I was very doubtful at first about this SoD…
But thinking it over and reviewing the available runes so far makes this into something more similar to games like LoL, where the metas change every rebalance or rework a few times a year, making it feel fresh and interesting.
“Classic+” Andys who just want Phase 1-6 + 7,8,9 would complain over lack of content once they cleared the new zone and or raid…
In Sweden we have the saying “Mycket vill ha mer” roughly translated “Much wants more”, speaking of the people getting what they ask for never being satisfied.
This concept of SoD seems like a way to revitalize the entirety of Classic, rebalancing and reimagining the dungeons into raids, with new mechanics and content…
Like I said I had serious doubts, and I still have plenty, but I am also quite optimistic about what this COULD be, will be logging in on the 30th to create another rogue and have a good ol’ time.
Instead of recharging the Warrior meta every few years, they have flipped the script making classes that had ONE eligible duty on raids into multi-viable classes, mainly thinking of druids (healers) shamans (healers) priests (healers) paladins (healers), removing their meme-status on offspec builds.
Having for example a flex-tank meta would be very intriguing. Possibly having 4 flextanks in a raid with each having their superior area of expertise.
Rogues still only have the ability to tank 1-2 targets, possibly becoming the strongest heavy hitting boss tanks. While paladins and warlocks seems to have the aoe tanking priority, possibly also shamans with warriors remaining the best on average for filling all needs but not necessarily the strongest on any, remains to be seen.
TLDR;
*Serious doubts but high hopes.
*Completely different meta.
*Alot more new/changed content along the way.
*Shorter phases than vanilla.
