FPS in Eternal Palace dropping to 2-5

Right, I already know a lot of people are having issues in Eternal Palace with FPS dropping to an all time low (no, you don’t have issues if you have 60FPS but usually have 80 imho) Mine drops to 2, and that’s if I’m lucky. I think most people understand that 2-5 fps isn’t something you can do progression raiding on.

I have had the same PC setup for about a year, GPU is only 7 months.

i5-7600K CPU @ 3.80GHz
GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
16 DDR4 Ram
Windows 10 (DirectX 12)

I have Progressed in every single raid tier in the game.
I did Mythic BoD (which is only a few weeks ago) with all my settings at high/ultra with absolutely no issues. I do everything in game with around 80+ FPS and settings on 8. When 8.2 hit, I still had no issues. NONE.
I don’t even have the screen flickering that a lot of people suffer from atm.

I ONLY have problems in Eternal Palace, and even in here there’s several places I do just fine with my normal settings

On Normal: = Ashvane has to be done with all settings on 1 and no addons. Azshara is impossible to do regardless of what I do. The rest of the bosses are perfectly fine with normal settings (7-8) and high memory addons running.

On Heroic: = Ashvane has to be done with all settings on 1 and no addons, and I still struggle when new coral pops. On Za’qul I get a massive drop in FPS when he pops his big Shield (everytime he does it) I am yet to see Azshara, as FPS drops to a screenshot. (0)

On Mythic: = Sivara has me on my knees with 5-6 FPS as soon as we pull, and the overwhelming Barrage makes me drop to 2 FPS. I am obviously not getting to see other bosses as I’m a liability in raids with this issue.

Here is what I have tried to do in order to fix everything:

  • Raiding with only DBM or BW (not much fun but lets face it, you need it for raiding)

  • All settings on 1 (no particle density, projected textures, shadow quality or liquid details)

  • Tried to run the repair tool and completely reset my UI.

  • I’ve tried pulls on Ashvane and Azshara with all possible combinations of DirectX 11, 11 legacy and 12 ( run 12 with W10) with all combinations of the latest 3 drivers from Nvidia (incl yesterdays). Some combos were really bad, NO combo was decent in regards to the problem.

When none of these things fixed it:

  • I have done a complete clean and reinstalled all addons and made new saved variables (in case a file was corrupted) Deleted Interface and WTF folder and Cache.

  • I have completely reinstalled the entire game (in case a 8.2 patch file was corrupted)

  • I have raided on 3 different internet connections (cable to neighbour and on my Mobile Data)

  • I’ve run a stress test on my GPU for almost an hour, the card isn’t even blinking (as in doesn’t really care about my test cos nothing is wrong and it scores really high without even getting really warm)

  • I do NOT combat log.

  • I have had my internet provider check the connection twice now, and they are not detecting any issues (the tech guy plays WoW and made an extra effort, just for a fellow player)

I really hope there’s someone out there with an idea as to what I can do/try next.
At this rate, I’m losing my spot on the team (if I don’t give up and leave first that is) I play this game 100% for the raiding, and it’s the one thing I can’t do now.

Anyone ? (especially Blizzard)

I’m having the same issue, tried to lower all settings to one doesn’t help much.

Same here…even with every setting at low…2k euros pc…

Do you see similar effects (on smaller scale but still noticeable on the FPS meter) if you go to a cave with semitransparent fog and put it in/out of your whole field of view? Eternal Palace could use similar effects and if they are implement same way they will cause big FPS drops on some GPUs (likely a memory or pixel fill rate bandwidth limit).

Hi, I have no idea, can you point me in the direction of such a cave so I can test it ? Thing is, we’re actually 6 people using the 1060 gtx and 2 using the 1060 ti, 1 with ti and 2 with gtx has the issue, so we need a solution really. I’m the one that’s hit the hardest though for some odd reason.

Xibala cave in Zuldazar: https://youtu.be/wyAmZ4O0jSI?t=277

Just put as much of that fog in your field of view, rotate the camera all around and see what the FPS will be. MSI Afterburner could be handy to monitor average and 1% low FPS. Full description on https://rk.edu.pl/en/benchmarking-and-analyzing-world-warcraft-performance/

That cave did nothing for me tbh. No changes at all. I already have MSI Afterburner running. I’ve never had any issues in game really, only in those rooms in EP.

Then it maybe something specific to that room/visual effect of an ability. If it was some transparency effect the cave would show it.

Does LFR Sivara give you similar problems? If so I could try to run few hardware configs on it - 1050 Ti and 1070 plus others. I did most of EP HC with Vega 64 and didn’t saw any problems (although without monitoring). HBM2 memory in some WoW edge cases is quite beneficial.

LFR has no issues, neither does any large number raids like BG or world bosses.
The problems are only in EP and some how increases with the difficulty.
LFR = No problems (ofc the rest isn’t open for testing yet)
Normal = Problems on Ashvane, and Azshara is impossible
Heroic = Big problems on Ashvane, Problems when Za’qul pops shield, and I can’t be taken to HC Azshara as everything comes to a stand still.
Mythic = FPS drop on Sivara, no problems on Radiance. Can’t get a spot for further progression as I’m a liability atm.

