Classic ninja rule change by Blizzard. Wonder how many people will get his with this.
Bad change IMO. They better add wow token to anniversary now then unless they want to support more gold buying from illegal gold sellers…
I find it mostly ridiculous that they banned this rather than boosts
This is obviously a preparation for WoW Token.
Which won’t reduce amount of gold buyers. Illegal gold selling works in retail just fine, they just keep prices under WoW Token. Quite the opposite: people who want to buy gold, but afraid to break the rules, now will buy tokens. Which will further fuel the inflation.
But at least Blizzard will get the cut from this activity and, hopefully, will dedicate more resources for development this mode.
That made my day!
I don’t think it’s a precursor to a token in era. Maybe anniversary but even that’s a squeeze of a maybe.
I think this is a first step in a bigger crack down on illicit gold movements.
GDKP, gone
Gold swaps, gone
Like most things they have to move in smaller incremental steps.
I guess so too. But how will they uphold the rule?
I already see (and report) same players spamming boosts in LFG channel every single day. some lvl 1’s, some 60’ and some one in between.
Blizzard simply don’t care - so why should they care for this new rule?
Report them, they only react when people are reported enough. You dont see much of that spam on the pve server and thats only because people keep getting reported for it.
I might be wrong but boosting isn’t against rules?
Advertising in lfg sure, but I think you’re allowed to boost and as it uses the in game trade window it’ll be fine under this new rule clarification.
Boosting is legal, but you can only advertise it in “Services” global channel. In any other channel it’s considered spam and with enough reports should lead to an account silence.
I think this also. With the new prominent shop bar and all. Wouldn’t be at all surprised if we get the token alongside the lvl 60 boost in TBC prepatch, if not sooner.
Which is ironic, since the only point in wow I would consider buying gold is for AQ/Naxx progression consumes. In TBC and onward you can just do dailies for consume gold.
I think this change is alright - it doesn’t affect me in any way as this is not a practice I participate in, and the arguments are also sound.
Seen together with the fact they just added a new SHOP button atop the login screen, I would guess this is done in preparation for adding the WoW token to anniversary realms. While I do not play anniversary, I think in-game purchases/officially supported and encouraged pay2win has no place in classic WoW. But then I guess as TBC approaches there’s also going to be boosts for sale etc.
Oh well, as long as they don’t touch era, I’m content.
Don’t be surprised if the shop button exists purely due to a copy pasta of the retail XML for the top bar.
There has been access to a shop interface for a long time in classic, my guess is the Lua functions exists for it all, there just isn’t any data to populate the shop items.
Before the bar came along you could open the shop and just see a blank UI
THen you’re not content - as I am not - the ugly Shop bar is in Classic Era as well.
To be fair, it’s not ugly and it’s not specifically or solely for the shop.
It also allows you to swap which game version you want to play, and yes some folks play more than one version.
As I mentioned though, they’ve just pasted the code for it which is why it shows menus that go to nothing.
Era won’t be touched, unless the community themselves push things to the cliff edge with our of game nonsense.
So it’s kinda on the players to keep era as era.
I find it totally ugly, and it goes over my horns!!!
They could have put in a swap button above the SHOP one.
