With SOD Phase 2 in full swing i gave it a try - the community are the same ppl playing WOTLK and/or Retail - everybody is after GearScore - and u only get into pugs with 6/6 exp
i do have the exp - but i dont like that mentality
Other than that - leveling was kind of fun
pvp too - the issue is - it is the kind of fun i had when i was jung and cheated in GTA2 to run Rampage in the city - its nice for a few sessions to be op and all that
but it gets old pretty quick, this is exactly how i feel about SoD

The Problem with era tho - due to bots we have hyper inflation - 20.000 Gold for Edgmaster ??? Realy ?
I realy would love the Idea to get Fresh Classic Era Realms - that dont allow transfer from other Era Realms
Content Phases would be nice - but are not needed .
What would be very nice, if Blizzard would finaly get rid of meele leeway and reduce SpellBatchting back to “normal 2024 standards”
i am certain - these fresh realms would have higher player numbers than any wow realm when they come out.
So lets up vote the Idea - make Vanilla (no i dont wanna sound like trump

Most realms are empty so it will not happen.

Splitting the Era community further wouldn’t be good for the game.
I’m not sure why you have such an issue with inflation anyways, 20k for Edgemasters is fine because everything else is inflated too. If everything you sell on the AH sells for 20x more and edgemasters also sells for 20x more the relative worth of edgemasters is still the same.

it isn’t this though? people are indeed selling things for at least fresh SoM levels in 2024.
also the “era community” is one medium pop server, i.e it barely exists and whatever split would be inconsequential if it gained only a slight amount of popularity.
Whats great in vanilla?
-spending tons of hours auto attacking to get max lvl
-1 button rotation with half the class spec’s not being optimized
-Auto attacking PVP with no arenas
-20year old content that we all did 1000times

Funny because i play Retail AND era. and as someone who plays both versions. retail is not nearly as bad as classic andys making it out to be. it’s just different from classic and that’s exactly the problem for classic players. (except shadowlands who let blizzard cook with this expansion???)

Dude I dont log retail since 2018. I highly doubt much had changed since every expansion was pretty same cope since TBC and played them all since TBC till BFA skipped legion.
Same stupid scalling every expansion.
Same stupid lowcharted arena setups.
Same rotations just different called abilities or they just swapped 3rd talent tree with some other similar classes and changed name of abilities/spells.
Everything got always somehow minmax exploited, pvp by lowchart meta setups, pve by gearcheck ilvl or whatever every expansion, preventing newcomers to easy get into game. I could continue.
Not even mentioning that retail will always have this comfortism of crying people who doesnt even play game just whine about stuff to be changed and when it change they whine about somehting else so in very end you end in game that none plays.
tho one thing Era doesnt have. Players of classic who come to retail section forums and post their crap there about retail copers. Seems unlikely retailers.
at least you played retail till 2018 most of the complainers just stopped at cataclysm and dare to complain about something they don’t understand. Not every retail expansion is the same quality wise. Pandaria and legion are the best retail expansions and by any means far away from being bad. they are just different… on the other side we have wod,bfa and shadowlands where i can see why they are bad. Dragonflight is solid imo but still not as good as pandaria or legion. Minmaxing the fun out of the game is a general problem you can see in every wow expansion(including wrath and sod even era but it’s tame here because the raids are easy)
only Pandaria was decent design still lots of broken stuff tho. I mean I have great memories on tbc and wotlk but not because expansion itself but because community of players.
I do pretty much can see difference where players make game great and when its game design.
Legion? I dunno they just always boosted every patch different class upong statistics what is played the least. But buffs were not quality changers just quatinty players forced to revive class population. That expansion started new precedens.
I didnt play but I did keep eye on about it. You may correct me but if I am wrong. But whatever.
If you even watch major streamers streaming wow expansions ever after BFA they dont really talk about cool pve or pvp mechanism just cool looking models and cool looking spells effects, cool looking whatever flying. What pretty much shows how that game lacks depth otherwise.
I can see the point about community. but i’m afraid it has little to do with the expansions itself it’s more a thing of the past. early wow might be wild where everyone was bad and didn’t knew things. No meta No minmax and all. the community is declining more and more. I started playing wow 2012 and the most of the fun memories i have lies between 2012-2017 with guilddramas funny random encounters of peoples and all. with sod in 2024 being the absolute worst in terms of gatekeeping and toxicity, the constant witch hunt of strong classes which isn’t their class. Even on era i have my own small groups of friends which is nice and all but everything else outside of it is just meh.
SOD is Classic for people that dont actually want to play Classic which is actually crazy imo
just play another expansion dude
