Free Realm Migration - NOW!

I’ve made a similar thread before which also had this ‘free realm migration’ theme as part of two themes. Now I’m deciding to make a second thread ONLY on free realm migration.

Blizzard needs to LISTEN. A lot of players, me included, have reserved a name on Shazzrah, then had to move to Firemaw to reserve a name which we did because Blizzard told us to. And at launch, we couldn’t even enter Firemaw and were forced to remake on Morgraine.

On Morgraine, we found our home and we leveled and leveled and most of us have reached level 10, level 20. Too high to even consider starting over. Yet, everytime we want to play we’re met with a huge queue that will take us several hours to get in. We can’t do anything else but sit in the queue, so we’re paying subscription for absolutely nothing because we can’t even access the ‘base version’ of the game while in the queue. Our time gets wasted, even when I can and will do other things while I’m in the queue, all I want is to play with my friends and catch up with them in terms of levels. I have this issue and so do many others.

I don’t want to unsubscribe ‘to make Blizzard listen’. I want them to listen and fix it. They need to make free realm migration available to lower population realms, so people can actually get off of the high pop servers and spread out over multiple servers. That way, queue times will be decreased massively and everyone will be spread out.

For the people concerned about ‘oh but what if the hype dies down and we are left with a lot of unpopulated servers oh my gosh’. Then Blizzard have the option to merge servers, like they have done before in the past. They can simply merge two servers of the same type together, and that’s that.

The point stands, this can’t keep on going. It’s been several days and queues have only lowered gradually depending on the time of day. Everyone wants to play with their friends, but can’t because one friend is in, another isn’t, people level ahead of each other and people can’t play in groups. I myself included, my friends all have reached level 30+, and I only managed to get to level 20 thus far because I happen to have huge queues everytime.

Even today, as I went to get something to eat and drink which I had postponed as long as I could, I was maybe afk for roughly 5-10 minutes, not longer. I even used my google chrome remote to stay in touch with people via battlenet instead of the mobile app on my phone in order to not go afk. And as I didn’t check my phone for a maybe 3-5 minutes out of that time, and checked back in I was simply kicked only to be faced with another 7k queue of players. So basically back where I started earlier today.

This is absolutely ridiculous. And I know I’m not the only one that feels that way or goes through the same issues. And of course, it might resemble very closely to what launch was like back in 2004. But I’m a paying customer, knowing what Blizzard is capable of for over 10 years now. So Blizzard, we all know you can do much and much better.

  • On a more positive note, I’d like to add that for the time that I’ve played Classic, it is worth the wait. It is absolutely great. I get enjoyment out of it. Being able to accomplish things that have seemed so easy in the base game but are so tough to achieve in classic and it’s genuinely fun. But in the end, I’m a paying customer that is paying for a product so I would say that Blizzard should do everything in their power to reduce the queues as much as possible.

If they continue to ignore us and release more and more new realms they simply don’t give a toss about the player base. What a surprise.

They can add the classic launch to their long list of failed launches.

Not going to happen I’m afraid.

They will not open up migration this early. If they did it would totally imbalance the target realm.

I understand the frustration, but I just can not see it happening.

I know they probably won’t read this but here’s to hoping.

I took a week off full time work and part time University for the first time in months to ‘get the gang back together’

In hindsight I should have known it would be bad, but I don’t want to start over after reaching lvl 24 and lvling 2 professions, I simply don’t have the time. Pleeeaaseee help us!

Who says that they even have the realm migration system in place? They weren’t even considering it until people were high level.

For all we know they could be working on it behind the scenes, and no amount of foot stamping will speed that process up.

I just wish Blizzard would say that’s what they are doing, if they are, to help stop the tidal wave of repetitive threads all saying the same thing.

For all we know they aren’t working on it and haven’t even thought about doing it.

becuse it is to early, none knows how many will continue to play in a month or so, meening if people now get a free migration, we might end up hearing about dead realms instead.

They have thought about it, as mentioned in the AMA.

If they weren’t already they certainty will be after seeing server numbers.

It feels like they’re playing musical chairs with 25 people, they put out 4 chairs, obviously there are many more people than chairs.
So as any normal company would, they do a quick headcount, they have 4 chairs and 25 people. “Ofcourse! there’s the problem, if we place out another 3 chairs all problems will be solved.”
But wait, it isn’t…there are still 25 people but only 7 chairs…surely another 2 chairs will be enough?
By this time the people who had been left standing for the past 5 days while Blizzard was busy learning basic math were growing impatient. But not to worry, Blizzard was already hard at work constructing one additional chair

Maybe, just maybe - you guys should either stop hoping for transfers and roll a fresh character NOW, while you are still not too far levelled…
OR you just wait 2 weeks until the interest inevitably dies and your server becomes full, but not as overpopulated.
There is enough servers at the moment. Why would Blizzard open a transfer to fix a problem that you stubbornly keep creating YOURSELF? Sometimes you have to stop waiting for a big Daddy to come and fix your problems and do the right thing yourself. You’re all committing a HUGE sunk cost fallacy.

