paths, and everything in between.

Here, the people may openly review the tragic history of the Kingdom, and learn from those who survived… or not quite. The appearance of new lands fraught with threats demands consideration for the next move at present and expectations for the future are scrutinized in grim company. Efforts to re-establish and reconnect with the twisted Forsaken culture will be made, and activities to stimulate the precious limited senses and mind can be organized.

So come, ye restless. Come and chisel your name into the Memorial of Members. We shall all lie again in the same soil…

OOC:

Hail to the dead! We have the pleasure of finally revealing this little project of ours—it’s a little like putting a little sailboat in the river and praying it doesn’t sink, but we’re very optimistic about the work we have put in to make something that’ll bring Forsaken together from every corner of the world, regardless of their background!

Let’s talk business…

Why is this a thing?

From what we’ve observed, there’s a schism in today’s Forsaken roleplaying scene, regarding the lore having turned the kingdom upside-down on its head. Some might celebrate this direction, while others are really confused as to what’s going on, and that leaves the community as a whole a little scattered.

I am hoping that with this initiative, we are able to bridge the many different characters and their nuanced takes into one big melting pot of fierce opinion, staunch principles and otherwise; one where in the lack of anything supporting a narrative of a people conflicted, might be a platform for people to voice their exaltation, frustration, anything in-between.

Ultimately, the purpose of this project is really to bring us all together and… roleplaying! We are using social necromancy in order to bring some life back into that community feel, and connect player characters, while hopefully also providing a foundation for new players to meet people and get started on their roleplaying journey in a friendly environment. We are really hoping you will give it a chance!

How does this work?

The main undertaking of this forum is exactly as the name suggests; there will be an agenda with items for participants to discuss and debate about, and we will give people a chance to voice their concerns, inform others about their current endeavors and many, many other things big and small.

The agenda in question mainly consists of items for debate from player characters, and the organizers will fill in the blanks in the event that there’s a shortage of topics. It is estimated to go on for 2 hours and 30 minutes (this is subject to change!)

The topics will be headed by the player character bringing it to the forum, and thus must be registered as a Speaker for the day. In order to keep the event manageable, we’d like to ask Speakers to sign up with their respective topics beforehand. You can sign up using the template below;

Speaker Sign-up

Name: Bones McBones

Topic: Why No Val’kyr??

Each Speaker will have the word for 20-30 minutes. This is in order to avoid a situation where we could talk well into the next day before the forum comes to a close.

There will be a limit of 4-5 Speakers and their topics each session, and we are hoping Speakers will prepare their speeches ahead of time, should they be appointed.

Each forum session will start with a culturally relevant activity—think of anything as light-hearted as a shared hymn, to something more thrilling like a duel between knights—and follows up with the Speakers in the order they’ll have signed up.

Each Speaker will have a few moments to make their topic and point known, and then there’ll be some time to answer questions from the crowd. The organizers will assist the active Speaker in receiving questions in an orderly fashion, so that they don’t drown in inquiries.

Please note that player characters are by no means expected to sit through the entire forum process if they do not want to; accommodations are made to let characters take a break and enjoy some social roleplay amongst each other, and there will be refreshments and the possibility of more activity after the forum’s conclusion.

We will be taking record of the day’s “sitting”, and post a full summary of everything said at the Forum after its conclusion, so you won’t miss out on a thing!

Are there any rules?

From the OOC point of view, we only ask that players observe respectful conduct between attendees and that you please enjoy yourselves. Remember; this format runs the risk of player characters getting into heated discussion, so remember to keep IC and OOC separate! Any verbal attack or scalding remark made upon your character does not reflect a personal dig made at you, the player. So we advise that you be your best self!
There are some IC rules for participants to keep in mind for the day;

  • Do not in any way disrupt the Forum proceedings.
  • Unwarranted violence against fellow participants is prohibited.
  • Disputes to be resolved through duels between participants must be agreed between the parties in question, and proceed outside the grounds of the Forum.
  • Outright seditious discourse, whether against the standing Forsaken order or the Horde faction, will not be tolerated.

Any violation of these rules could result in the perpetrating participant’s banishment from future moots, and their name stricken from the Memorial of Members.

When and where?

What: The Morbid Moot
When: 19th of October, 20:00 realm time
Where: Shadow Grave, Deathknell, Tirisfal Glades

We will already be “setting up” the event IC an hour before schedule and welcome new arrivals, so feel free to drop by and hang around!

Lastly, we really hope that you will give this a try, and we will happily receive any questions or suggestions, either by contacting Lakeworth or Hangart in-game, or writing on this very thread!

Lordaeron endures, my kindred. :skull:

A giant slab of onyx, dark as the night and seemingly impossible to move by conventionally physical means, attends the Morbid Moot. It is roughly hewn into the shape of a headstone, and its engravings nigh dissapear in its gloomy surroundings. Yet should one squint, it is as if the text springs right into the eye of the beholder:

THE MEMORIAL OF MEMBERS
May their names ever remain
on the lips of those that endure

Sir Hangart Helmar
Inquisitor Leopold Lakeworth

There is an abundance of space left.

My favourite part of the Morbid Moot was when Hangart said “It’s Morbing time”, and then he morbed all over everyone.

Hoping big success for the moot!

I’ll be there. Tempted to do a speech, but I’m terrible at speeches both IC and OOC.

You should never feel any obligation or expectation of formulating any “grand” manner of speech - the format supports ANYONE’S chance to speak, and whether those people are incredibly well-versed orators or people of few words, I think it is a bit misleading from our side to have people think that Speakers are meant to formulate spectacular statements.

That is to say; you can present your point in any manner you see fit. It’s possible to say of the undead state of odour: “Good people, I lament that the stench of our rotting flesh should rebuke any and all interaction from our mortal allies. Is it immoral that we not habitually perfume ourselves, as to not cause upset?” … and then to make the exact same proclamation considerably shorter: “My friend says I smell. That stinks. Discuss.”