What’s your GPU load like? is it solid 99%? If not that would indicate a processor bottleneck.

I’m not majorly smart on computer things tbh, so I’m not entirely sure what you’re talking about or how to test it. I did however do a stress test on FurMark and on 3D mark both for about an hour and both scored high with no comments on performance. Tell me how to find what you’re asking about and I’ll go test it.

Wait, reading again, isn’t that what a stress test does ? Both of them had the GPU running at 99% and it barely made the fans go up. On one test I had Wow running in the background, 10 web pages open and didn’t even lag on team speak.
I also question how processor bottleneck would affect only 1 instance ??

well if your GPU load drops it means its not getting the data it needs fast enough and as a result your framerate drops. a bottleneck means your processor is not fast enough to provide the data your graphics card needs. you should download and install MSI Afterburner and monitor the GPU usage. if it drops below 99% and your framerate drops then its your processor not being fast enough. as for it only effecting one instance, the game is horribly coded i dont care what the devs say i can see it myself, i got an i9 9900K and even my gpu load drops in some places. the raids it happens quite often. i havent done the eternal palace but i wouldnt be surprised if it was super cpu intensive and causing a bottleneck.

You don’t need 9900K to do the raid. Not to mention that only few people posted problems here while way more runs the raid.

you didnt bother reading what i said did you? i literally said i was also having issues even with a 9900k.

I’ve already got Afterburner running, and point is, it’s only in EP, bad coding or not. My PC works perfectly in every other aspect of the game, and any other raid. I didn’t have a single problem in Uldir or BoD, just to mention newer content.

Problems for me is I can’t raid now, and as you mention you’ve even struggled with super hardware, so changing hardware might not even fix this for me. I think we all know that if Blizzard are willing to lose 10% of their players to boring content, they’ll not care much about our hardware or ability to play the game.

I’d love to try and monitor things in a raid, but it requires Mythic or late HC and that isn’t really something that we pug just yet, till then I’ll just not raid and see how long that’s enough fun.

Thanks anyway you lot. It’s really nice there’s still people out there willing to help fellow raiders

Arianatar and Bigkeg, here’s the benchmark result:

Overall this PC is performing above expectations (65th percentile). This means that out of 100 PCs with exactly the same components, 35 performed better. The overall PC percentile is the average of each of its individual components.

[Processor] With a brilliant single core score, this CPU is the business: It demolishes everyday tasks such as web browsing, office apps and audio/video playback. Despite its good score this processor isn’t appropriate for workstation use due to its relatively weak multi-core performance. Finally, with a gaming score of 82.9%, this CPUs suitability for 3D gaming is excellent.

[Graphics] 73.2% is a good 3D score. This GPU can handle the majority of recent games at high resolutions and ultra detail levels.

[Boot Drive] 124% is an exceptional SSD score. This drive is suitable for heavy workstation use, it will facilitate fast boots, responsive applications and allow for fast transfers of multi-gigabyte files.

[Memory] 16GB is enough RAM to run any version of Windows and it’s more than sufficient for nearly all games. 16GB also allows for very large file and system caches, software development and batch photo editing/processing.

[OS Version] Windows 10 is the most recent version of Windows, and the best to date in our opinion.

your not answering my question though, what is your GPU usage when your framerate is low, you can have the best graphics score on earth but if your getting a bottleneck its going to limit your framerate.

Sorry for not understanding entirely. I have to admit that when I was last on Ashvane and Za’qul HC I was battling the panic of not wanting to die while watching the fight as a slide show I didn’t get to check anything about the PC, and since it’s the only places I have trouble I’ll have to keep my fingers X-ed they’ll allow me in there with the team on Sunday to test it.

I have MSI Afterburner, however the overlay part using RTSS wont work with windows 10. (for me at least) Would you be so kind as to tell me exactly what I’m monitoring on Afterburner during those 2 bosses ? Much appreciated.

You can also run HWinfo in the background and log sensors for the fight. After that the log file can be analyzed - load, temperatures and what not.

So I just gotta set it up correctly and I wont have to monitor anything mid fight ? I think I might actually try that too, so in case I don’t find what I need on Afterburner during, I can check the log after. Thank you, I hope it’s possible to set up for a none pc person like me

Yes, when you run the sensors part of HwInfo you have the option (bottom right if I recall) to save the log - you do that before the problem starts and end somewhere after or during problems. Log as a text file can be shared.

https://www.hwinfo.com/forum/Thread-LogViewer-for-HWINFO-is-available this could be used as a viewer

Also running LatencyMon could be used if the system has problems or if it’s just the game: https://www.resplendence.com/latencymon - start it before, check during problems in WoW if the bars are high or low. Can be screenshoted quickly with windows+print screen combo when alt-tabbed from the game.

And there is more! You can run https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer to check what WoW.exe is doing with system resources. Has two tabs of statistics, can be screenshotted just like the previous app during problems.
