Frustration with Unbalanced PvP Mechanics

I have to say, I’m really looking forward to next week when we can hopefully play this game a bit more normally again. My main character tried to do a ZF run tonight, but as a level 47, I kept getting killed by large hordes of level 60 Horde players. And they also wait for you at the graveyard to kill you again the moment you ressurect. After being killed five times on my way from Gadgetzan to Zul’Farrak, and not even making it halfway, I gave up and logged out. I had an hour and a half before I needed to pick up my wife from work, and that entire time was spent corpse running. For me, this isn’t PvP, it’s a flawed mechanic. It feels like desperate people farming rather than engaging in real player-versus-player combat.

To be clear, I love PvP. I’ve played on PvP servers from 2005 all the way to 2014, and I’ve experienced the highs and lows of player combat. Vanilla WoW was never like this, apart from some memorable days of great fights near Tarren Mill. This phase destroyed servers and guilds back in 2019, though it lasted longer then. It’s disappointing to see what should be fun and challenging turn into an exercise in frustration

I have to disagree strongly with Saneko on this link. This isn’t world PvP, it’s a gank fest. If this phase had lasted longer than a week, the servers would likely have suffered just as they did in 2019. So many aspects of the game are nearly unplayable right now because of the ganking squads. I remember the game very well from 2004 to 2006, the real vanilla experience. I was on a PvP server back then and later moved to the first RP-PvP server when it was introduced in October 2005. I do remember some great world PvP during that time, but it was far more balanced and enjoyable compared to what we’re experiencing now. This current state is just plain frustrating. The developers should have released battlegrounds immediately. World PvP can always be organized - and is happening - , whether battlegrounds are available or not.

The only difference between Vanilla and Classic is the mentality of the players (we could also talk about the current Blizzard which is nothing more than an empty shell, a puppet controlled by money, but whatever) if the pvp of vanilla seems to us more Okay, it’s only due to this difference in toxic and selfish mentality. There were already players or guilds specializing in dirty ganking but they were a minority because at the time, the reputation of players on a server and forums was a tangible fact. Now to the toxicity of the modern player is added the impunity of layers and mega servers.

We players are just cash cows just good to be milked for money.

We only have the modern days player mentality and our own faction to blame
back then I remember the players having a certain sense of “union” inside their own faction, so if a group of hordies was ganking somewhere, a squad of Allys would group up to counter-gank
now, if you use any public chat to broadcast that you’re being ganked by 3+ hordes, you’re met with indiference or straight up mocking, “skill issue” etc
the player’s skill might have increased when compared to back in the day but the toxicity levels and the number of maladjusted players has increased (maybe it didn’t increase, maybe they never left and the good people moved on with their lives)

I have to disagree… IMO the only thing that´s really changed is where it´s happening, because people now avoid the classic places like Stranglethorn when they can. So as a direct result the gankers merely reposition themselves to where they´ll find easy prey…GZ → ZF, Sentinel → DM, UC → SM,etc.

“World PvP” was almost never objectively"fair" and never has been, it´s always mostly been higher ups thrashing lowbies simply because they can.

this game is full golums(LotR) who never had a girlfriend since 2004 to 2025 and lived in Pservers, so their only pleasure is to make this game a nightmare for those who got/had a life

Welcome to the pvp classic experience just with gen z players who have all the advantage of knowing all the tricks and having payed for their gear with RMT and read all the guides others took 5 years to figure out so they can gank other low level players for fun.
Its kinda not the games fault but indirectly only the game can improve and change it.
Toxic pvpers will always exist no matter what game.

5 Corpse runs to get into BRD. Mainly level 60 rogues “pvping” funny how they were only targeting players below 60 but whatever.

Ohhh well, won’t see these lowlifes in arena when TBC comes out.

Are PVP Servers to hard for you → Start on PVE :person_shrugging:

You received two warnings while creating your character on the PVP server.

I don’t think anyone is suggesting PVP servers are “too hard”, most actual pvpers enjoy a challenge.

What we are seeing here isn’t PVP though, it’s griefing. There is no reason why a raid group of level 60s need to sit on Flight paths or camp outside an instance portal in levelling zones rez camping with no counter play.

Unfortunately, this is a community issue and many classic players have no honor or shame.

If you sincerely think PVP is about greifing lower levels you are as cringe as those doing it.

PvP not about balance, PvP always unfair and thats okay.
You have PVE server, tired of repeat

It’s a war between the factions. It’s not seen as grieving by blizzard. It’s a war and killing eachother is allowed. Be it near a flight master or at a graveyard. They do have PvE servers for the ones who find it annoying and don’t like to take part of it.

The forum will never agree on this, but it’s clear that Phase 2 was extremely unhealthy for Classic in 2019. So many players left or eventually transferred to PvE servers that the remaining PvP servers ended up being mono-faction. Every PvP server from 2019 is mono-faction today. That never happened in Vanilla WoW.

The problem is that players today are so min-max focused that they use the “PvP excuse” to grief and create ganking squads, making it impossible or at least far harder to progress after Phase 2 for anyone who wasn’t already level 60. It wasn’t like that in Phase 1, and it was still a PvP server then, wasn’t it?

I also don’t agree with blizzard. But it is what it is.

Now imagine this for classes that dont have a 20 sec cd stun break and double ice block. Yep. You’re spending your life in CC by a rogue because Cheap and Kidney Shot are on a different DR.

No one is asking for perfect balance. 3 rogues killing level 40s at a flight master is degenerate and is not PVP.

Maybe you do this? is that why you are defending crappy behaviour?

Criticisms of a bad system that encourages griefing low levels doesn’t imply unwillingness to PVP. Grow up and get out of your echo chamber.

War between factions and group killing is great, but the same level 60s spam killing a single levelling players is cringe, you cant dispute that.

But this is down to the morals of the player.

I just wonder how many “PVPers” we will see in the arena, where you cant hide in 10 man ganks.

I don’t dispute that. But blizzard thinks it’s alright. And people know blizzard thinks it’s alright.

I just think it’s fun to read the posts where people complain

Just because there isn’t a specific rule against something doesn’t mean its alright. It most likely will never happen, but the community should clean itself up and fight honorable battles rather than petty ganking.

Sounds mildly sadistic but you do you.

sadly this week turned hell for lvl 50 +
for your own sanity just skip playing until bgs
