You see, the same was true for original Classic, SoM, SoD. They really thought about the date to release those games so that subscriber counts peak at the date they present their numbers to their shareholders. That’s really the only thing that matters for publicly traded companies like Activision Blizzard, which is part of Micro$oft now.
The masterpiece that is Vanilla WoW is in the hands of those people and is being milked for quick monetary gains. It must gain everything but it may not cost anything. This is why they dump us all on one megaserver because it’s too much effort to deal with multiple. This is why they code a dual spec implementation in 10 minutes and just dump it on there. This is why they cater to the screamers. This is why they don’t have real GM’s watching over the world but everything must be automated, why we are flooded with bots.
And it’s not gonna change. The only thing we can do is reject what they offer us. Let WoW, no, let Warcraft, no wait, let Blizzard simply die. Don’t give em a penny. In the end they will consider selling the company with it’s licenses and we can hope somebody with good intent will buy it.
It’s funny, Blizzard was always so independent, being able to fund everything by themselves. They literally died from their own succes. Personally I think it was Vanilla World of Warcraft that killed if for them. You see, the demand for the game was so extremely high, they needed servers, they needed craploads of them and they needed them fast. Those were not cheap machines, probably the best you could get during that time. So what they needed was money, fast money and lots of it. That’s where it went wrong. By taking those investments they had to give up their independency. It was choosing between having the game fail due to not being able to provide it to everyone that wanted it or giving out shares of their company.
It’s wow players own fault imo, they are basically crack addicts
I’m a returning players after about 12+ years and met many players that have never left (this terrifies me) , they have played every single expansion, wow literally defines them as a person.
Eat sleep wow repeat eh.
When you have a customer base that’s boarder line addicted to your product you can get away with about anything.
Look how the fanboys all ate up that $90 mount and thanked blizz for letting them purchase it
wow is just part of a “wealth generator” for shareholders to enjoy while the addicts in front of the screen say “thanks more please”
Lets face it, wow isn’t exactly bug free, any version, it aint no AAA product by any stretch of the imagination. Although many will say its the best game ever…its not exactly breaking any boundaries in terms of quality game play, most game mechanics are just designed to keep you playing longer/ as much of a time sink as they can make it.
wow is about delivering one thing to the shareholders
Old Bill didn’t buy it because he likes killing 20 boars in his spare time.
Except for the part about WoW not being a AAA product. I personally think Vanilla WoW (and yes, only Vanilla) is one of the most polished games ever made. Doing part of the leveling experience all over again on this Fresh server only confirmed that. I even dare to say the game get’s better and better everytime you play it again (if it wasn’t for the non-Vanilla stuff like overcrowded world).
In case you’re not convinced, there is a nice making-off movie on the DVD that came with the original collectors edition, you can probably find it on Youtube. Also, there is the book written by John Staats, ‘The WoW Diary’. This will provide some insight into what it took to make the game we all love and how Blizzard worked as a company in the good ol’ times.
Same for the second guy. At least the second guy has few valid points, but falls fast into conspiracy theories.
For you! SOD was a major dissapointment … for you! SOD is (very) successful. You can watch it by their numbers, while ERA is the worst from all WoW versions.
You are a pretty sad person, because if they were releasing Anniversary servers, fresh, without the changes you are so crying about, you would have defended the servers like a manianc.
If you believe that a horse “killed them”, then you kinda need to see a doctor.
Haha yeah the horse. That was the first clear sign of Activision involvement, already years after shareholders had begun peeling away at the company for control. Also, Starcraft II being split into 3 games during that time, being tethered to a server instead of a independent game you could launch.
Actually, the whole ‘listening to customers’ (listening to crybabies/screamers) thing that already came into existence during Vanilla’s runtime was the first sign of corporate/publicly-traded/shareholder-run type of company behaviour.
Before that, Blizzard just made games they wanted to make. People that liked them played them, people that didn’t like them avoided them.
No I would not. Same as with your prediction that I would play anniversary regardless, which I do not.
You need to do a better job at reading. I understand, as I have told you before, your need to bash people to feel good about yourself. But do the reading first because otherwise your brighter side is not showing.