Also maybe (just for your consideration) - next time when you get told that certain servers are overpopulated - don’t roll there and chose another one.

Sure. Speculating that it might imbalance the target realm, or that they didn’t plan on doing it until people are higher level is a fair point to make. But a lot of people are already level 40+. People are already rushing through the levels fast as it is because they have access to knowledge and / or play all day and stay up longer than they sleep.

And sure, they might be working on it. But we’re certain they have the possibility to have a system for free migration in place. Why? Classic is based off of a Legion client and the servers are based on Legion hardware. The entire system is based on Legion software. The only thing that’s the same as classic is the world itself. So they should have it ready and available.

And as noted in the main post, argueing that there might be dead realms is no solution. Realms can be merged if they turn out to be dead in the future. They have done so in the past, and they can do so again. But to limit players right now from playing the game while they are paying a subscription is absolutely ridiculous.

Also support. Open new servers. Open free transfers from full servers. When interest becomes lower open free transfers back. Announce this plan beforehand for everybody to be ready.

Before launch there was only 6 realm to choose from. 5 out of 6 where FULL and the last was an RP-PVE realm. I don’t want to play on an RP realm and certainly don’t want to play on a PVE realm. So you’re suggesting I pay for a service and have to opt for the least admirable realm because blizzard “shouldn’t need to come and fix the problems”

i can’t understand why there’s people defending blizzard.

You’re acting as dumb and uneducated as your post suggests, clearly. (Excuse me for saying the truth ).

As I stated in my post, people have already reached a certain level which took them hours to achieve. Some people, myself included, already have more then 25 hours in /played, have leveled professions up to a certain level, have already earned plenty of gold and have already leveled up to a certain level.

On top of that, I’ve already moved from 3 servers before landing on my current server which eventually ended up full again. By the time they started adding more servers, I already had reached level 17 and leveled my professions beyond the journeyman stage.

EDIT: Not to mention the fact that people want to play with their friends. I might not be as far in the game progression, but my friends might already be level 30, 40, 50. They ARE NOT going to abandon that level and move on to a new server to start fresh again.

These achievements might look absolutely silly if you look at it from a BfA perspective, but they aren’t in classic. These achievements take serious hours and time, and for a casual player that is a lot.

I can’t understand why there’re people who prefer to keep suffering, being denied the fun, and keep complaining instead of throwing away those few hours you’ve spent on your character and simply re-roll

Solve your problem yourself. You could do that on DAY 2, when it became obvious your realm is overcrowded.

How much more time do you wanna waste ina queue, waiting for someone else to fix it for you? 10 hours? 20 hours?
Is it worth it?

Maybe Blizzard will fix your problem - maybe they won’t, or do it too late. Right now you are committing a sunk cost fallacy and nothing more.

Switched servers 4 times

Shazzrah - Gehennas - Firemaw - Mograine

Problem just follows. If you have the time to keep doing that, great, but many of us don’t and actually want to play the game.

I absolutely get your point. And you might’ve been right under different circumstances. But your point DOES NOT apply on this situation. A lot of people already moved servers, 2, 3, 4 times. If not more, just to find an unpopulated server. Some people joined on launch day without issues when said server just got added, leveled in that single period of time to level 20, some never logged out and went directly to 30, 40. They didn’t sleep, they just kept on going for days on end and stayed logged in and made the time they had to invest in one single character they leveled hardcore.

Not saying that is the way to do it, because I take my time. But some people rush through those levels, especially when it’s groups of friends who can rush through the levels really fast by leveling or doing dungeons without issues.

Some people haven’t done that, like me. But still want to play with their friends, and those friends are already way too high level. Those friends aren’t going to reroll anymore. A free realm migration will solve so many issues, really fast. A lot of people can migrate, alongside their friends to another realm. People will spread out. You might create more queues on multiple servers but the queues will be smaller and only be 30 minutes to an hour rather than the now common 4-8 hour queues.

According a lot of resources, early in 2004 when World of Warcraft just launched, free realm migrations were actually VERY COMMON because of the unbalance and queues that occured on the overloaded servers. So I don’t get why they wouldn’t do it now on Classic as well.
